About

"Many wonders await audiences in this gorgeously imaginative Broadway musical." - The New York Times

The critically acclaimed bestselling novel comes to "thrilling, dazzling" life (Time Out New York) in a unique, spectacle-filled new musical! Hailed as a Critic's Pick, The New York Times calls it "stunning, emotional, heart-filled and gorgeously imaginative."

After losing what matters most, a young man jumps a moving train unsure of where the road will take him and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, and a life--and love--beyond his wildest dreams. Seen through the eyes of his older self, his adventure becomes a poignant reminder that if you choose the ride, life can begin again at any age.

Tony Award-nominated director Jessica Stone's "huge, heart-filling" production (The New York Times) features a book by three-time Tony nominee Rick Elice adapted from Sara Gruen's novel, and a soaring score by the acclaimed PigPen Theatre Co.

So, step right up to the "spellbinding entertainment" (Variety) at WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, "the best new musical on Broadway" (Theatermania).

  • Meh...

It's 1930's 3nd rate circus with mostly unmemorable songs and a sappy, predictable story. It's a mishmosh of cirque du so what with Lion King-esque puppetry. The Ringmaster shouted his way through all dialogue and every song. Shows with vocal amplification have not yet found the balance between actors trained to project to the balconies and their mics which double, even triple the impact of yelling with over-amplification. It's both distancing and alienating.

I went with my husband for our 30 year wedding anniversary to see "Water for Elephants"at Broward Center November 23, 2025. The theater is beautiful. Our seats were perfect. The production was beyond amazing. We enjoyed the singing, dancing, acrobatics, acting---everything! The people in the show are extremely talented. This show is NYC Broadway comparable. Thank you very much!

Water for Elephants was a wonderful theater experience. I saw the movie a few years back and the live musical was amazing. The music and the acting were outstanding. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone, no matter the age.

  • Wonderfu!

    by Back2soon on 11/20/25Rating: 4 out of 5

The performance was wonderful, beautiful voices, astounding acrobats, with a bit of vaudeville thrown in. But at last night's performance I saw something, in my decades of enjoying live theater, that I have never seen before. As the play was wrapping up and in their finale song members of the audience got up and left before these wonderful performers took their well deserved bows. HOW TOTALLY RUDE! We were in the second tier behind the board and could not see who was taking their bows. These dedicated actors were robbed of the one thing they perform for, audience appreciation. These actors put in weeks and weeks of rehearsal time learning their lines, songs, and acrobatics. I was embarrassed that so many in the audience could not wait to acknowledge their effort. To the cast of WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, please accept my enthusiastic WELL DONE and apologies for those who could not spend a few minutes to send a Bravo.

  • A beautiful afternoonat BCPA

A rocky start with a different entry method—having to show our tickets entering the building. And is it true: we are not to back into our parking space?! That would make an already-clogged exiting at the end even worse. But aside from the above…Water for Elephants was a delightful production. The imagination of creating a circus atmosphere with animals was terrific. The choreography and abilities of the performers to pull off such a conquest was well-orchestrated. They were very talented and Rosie was adorable.

  • NOT MY CUP OF TEA

Water For Elephants. I read the book. I saw the movie. But as a musical stage play? Non. Don’t get me wrong: excellent voices. Excellent! Amazing staging, especially considering the subject matter. And Rosie.. Rosie was a marvel. Very, very clever. But this material is not a good subject for a musical. I liked “The Ten Commandments “ as a movie, too, but not suitable as a musical. Neither is this.

  • What a magical production!

by Lauren on 11/14/25Rating: 5 out of 5

One of my favorite books of all time, so when I found out Water for Elephants was touring as a Broadway musical, I had to see it! And WOW, what a show! The dancing, the acrobatics, the music, and the imaginative way they brought the animals to life were all truly incredible. It’s joyful, colorful, emotional, and beautifully staged. Yes, there are darker moments (what story doesn’t have them?), but the magic of the circus shines through. If you love a good spectacle, grab some popcorn and step right up! 🎪✨🐘💫🍿

Great show however wish there was introduction to the show in the program. Was difficult to understand the role of the elder man until the end.
