  • A blast, as usual!

by CM Fan on 3/23/25The Atlantis - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was at the tiny Atlantic club in D.C. The stage is elevated higher than is typical, which provided better visibility, at the expense of making the band seem a little more remote from the crowd than usual. I had just seen Confidence Man at their midnight showcase set at SXSW. This show wasn't quite as good as that one (which was a happening!), but it was still thrilling. However, I did miss having a live drummer, which they did the first time I saw Confidence Man opening for Sofi Tukker last year. The drums just add an element of excitement that pre-recorded tracks are lacking. But CM still brought their dance club vibe in spades, and Janet & Sugar offer plenty of visual spectacle. You can't go wrong at a Confidence Man show!

  • A Confident Show and a Killer Venue

    by Kyle P on 12/6/23Echoplex - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Was absolutely stoked to see one of my favorite bands of all time making a rare appearance in the US, thought I was a bit anxious about the venue having never been there before and frankly being a bit of a square myself. The Echoplex is a great place to see a show, though! Intimate enough to get up close to the band but spacious enough that you can hang back of even grab a seat to take a break from the crowd. Some seating off to the sides even has a pretty good eyeline to the stage. The opening act, Blake the Man 1000 gave the impression of being a regular act for the joint. While his sound wasn't exactly my cup of tea, a good amount of the crowd was really getting into it and the lighting crew didn't skimp on making the opening act feel like a headliner. Plus the two man group had a very fun indie performer and hype man meta performance going one that was memorable and enjoyable to me. There was unfortunately a gap of a full half hour before the opener and the main act, and I am not totally sure why, but it was worth every moment of the wait! I hadn't had a chance to see Confidence Man perform live before, but I had seen some footage online and I knew they pull out all the stops while performing, but it is a transcendent experience to see in person. They sing live while dancing non-stop and they go hard! Their full set was just one hour but it felt like it lasted all night in the best way possible. The front man and front woman duo only paused twice during the show to change costumes (including their iconic light up shoulder pads and conical bra, respectively). All the while their backup band kept the crowd hyped with instrumentals the whole time. If you're a fellow lover of dance music who isn't necessarily stoked to get out of the house for a DJ set, I couldn't recommend Confidence Man more highly. You buy a ticket for a concert but what you get is the Party of the Year (if not a lifetime)!
