About

The Walnut Street Theatre production Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a Philadelphia tradition!  The holiday magic begins when a troupe of actors appear at the historic Walnut Street Theatre to set up and perform the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. We all know this grumpy old miser's response to holiday cheer is "Bah, Humbug." Scrooge is a bitter old man who can no longer feel joy or affection, even for his family. But on one remarkable Christmas Eve, he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. With their help, can Scrooge change his ways? You and your favorite kids are in for a treat with a special hour-long adaptation which uses original and traditional songs to highlight Dickens' powerful story. Deck the halls as our holiday spirits travel beyond the footlights, right into your very own heart.

The play itself was done well. I would have loved to have a live orchestra playing for this musical though.

  • Christmas Carol family fun

by JackXmas on 12/9/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Not sure ghost scenes appropriate for pre schoolers, but effects eye catching. Music right on and the story line pretty well follows the old black and white Alistair Sims movie. And only being one act, keeps the attention of little ones without inducing boredom and restlessness. Glad to have gone.

This was a treat for my 7 & 9 year old nieces. All of us enjoyed the performance. Just a little difficult hearing the dialogue clearly. This is a family must do for the Christmas season.

We were 15 strong at the show on Saturday 12/21 @ 11 a.m. All the 10 children loved every minute; the parents enjoyed it also. We have been doing this for about 12 or 13 years.
