About

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

    Insanely talented and ultra groovy

    by Alana Stewart on 9/27/22

This was my first time seeing Khruangbin after hearing sooo much about their live performances and they did not disappoint. Their transitions are flawless and each song selection whether it is an original or a cover keeps the crowd grooving. I was entranced by their performance and will be back to see them again and again no doubt! If you are on the fence GO GO GO!

    awesome as always...

by Aceface on 9/27/22Germania Insurance Amphitheater - Austin

...this was the first time I've seen Khruangbin in a large outdoor venue and although their performance was tops all the way through, I didn't quite feel the intimacy of their performance as I have with indoor venues. Love them and their music! Long live the Khru!

Seeing this band live was like being transported!

by D. W. on 8/10/22BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

My husband and I have been obsessed with this band for 3 years. It was such an honor to witness them in all of their glory LIVE for the very first time. I felt like I had been transported to another place and time. I cannot wait to experience them again! Highly recommend. You will not regret it!

It was a magical night and I would definitel do it all again

by Audrey on 8/9/22Thompson's Point - Portland

The music, the lights, the Thompson Point venue, it was all top notch and well organized. They even had the trash and free water situation on lock.

    That was an incredible show

by Cell on 8/9/22Thompson's Point - Portland

The whole scene there is wonderful except that drinks for minors are very slim

    Amazing show.... long, slow line

by mikropolis on 8/9/22Thompson's Point - Portland

It would have been nice to catch the opening act. We were there early enough but once we located the end of the snaking line it became clear that we would not get a glimpse of Men We Trust. We could hear them from a distance. By the time we were admitted they were done and long gone. Don't get me wrong-- LOVE Thompson's Point as a venue but the logistics of funneling thousands of concert goers in a timely manner need work. Khruangbin kicked a$$.

    Thompson’s Point, Portland, ME

by Guan on 8/8/22Thompson's Point - Portland

Unreal weather at an amazing outdoor venue. The build up of their set, the unexpected hiphop/r&b medley of some of my favorite stuff from grade school and jr high was incredible!!! The intro, the vibe, the message. Go see them!

    We Were Flying!

by Renee Matt Debban on 8/8/22Thompson's Point - Portland

Wonderful concert by Khruangbin! The band's name means airplane or flying engine, and it was totally apropos, because the venue (Thompson's Point in Portland, ME) was close enough to the local airport for us to see planes taking flight during the show. Needless to say, we were all flying! Anyway, the lights and sounds were something else. Khruangbin is kind of hard to pigeon-hole genre-wise, but easy to listen and dance to. Think funk, jazz, psychedelia, hip-hop, rock and roll, new wave, pop, and crazy good guitar, drumming, and bass. It's sort of like yacht rock, but it actually rocks (and rolls). Plus, they exude some sort of weirdly cool simultaneously retro and ultra-modern vibe. This is the third room... Yes!

    So Dope!

Best concert I’ve been to in a minute! Two of my favorite bands at a nice venue, with a great crowd. East entry, parking, and experience! Men I Trust and Khruangbin kill it

    Venue was too small

by P on 8/8/22BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

The venue was wayyy too small for such a big band like Khruangbin. Not worth the $75. It sucks because they’re one of my favorite bands and it could have been more enjoyable if there was actually room for people to dance. Everyone was packed in this section at the park like sardines.

    What an experience

by Nikki on 8/8/22BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

Honestly, the opener, the band, the vibes, the music, the food - A+, especially for the price listed! I really, really loved how there was lightening in the background as Khraungbin played, truly creating an unforgettable experience. You would be foolish to not go see them live!

    Oversold

by I on 8/7/22BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

The event was oversold - it was very difficult to get a drink, or walk anywhere. It’s irresponsible to fill the venue up like that.

    Not long enough

by Grace on 8/7/22BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

We pulled up to an intimate outdoor venue where the band had already set the good vibes. Khruangbin knows how to pull together a crowd of welcoming and happy fans who just want to have a good time. Don’t miss out on them.
