The Beaches in Concert
The Beaches were still in their late teens when they formed in 2013, but by that point, they were practically veterans already. The musical relationship between sisters Jordan Miller (vocals/guitar) and Kylie Miller (guitar) and their best friend Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums) dates back to their junior-high school days, when they formed their first band, Done With Dolls.
A glossy, Avril-inspired pop-rock outfit in Hot Topic clothing, Done With Dolls released their debut album in 2009 and became fixtures on The Family Channel thanks to their theme song for the sitcom ‘Really Me.' But before long, the girls were eager to start a new band that reflected their maturing musical tastes, which spanned 1970s new-wave pioneers like The Pretenders, 1990s grunge icons like Nirvana, and early 2000s garage-rockers like The Strokes. With the arrival of keyboardist Leandra Earl, the new group christened itself The Beaches, an ironic tribute to the genteel east-end Toronto neighborhood where the Millers and Enman-McDaniel were raised. After signing a development deal with Island Records in 2014, The Beaches ventured out to L.A. and began a long quest to find the right producer. Eventually, The Beaches found their dream team closer to home: fellow Torontonians Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, who brought their wiry indie-rock essence to The Beaches' swaggering 2017 debut album, ‘Late Show.' Powered by attitude-heavy tracks like the young ‘n' desperate rallying cry "Money" and the suggestive strut "T-Shirt," the album earned the band Breakthrough Group of the Year honors at the Juno Awards, as well as prime opening slots for heavy hitters like Eagles of Death Metal and Death From Above 1979. And as anyone who's seen The Beaches live can attest, the band have the vibrantly colored vintage clothes to match their glamtastic throwback jams.
I haven’t been to a concert since before Covid, but this was easily the best concert I’ve ever been to.
The Beaches sound amazing live. Their energy on stage is infectious. What a spectacular show.
The band is amazing, such a good performance by all the members. I love the renovated Massey Hall.
Surprised my daughter with tickets to one of my/her favourite bands and they did not disappoint. Venue was awesome, show was phenomenal. It was a fantastic evening :)
Amazing!!! They were incredible. Such rockstars. There set was so tight
Rockin band so much fun - great acoustics at Massey hall I would see them again in a heartbeat
Wasn't sure what to expect seeing them live. But it was so good and full of energy, that now their albums feel slow in comparison. They gave their all and they know how to perform live... no doubt about that!
The Beaches absolutely rock! The show was phenomenal and their energy is incredible. I always have a blast seeing them on stage and it was a nice intimate setting at Mercury Lounge. Everyone go see these girls they are amazing!
Great show with a lot of energy. Good vocals and excellent guitar playing. First time I’ve seen them and now I’m a big fan. They really knockdown my socks off
i went to this event for the opener, hotel fiction, and had so much fun listening and singing to their set as well as seeing the amazing performance by the beaches who i have since added music from. i loved the place, vibe was so sick the whole night.
We lined up 30 min before doors opened and we got a great table. Beaches was energetic and entertaining throughout. We had a fantastic time
The Beaches put on a great show. They sounded great and they were clearly having fun up there. They got the crowd involved and everyone was having a great time. The Blue Stones were great too.
The beaches always put on an amazing show, this one did not disappoint. They are a must see band.
These ladies know how to Rock ! Great performance from beginning to end
Love the Corona Venue. Good sound and good proximity to the stage. The Beaches were electric and amazing as always. Love going to shows at this venue!
I think the reason I liked the show so much was the fact that seeing an all woman band and seeing them not just play! But rock the Corona walls was impressive. The time is gladly far gone, from when we thought women couldn’t rock the house on their own. Proud dad of a daughter singer
Was a great experience meeting the beaches. They have great energy and they’re all really nice to talk to. Even got a hug from all of them :)
Whether you love this band, notice they’re opening for someone you like, or never heard of them before; it’s in your best interest to see The Beaches. The Beaches put on a very high energy rock and roll show with equal musical ability and stage performance. In an age where “rock is dead” and most alternative bands stand there and play their melancholic songs with no presence; you feel like you’ll never see a real rock show again. The Beaches show up a blow the place up. From their hits like “Money” and “T-Shirt” to old deep cuts like “Boy Wonder” you will be in awe and jaw dropped from beginning to end. Highly recommend if you like music in general or just want to have a good time.
The Danforth Music Hall needs to rethink their GA venue format. First, the stage is too low to get a satisfactory view, except for butts and backs! Raise the stage for GA venues!! The Beaches had to periodically stand in raised platforms to be seen! Take the hint Danforth. Check out Key to Bala... they know how to do this right! Secondly, the music was way too loud and distorted for the venue! Get some people who know sound systems! Isn’t that what sound checks are for!!?
These girls are amazing! Very entertaining and somehow they sound even better live. Can’t wait to see them again!!
