great show. Even though it is a children's show, it is more for older children due to old London diction and themes. They stick to the original story so it's great for all of us who know the story so well, but may be lost on newer/younger audiences.

About
The Walnut Street Theatre production Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a Philadelphia tradition! The holiday magic begins when a troupe of actors appear at the historic Walnut Street Theatre to set up and perform the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. We all know this grumpy old miser's response to holiday cheer is "Bah, Humbug." Scrooge is a bitter old man who can no longer feel joy or affection, even for his family. But on one remarkable Christmas Eve, he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. With their help, can Scrooge change his ways? You and your favorite kids are in for a treat with a special hour-long adaptation which uses original and traditional songs to highlight Dickens' powerful story. Deck the halls as our holiday spirits travel beyond the footlights, right into your very own heart.

not worth the money so disappointing!!
by sportylodee on 12/18/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 1 out of 5My expectations were low, yet it still fell short given the amount of money I spent. My biggest issue was the view. I had third row mezz, but 2 tall adults in front of me that made me move from side to side to see the performance. I was very uncomfortable because I could not sit back and relax for the whole hour. Secondly, there should not be a charge for children under 5 - or at least a VERY discounted rate. Parking rates were ridiculous. Snack prices were ridiculous. The show itself, "A Christmas Carol" was a little rushed. Too much singing and a little more acting for this particular play. I am glad I went, because now I know never again!
Excellent!
by SocratesNJ on 12/16/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5We took our 9-year old grand-daughter to see it and it was ideal for her. It was an extremely well production. Lines from the book were preserved and the story line was not changed in any way. Even the scary stuff was done carefully - just the right level for the kids. The 1-hour length was perfect. Most kids (including our grand-daughter) would become "antsy" with anything longer.

Excellent musical version of a classic. Amazing set and cast. Our whole family enjoyed it. It is geared to families do even more kids in the play would add to it.

Charles Dickens' words are hard on youngster's ear
by Joe215 on 12/9/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5The best part of the Walnut Street Theater's Christmas Carol was the performances of the actors. Each and every one of them, and some were very young, played their part(s) with enthusiasm and a feel for the story being told and time period in which it takes place. The appearance of the ghosts, particularly Jacob Marley, sent a chill through the audience that you could actually feel thanks to effective costumes, lighting and sound. This was proven by many of the younger members of the audience with hands over their faces and clinging to the nearest adult. The only problem was the use of the actual dialog as written by Mr. Dickens. I realize that the dialog is a big part of the work, but it was, for the most part, beyond the understanding of the younger members of the audience who had trouble following the story because of this. The older members of the audience had no trouble understanding what poor houses were or that a situation is a job, but it left the youngsters lost in a sea of words they couldn't understand. I, and my grandchildren, still loved the show and gave us all a lot to think about. And, after all, isn't that what Mr. Dickens had in mind?
Scrooge was so funny and cute!

A Christmas Carol is a seasonal must-do!
by JordanTaylorMom on 12/9/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5A Christmas Carol at the Walnut Street is a highlight of our holiday season! It simply wouldn't be Christmas in Philadelphia without it. The perfect length for families, and the quality is unparalleled.
Always a great holiday show!
by Dlr2276 on 12/8/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5Great show for adults and kids alike! We have attended for the last 4 years, since our son was 3. I wouldn't recommend this show for kids under 3-4 due to some intense moments with the ghosts and Marley. School age kids and up will love the show. It even "snows" at the conclusion!!
A Christmas Carol is for big kids too
by 1242015 on 12/7/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5As would be expected, the audience for the morning show was filled with youngsters on school outings, so the expectation for the performance was that it would be geared to that age level. However, this was not the case; rather, it very much is a performance that uses the author's words and is staged to appeal as much (if not more) to adult viewers prone to more critical views of stage musicals. While the score is nothing memorable, the enthusiasm of the performers, the choreography and the very clever use of stage props make this very much a joyous production for children of all ages (except, perhaps, for toddlers who, like the one sitting next to us, may be frightened by the ghosts into vocal fear and tears). This is a production that far outperforms the cost of admission!
Simply Awesome
by Suzie65 on 12/1/15Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5The Walnut Street Theatre is a great place! Taking the speed-line is easy. The show was amazing. It's really great for kids. There is no intermission. The show truly brings The Chtistmas Carol to life! Tiny Tim is awesome❤️
Great for kids and adults!
by BuggieBear on 12/31/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5This was my son's first play and he enjoyed it from beginning to end. The performers did an excellent job and although it was tailored for kids it wasn't 'dumbed down'. A lot of the old English was retained yet could still be understood by children. I hope this will be playing again next year. My son and I would definitely return!

Play was good!

Wonderful Holiday Entertainment!
by rmkcs on 12/24/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5We took our five grandchildren and all enjoyed it! Two 11-year olds and 5-year old thoroughly engrossed though the 7-year old and 4-year old were a bit frightened by the very realistic, but well done, ghost scenes. Costumes were lovely and stage settings worked well.
A Christmas Carol Memory
by KayBee62 on 12/24/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5We thoroughly enjoyed the play (Me, my Husband, Daughters aged 20 & 17) along with their Grandmother. Coming into Philadelphia for the 11 am show and then going to lunch afterward and enjoying the sites of Christmas made for a memorable day. My children were not excited until we got into the theatre and were surrounded with families and people of all ages dressed up for the event. The play was excellent, and the man who played Ebenezer Scrooge outstanding. We intend to make this a family tradition, my kids enjoyed it that much. This show is perfect for young families and people who aren't really into the performing arts (approximately 1 hour in length). All of the players knew their parts and played them well. ***suggestion-the volunteer in our section had a large ring of keys that were a bit disruptive at times, throughout the performance. (probably not needed & could have been set aside).
A Christmas Carol - great family time!
by Anonymous on 12/23/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5As always, I am quite pleased when I take my two boys 9 and 14 to see a performance at Walnut Street Theatre. The one hour show was just long enough and it got the attention of my nine year old and even my fourteen year old enjoyed the show:-) The performers do a great job and they are entertaining and fun to watch.

Christmas Event Done Right
by MikeD88 on 12/17/14Walnut Street Theatre - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5Not too long. Not too short. Well, you always want a terrific production to run a little longer just so you have more time to enjoy the show. The family and I all enjoyed our time and the performance well done of A Christmas Carol.
Great Holiday Show
