Queens of the Stone Age Background

Queens of the Stone Age got its start in 1996 in Palm Desert, California. Originally, the band called itself Gamma Ray. However, a German metal group already had this name, so Queens of the Stone Age was born. This name came from the nickname of Josh Homme's previous band, Kyuss. The band's musical style is influenced by many rock and metal genres, with macho and German rock styles commonly attributed to it. Later albums incorporate electronic and dance music influences. Queens of the Stone Age had their first concert in Seattle, Washington at the OK Hotel on November 20, 1997. Once they released their self-titled album Queens of the Stone Age, they started touring in 1998. They had their big break when they released their second album, Rated R, in 2000 and got the opportunity to open for Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins and other high-profile bands. An invite for Ozzfest 2000 came shortly after.

    A Show Most Excellent

by The Ron on 5/9/24Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion - Portsmouth

Absolutely the best rock show I’ve been to in a good long time. That you to Josh & Co for brightening our day on what could have been a gloomy night. Thanks to the staff for making the audience experience stress and pain free. Cannot say enough good things about QOTSA and the show they put on. Really hit the heart with the loud and heavy sound in all the right ways.

Queens of the Stone Age rock Red Hat

by Mary from Cary on 5/6/24Red Hat Amphitheater - Raleigh

Queens of the Stone Age rocked Red Hat on Thursday, May 2. Josh kept apologizing for canceling their show last year., which was unnecessary. They put on an amazing show in all respects: musically, the band are talented musicians, the light show was perfect, the set list was great and Josh’s chatter was entertaining. I’ve seen some excellent concerts this year but this has to be one of the best shows to date. Queens of the Stone Age set the bar very high for other bands to follow.
