Andre 3000 takeaways:
Line around the building. The no cell phone policy was the reason.
✨I wore an old-school watch to know how long this jam session would last (90+ minutes).
✨The LOUD was loud outside the building! I almost said touch your neighbor if you feel IT, or got five on it!
✨The music was a vibe; it was dark and hazy inside a small venue. My seat was on the floor. In one leap, I could have grabbed his hat. Believe it or not, I did not miss my phone. It felt good being in the musical moment.
✨The music was impromptu. It was like eavesdropping on a jam session. You could hear the kinks being worked out and the beautiful creations being made note by note all at once. Sometimes, it was like a child practicing whole notes on a plastic recorder, but for the most part, it was smooth and spontaneous as the rapper turned flutist delivered a fantastic show.
✨He had a goodie bag filled with musical gadgets: bells, wind chimes, pieces of other instruments, one gadget mimic birds singing in the morning, and flutes in all shapes and sizes.
✨3K was gracious and interactive with the crowd; he would say let me stop talking and get back to the music. I like how he responded to the audience members shouting at him onstage. He turned those moments into dialogue.
✨He encouraged the crowd to participate. We could shout things out and make sounds. This is Atlanta, so they talked that talk, if you know what I mean.
✨There were several times that the music was just marvelous, and all you could do was lean in. I got chills on one song—🔥🔥🔥.
✨it was sweet when he had the crowd shout on the count of three, “We love you, Big Boi!”
✨Funny moment: With confidence and cadence, 3K gave us about eight bars of unidentifiable dialogue. The more he spoke, the more we leaned in, thinking this was profound. He later confessed he made that 💩up and told us to try it on our children. I plan on confusing my baby nephews next week.
✨Grade: 🎤🎤🎤🎤 mics. I would check him out again live.
P.S. I did not dress up. I put on my best lip balm and comfy clothes and went on. My sweatshirt is talking about coffee and flutes 😂. I’m sure I forgot a lot I was in the moment and not trying to use my brain. 😂😂
