DENZEL CURRY IN CONCERT:
It's been a busy few years for Denzel Curry. Since 2013 the rising rapper has released two albums and a double EP, garnered shout-outs from Earl Sweatshirt and the Odd Future crew, and graced the cover of XXL as a member of the hallowed hip hop mag's coveted 2016 Freshman Class. The buzz is well-deserved – Curry's hard-nosed lyrics and aggressive flow have been likened to Tupac Shakur, and he makes good on the comparison at his uncompromising live shows with plenty of swagger and attitude. Taking the stage in stylish streetwear rocking a head full of tight-knit dreads, Curry gets crowds bouncing with bass-heavy bangers like "Threatz" and "Ultimate." His dense verses and trap-inspired beats hit extra hard, and ticket buyers just can't get enough of the raucous party he brings to stage.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Carol City, FL-born Denzel Curry started writing poetry in elementary school before moving on to rapping in the sixth grade. He cut his teeth participating in rap battles at the local Boys & Girls Club, and by the time he was in high school he was already working on his debut album. Following a trio of mixtapes released in the early '10s, Curry put the finishing touches on his long-incubated full-length debut, 2013's Nostalgia 64. The record was an underground hit, earning praise from critics and drawing Curry out for extensive touring, stopping at the likes of The Fillmore in Philadelphia. He followed up in 2015 with the double EP 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms, and in 2016 he dropped his highly anticipated sophomore LP Imperial. The album featured guest appearances from big guns like Rick Ross and Joey Badass, cementing Curry's place among hip hop's top brass and drumming up major excitement for his next round on the road.
I took my son because he’s a fan, and I can say the show was more than I expected. The vibe was cool and the artists were amazing!
Not my first time seeing Denzel Curry but he always brings the same energy and passion to every show. Opening acts were great and venue is always fantastic.
Denzel gave Palace Theater in St. Paul MN an insane show and his openers got us all hyped up. The crowd was amazing and everyone had a great time
Had an amazing time. Don't think I'll have that much fun for a while. Wasn't a single boring act, everyone was great. Hope this group tours again
The pit was absolutely amazing. All the openers and Denzel knew how to keep the crowd going. I will definitely be at the next show in stl.
I was near the front and the security guy was very nice and always making sure everyone was okay and had water. Denzel Curry did a great job as well as the openers like redveil, Dinero, PlayThatBoiZah, and AG Club.
had about 5-6 opening acts and denzel did an hour set but i gotta say this was the best show i ever been to. was at the barricade all night and the energy was so high all night
Loved all the opening acts. Playthatboizay and Redveil both brought amazing energy and great stage presence. AG Club were so hype you would have thought the crowd was there for them. Denzel did a mix of songs from the new album as well as classics from previous albums. He spoke to the crowd a lot during the performance too.
My husband took our 19-year-old son as a birthday present. This was his first concert and he has been following Denzel since middle school. Denzel gave an excellent performance--Our son did the mosh pit for the first time and he came home with his clothes soaked and he even lost his voice. the only thing they didn't like was the 10 people he had open for him --they should definitely cut down those performances. Every time Denzel comes back to Charlotte my guys will be there!
Denzel Curry was hella hype. I have been to better shows though. What could of made my experience better was if the venue wasn’t a ‘cash only’ venue as far as purchasing food and merch goes. I also wish the ballroom had seats available to buy tickets to sit in like other pavillions/factories/lounges etc. do
was really shocked that a show that started at 8pm, with 3+ openers, ended at 11:07pm and that was AFTER the crowd BEGGED for an encore. the main headliner should have performed for more than an hour. we all came for denzel curry, and would’ve really appreciated a little longer than an hour on the dot performance. this is new orleans, and the venue kicked us out an hour before MIDNIGHT.
Coming from watching the melt my eyes tour on YouTube prior to coming to the show. I had expectations. I feel like maybe the artist really did not like the venue, because it was very not much packed in the general admission area. Denzel curry did not finish his set. We missed out on the 2nd half of the melt my eyes album. Claims to finish his set when he comes back with kid cudi. Denzel, although I was upset with this concert. I still will support you in following your dreams. I just feel like you should give houston better next time.
Denzel Rocked. The entire show had me moving and dancing. Bobbing my head and waving my hands. First time seeing him but won’t be my last. Red veil was great as well looking forward to seeing him again too. The show was great. All the artists did an amazing performance.
Denzel was exceptionally engaging and fun and the house of blues was a great venue as always. Crowd energy was amazing and it was crazy to see him back in Florida.
Denzel, Redveil, and all the other performing artists absolutely killed that show! I was in the moshpit for the first 3 hours of the concert and I've never felt a room become so alive.
So there were supposed to be 4 openers redveil, playthatboizay, skiifall, and kenny mason. And kenny mason never came on. Then again there was a surprise appearance by 454. Anyways redveil and playthatboizay were awesome and i would go again just to see them. BUT skiifall sucked so much he literally killed the room and he was the longest opener literally twice as long as everyone else. But what i actually paid for was Denzel Curry and he absolutely killed it and i can’t wait for him to come back to town so i can go again, he put on such a high energy fun show i’ll be talking about for years.
awesome energy, picked great songs to perform, was great with the crowd and genuinely seemed like he was having a great time. saw him back in 2018 which was fun but the whole production was even better this time around and seemed to really take his performance seriously. Proud fan! Thanks for a great time Denzel- see you next time
Good show. It was too much bass in my opinion but other than that, I want to see him again and the guests he brought were cool. Redveil + Playthatboizay
I had a phenomenal time. & i bought merch. I was moshing with a bunch of sweaty white people & i loved it.
ATL had so much energy and Denzel made it so hype great concert
