John B came on twenty minutes late in a standing venue. Also, he didn’t introduce his band. Back up singer did that. I would have loved to have seen him interact with the crowd more on stage via dialogue and not wander through the audience similar to what Buddy Guy use to do at Jazzfest in NOLA.
I’m not sure if he was having an off night but I was underwhelmed by the performance. I would not go out of my way to ever see him again live. Would rather see Trombone Shorty, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, any member of the Marsalis or Neville family perform given what I saw of John B in Charlotte NC .
Also, the venue, The Fillmore in Charlotte, did a below average job in handling early entry passholders. We received an email the day of the show to arrive at 6:00. We had to stand in rain for 45 minutes before we were let inside. Supposedly, the meet and greet inside was taking longer than expected. There were about thirty of us in the line. I think the Fillmore could have easily let us inside and just had us stand in a separate area from the meet and greet passholders. They had plenty of staff, three at one point just standing in front of the door outside with us. It was odd. We also weren’t allowed to have umbrellas in that line.
