About

The Walnut Street Theatre production Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a Philadelphia tradition!  The holiday magic begins when a troupe of actors appear at the historic Walnut Street Theatre to set up and perform the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. We all know this grumpy old miser's response to holiday cheer is "Bah, Humbug." Scrooge is a bitter old man who can no longer feel joy or affection, even for his family. But on one remarkable Christmas Eve, he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. With their help, can Scrooge change his ways? You and your favorite kids are in for a treat with a special hour-long adaptation which uses original and traditional songs to highlight Dickens' powerful story. Deck the halls as our holiday spirits travel beyond the footlights, right into your very own heart.

  • Christmas Carol- Professional, Fun & a Great Value

    by sBuckley2 on 12/18/13Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Wow- Best value in town for holidat cheer! The production was so professional. The entire cast was really into thier roles and the sing was terrific. The ghost of Bob Marley was a little scarey for under 4 year olds but my duaghter who is 5 got scared by the noises at first and then loved every second of the show. My older children and husband found it entertaining, energetic and very much got us into the spirit of the holiday. It is very costly to take a family of five to a show anywhere but this was priced well and was magical.

The show was amazing and great for the kids. It went for about 1:!5 minutes which was just enough to keep the children attentive throughout. All the actors/actresses did an awesome job. Highly recommend the show to get you in the Christmas spirit.

This was a great play especially for the price. It was not very long so it is good for very young children who have a short attention span. My only complaint was the theater was a bit cold. Other then that it was a great performance.

  • A GREAT performance of A Christmas Carol

by Johnonradio on 12/17/13Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

We brought our 2 children ages 5 and 7 and we all loved it. Nonstop action and the hour long performance was perfect for kids.

The play was great! We brought our 2 daughters and they were glued the entire time! The family favorite was the Jacob Marley scene!! Loved the child actors as well!

The play was good from what I could see. I was seated on the very end of the right side of the theatre in the last two seats in Row D, Seats 308 and 309. There were too many props there and actors just standing there blocking our view. Very disappointing!

Great job on acting, effects, and props. Only suggestion is not to talk so fast, we had a hard time understanding many of the actors.

  • not exactly geared to children

by Anonymous on 12/11/13Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

We brought 4 children ages 9-12 years. We were expecting a child oriented show but the language was still difficult to understand. Thankfully we were familiar with the story. There were a number of younger children present in the theater who couldn't follow. Acting and singing were very good.

Great show! The singing was fantastic. Entertaining for adults and children. Both our grandsons loved it!

the play was fine for the most part - being touted as family/kids friendly the ghosts were way too scary...when they came on stage you could hear so so many kids in the theatre crying and needing to leave the theatre. Perhaps a disclaimer of some kind would be helpful. the seats were great

  • A Christmas Carol

Went and saw this show. It was great. Loved the way they changed scenes and moved the show along without doing very much. Loved the music and the acting. That being said, we paid so much money to park that it was ridiculous. The theatre needs to get a parking lot and keep the charge minimal. Even our lunch didn't cost as much as our parking. Still thought the show was great and would go again if the parking was just a little better.

The show "A Christmas Carol" was terrific. The entire cast, with special mention to Ebeneezer Scrooge, was amazing. My family thoroughly enjoyed the production. Thank you!

  • Christmas carol

by Johnnnnyd on 12/24/12Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Christmas carol was very well done, actors great, and close to see everything. We sat in the "box" which wasn't as good as general audience. Overall great, adults probably may enjoy this more than the kids.

  • Great family holiday show!
