About

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

One of the hottest bands in the land at one of the premiere east coast indoor venues. What a night! Easy and smooth.

Great band - Could use something more...

by BP on 5/26/24The Met Presented by Highmark - Philadelphia

I really like Kruangbin and their music. They are super solid live and they sound great. After awhile though I got a little bored. I think they could use visuals that go along with their music (like an led wall or projectors) since they're mainly instrumental. The windows on their set are cool but they could use something a little more.

    First timer

by Jam girl on 5/25/24The Met Presented by Highmark - Philadelphia

First time seeing them. It was a great show, very mellow but still kept you moving. I was worried when Leezy almost collapsed on stage and briefly went backstage but she recovered quickly and came back hotter than before.

    Let Down

by choll on 5/24/24The Met Presented by Highmark - Philadelphia

When I saw this was a 3-night run (05/21/24-05/23/24 in Philadelphia, PA), I expected something unique. Unfortunately, the whole thing was low energy with zero personalization to the crowd. Having seen this band in a festival setting where it was nonstop jamming and covers mixed in, I was pretty disappointed especially given the price tag of the ticket. Sound was good, no missed notes, vocals were mixed poorly though but it didn't matter since they hardly touched the mics (to be fair, not many vocals in their songs anyway). If you're on the fence, I'd pass on this tour. Stage design was too big for 3 people, the lights behind the backdrop were BLINDING from the Mezz/Loge area, and it felt like you could've put anyone up there to do their jobs and the crowd wouldn't have known the difference. Whoever advised them on the stage design and set order did them a massive disservice. This is all coming from someone who actually liked their new album too.
