ALVVAYS IN CONCERT:
Canadian indie pop outfit Alvvays made big moves in 2014, releasing their self-titled debut album to heaps of critical acclaim and a No. 1 spot on the US college charts before hitting the road on a highly anticipated tour. The band's live shows picked up where the album left off, featuring the wry, honest vocals of frontwoman Molly Rankin atop a gauzy wash of distorted guitar, jangly percussion, and vintage synth riffs. Rankin's unaffected voice is an ideal vessel, allowing her conflicted lyrics -- mundane and full of wonder in turns -- to really shine on songs like "Adult Diversion" and "Archie, Marry Me". A rising young act with big things on the horizon, Alvvays has fans eager to experience their nostalgic, fuzzed-out live shows on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Alvvays formed in Toronto in 2012 around the music of Molly Rankin, a budding singer-songwriter who had previously released a solo EP in 2010. Shortly after that solo outing Rankin teamed up with childhood friend Kerri MacLellan (keyboards) and high school buddy Alec O'Hanley (guitar), and with the addition of bassist Brian "Ginger" Murphy and drummer Phil MacIsaac they became Alvvays. The group spent a couple years honing their sound and building a fanbase with regional shows, and in 2014 they released their self-titled debut album. The record was a success, topping the US college charts and earning praise from critics including Stereogum, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. The group made good on their growing reputation, delivering a string of powerful performances on their first headlining tour. Alvvays continues to deliver their high-energy indie sound to enthusiastic ticket buyers across the country, building anticipation for their highly anticipated sophomore album.
Over the course of their career, Alvvays have played venues such as The Depot, the Fillmore, and the Observatory North Park to capacity.
the show is great. I liked them a lot. the stocky bar tender had a hot face. the kind of girl face with redeem quality. this iss a perfect score. but comes with a warning. when things sound this prrfkt you might not appreciate the new songs as much as the hits.
I Love the band, the y sounded just ethereal live.
Third time seeing Alvvays and the second time at The Knitting Factory. LOVE Alvvays and LOVE LOVE Molly. The Knitting Factory is a chill venue, though it is acoustically-challenged. The Beths, from New Zealand, were a great choice as openers and Beth’s voice is dreamy! I will Alvvays travel to see “Alvvays” anywhere near Oregon (wish they would play at Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, where I work)!
This was my 4th time seeing Alvvays, second time at The Fox in Oakland. I last saw them 2 years ago, was blown away, and they were even better this time.
Seeing Alvvays for the 2nd time and theyre undeniably one of the best bands of this generation. Truly a blessing to live at the same time as their music.
How do they sound so good live??? Amazing. And super cool visuals to go with were very fun to watch and added a lot to the performance
So glad The Beths came to town. They put on an awesome show. They were the opener for Alvvays, who had a decent light show but the music was boring. Actually worked out well because we could get home nice and early.
Every song is a hit! Just straight up good song smithing. The Beth’s rocked the house as well. Will go see again.

Perfect venue for a great band. They're my favorite band and they sound amazing live. Hopefully they're back soon again.
