About

Pretty Lights is a musical project known for a unique fusion of electronic beats, poetic samples, modular synthesizers, and live musicians. Intricate sonic tapestries combined with dynamic breathing light shows transport listeners to cosmic planes, seamlessly blending the past and future into a rich present moment.

After a five-year hiatus, Pretty Lights is back with a newly constructed inter-dimensional soundship spacesystem. This frequency powered vehicle is designed to facilitate improvisational and expressive performances between himself and other artists across musical and visual mediums. The live show network allows for real-time data and control signals to be shared, creating a connected space for experimentation and creativity.

Dubtronic hiphop techno futurepast soul, audiovisual spectrally driven lightshows, non-timecoded fully generative visual systems, interconnected data networks linking performers across mediums, and loads of new live music are just some of the ways Smith has described the upcoming shows.

"This tour is all about exploring the creativity that blossoms when the vibes are high and the energies are harmonized. I've spent the last 5 years experimenting, recharging, and building with the humans who will join me on these shows in order to create a crew and show where not even the sky is the limit. PL feels new again and ready to be shared with fans." - Derek Vincent Smith

    Memories for life

    by D. S. on 4/12/23

Just came here to give PL a nice lil nudge 😃 Been to 30+ shows since 2010 and fell in love with my wife though PL's music and the journeys chasing the highs his shows have always given us. Watching the project grow, ebb and flow over the years has been an absolute pleasure and I can't wait for the shows later this year! Futuristic-vintage-electro-funk-hiphop-ish with insane visuals and unique set lists for every nearly every show.

    Pretty Lights EPIC

by Huntersmumzie on 8/23/17Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island - Chicago

I bought a tix for Pretty Lights because my son films for the band. He gave me a tour pass. The entire night was first class, from the security to the fans. I'm marking my calander for next year. BTW I am 50 years old and really enjoyed all the music.

Best PL set I've ever seen

by NickkkiRae on 8/23/17Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island - Chicago

The show was incredible. I'll never forget it. I'm still on a high. The energy and vibes were magical. I will never miss Derek when he's in Chicago. Exodus ft. The Soul Rebels... Opening up with Hot Like Sauce night 2... More Important Than Michael Jordan... Chicago Bulls Intro... ugh. I couldn't have asked for a better setlist either night. *CON: the drink prices are ridiculously high. I highly recommend packing a cooler, parking in the VIP parking lot, and walking over to the lakefront before entering a show to pregame. It'd also be cool if we didn't have to take off our shoes at security but other than that the venue was good and there isn't a bad viewing spot.

    BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE

by Pipipipipipipi on 8/22/17Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island - Chicago

Decided the day before to fly from New York for this concert and I seriously could not be happier with my decision. The venue, the people, and most of all THE MUSIC was so on point. Security was extremely stiff but at least friendly, but be careful kids. All in all, highly highly recommend.

One of the most amazing shows I have ever been to. Pretty Lights continues to provide a wonderful experience filled with live music, deep cuts, and one of the best light shows of any artist. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

    Warning would've been nice

by TheresNoMoreNicknamesLeft on 9/9/16Reno Events Center - Reno

I'm not into Edm what so ever but I saw that Lil Uzi Vert was playing and he's easily one of my top 5 favorite artists. So $100 for 2 tickets was worth it to me. I sat through 2 hours of music and once lil uzi was supposed to come up the dj said "lil uzi couldn't make it tonight" Don't you think that a Facebook or Instagram post to let people know that they aren't going get what they paid for would've been a good gesture? I saw constant adds leading up to the concert saying "lil uzi vert live in Reno" but nothing letting me know that he wasn't going to make it. Not even a warning when I got there? I don't think it's too much for me to ask for a refund. Hope to hear a word back.

The environment was horrible and one of their openers didn't even show up which was the biggest thing next to Pretty Lights

    Light's Strike!

by RxLark on 9/9/16Reno Events Center - Reno

Being my first PL experience, I had no idea what I was in for. From that first bass strike like a fist to your chest, to the turntable's fine rub and spin, my body was rocked. The lights were mesmerizing. Seriously, the choreography of the bulbs was sensuous, palpitating, and earned rank with the band's name.
