Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Live in Concert

Jason Isbell was born into a musical family in Green Hill, Alabama, in 1979. His grandfather and uncle taught him to play various musical instruments, and the young musician started playing the mandolin when he was just 6. Destined for a life in the spotlight, he joined the Drive-By Truckers in 2001 at the age of 22. Isbell was a member of the Drive-By Truckers for six years before cutting out for a solo career. He released his first solo album, Sirens of the Ditch, in 2007. Some of his most notable work began when he assembled a group of musicians that would become known as The 400 Unit. The group consists of Sadler Vaden  of Drivin' N Cryin' on guitar, Jimbo Hart on bass, Derry deBorja on keyboards and accordion, Chad Gamble on drums and Isbell's wife Amanda Shires on fiddle. The 400 Unit is playfully named after the psychiatric ward of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama. Isbell and the band's first collaboration resulted in the release of the self-titled album Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit in 2009. In 2011, the collaboration continued with the release of Here We Rest. The track "Alabama Pines" was named Song of the Year at the 2012 Americana Music Awards. The Nashville Sound was released in 2017, winning the Grammy Award for Best Americana Album, with Isbell winning an additional Grammy Award for Best American Roots Song. In 2020, the group released Reunions, with the song "Be Afraid" hitting No. 5 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart. During the November 2020 election, Isbell announced he would make a charity album if Joe Biden won the state of Georgia. When this came to pass, Isbell worked to release the cover album Georgia Blue the following year. The album was a collaboration by various artists, and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit contributed a cover of the Metallica song "Sad But True." Isbell has won four Grammy Awards between 2001 and 2007.

    Always a great show

by DanielD on 10/17/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

As a multiple-time attendee to Jason’s shows, I always look forward to seeing him. My only wish is that he played more of the Weathervanes album. “White Beretta” and “If You Insist” specifically. It is the 10 year anniversary of Southeastern, and he played many from that album. Although I love these songs, I have heard them live several times.

    Terrible food Service and Venue

by JWII on 10/16/23Radians Amphitheater - Memphis

Spent most of the event waiting for food and drink that never came. They kept running out of components of the ordered meal and then asking if okay with out it. They even laughed about it. They said if you stepped away would give your food away. 75 min wait for one cascadia at 28 $. Ruined the event for my wife and I. We couldn’t even spend it together because had to wait in line and stay with out camp chairs/blanket.

    Best Isbell show I’ve seen

by Mad Jack on 10/11/23Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium - Chattanooga

Jason was fired up, interactive with the crowd and was helped by Slader Vaden from DaC on guitar. As part of the encore did a jam of Melissa that was epic. Show ran :30 minutes long in a union hall and everyone got what they came for.
