One of the brightest young luminaries in roots music today, Sierra Ferrell brings a dose of beautifully strange magic to everything she touches. Since the arrival of Long Time Coming (her acclaimed debut LP for Rounder Records), the West Virginia-born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has earned the Emerging Act of the Year prize at the Americana Honors & Awards, collaborated with the likes of Margo Price and Old Crow Medicine Show, and enchanted audiences all over North America and Europe with her high-spirited and dazzling live performance. On her new album Trail Of Flowers, the Nashville-based artist expands her sound while deepening the urgency of her songs, often revealing a wealth of wisdom within her wildly imaginative storytelling.
Her first full-length since Long Time Coming--a 2021 release that drew praise from outlets like Pitchfork, Paste, Pop Matters, and No Depression--Trail Of Flowers came to life with producers Eddie Spear (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton) and Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Dwight Yoakam, Gillian Welch) and with such esteemed musicians as Chris Scruggs. In keeping with a musical upbringing that included playing everywhere from truck stops to boxcars to New Orleans street corners, the album journeys from freewheeling bluegrass to heartrending old-time music to fantastically gritty honky-tonk and beyond, endlessly changing shape to accommodate the immense scope of Ferrell's eccentric musicality. Mainly recorded at Sound Emporium Studios and featuring guest appearances from singer/songwriters Lukas Nelson and Nikki Lane, Trail Of Flowers ultimately fulfills her longstanding mission of making music that transcends all barriers of time. "I wanted to create something that makes people feel nostalgic for the past, but excited about the future of music," Ferrell points out.
Instantly proving her extraordinary capacity to merge timeless musicianship with lyrics exploring modern concerns, Trail Of Flowers opens on "American Dreaming": a world-weary yet soul-stirring track that speaks to the struggle to build a good life in a culture consumed by capitalism. Another song informed by her singular outlook on the modern world, "Fox Hunt" takes the form of a furiously stomping epic driven by galloping rhythms and some feverish fiddle work from Ferrell. On "Rosemary," she delves further into her old-time roots and delivers the album's most haunting moment: a stark but spellbinding story-song graced with a few bars of soulful yodeling. A profoundly gifted vocalist, Ferrell often captures an entire world of feeling in just a single line, particularly on tracks like "Dollar Bill Bar"--a swinging but wistful number on which she cycles from longing to regret to devil-may-care attitude with impossible ease. And on "I Could Drive You Crazy," Ferrell serves up one of the most joyful moments on Trail Of Flowers, sharing a harmony-fueled and singalong-ready love song that's both self-effacing and gloriously fun.
In selecting a title for her latest body of work, Ferrell chose to reference her deep love of flowers and affinity for surrounding herself with gorgeously colorful blossoms--a perfect reflection of her wondrous inner world. As a listening experience, Trail Of Flowers provides a similar sensation of all-enveloping and off-kilter beauty--one that Ferrell hopes might lift others into a more charmed state of mind. "I'm just trying to put words and melodies together and build it into something people can pour their feelings too, all their happiness and sorrows, so that it changes their reality a little bit and gives them some comfort," she says. "To me music is like medicine. And whenever I write a song and it feels healing to me, I know it can heal other people too."
Sierra Farrell is an experience she sounds just as good live as on the album her accompanying band are super talented you won't want to miss this show. She's also super quirky and loveable

The venue was cozy and personal. Sierra is a fantastic performer that will be selling out larger amphitheaters this time next year. Her band is extremely talented. I’d go see her again any time she plays in Florida or even Georgia.

Her show was like stepping back in time watching a young Loretta Lynn perform. Her energy was infectious and the crowd was amazing. One of my favorite venues and now one of my favorite performers. I'll definitely be looking for my next opportunity to catch her.
You’ve probably heard the record and have some feels about Sierra’s lovely take on country/folk. If you haven’t seen her then what you may not know is how effortlessly she connects with the room. She’s having an experience with you. She is beyond delighted to do so, too. Everyone there is vibing. When she’s the biggest star in this particular world, I hope you can look back like we can and say that you saw her in a venue that only held 300 enchanted people. By the time you are thinking about this she may well be playing stadiums. She’s just amazing, and even more so live.
Don’t miss this show. Great energy, amazing sound, Sierra is amazing. Two runner opened the show and we’re also incredible !
They pack too many people into two small spaces. It is a funnel to get to the pit, uncomfortable once there, and impossible to return. The higher flat surface is even more crowded (from people unable to get to the pit but still wanting to see). Back up to where you have some elbow room, you are standing at noisy bar, unable to see or hear the band. Not a good venue for "fringe-ers," because there is no good fringe.
Best show of the new summer season. The venue small and intimate, Sierra delivered. The audience loved her as she turned us into putty with her heart and voice and old timey ballads.
I thought the concert performance was exceptional. She is an amazing artist. But I find it unfortunate that the Knitting Factory does not provide any chairs whatsoever in the concert hall. Some of us enjoy live music, but cannot stand for 3 hours. Watching a TV screen is not the same as watching her live. Entry management was very kind & helpful in allowing me to keep my water bottle and providing me water to put in it. Thank you!
One of the best live performances I have ever attended. Sierra's voice cannot be captured on a record and all three band members were great at making her shine while each adding there own flair at times. The venue was perfectly small so that we felt part of the show, not just a distant observer.

I saw Sierra last year and absolutely fell in love. She's amazing with her produced music but she is phenomenal live. My GF would always give me a hard time about my crush on Sierra. I was able to bring my GF to the concert this year and she is totally onboard the Sierra crush bandwagon now!
The performance was awesome. The bar set up was crowded and cumbersome. You could get beer on the main level, but not hard liquor. The hard liquor was only available upstairs in a small area. I am sure the venue was doing what they could to comply with Utah liquor laws. Maybe when you have a packed house, find another solution to allow you patrons to get a drink. Sierra Ferrell and band were fantastic, getting a drink, not so much.
This is not for the weak, she played so many songs, so expect to be standing for a while! Her opener, Willi Carlilse, was a gem!! The instrumentalists, upright bass & fiddle & mandolin, we’re downright imppecable! Such a grooving performace, and Sierra is such a natural on stage ♥️♥️♥️ BRAVO!!
Haved loved Ferrell's music for a while. Recordings don't do her justice!! Such a top-notch musician and performer. Easy to see she and her band members were enjoying the show as much as the audience, who was enjoying it to the max! We would definitely go see her again and spring for the better seats. ;) Timbo, who opened for her was also very, very enjoyable and a superb guitarist. So glad they came to Knoxville.
From the ease of entering the Bijou Theatre with our digitally scanned tickets, to the great seats, to the great selection of drinks, to the FLAWLESS performance by Sierra and her musicians.....we had a very rewarding evening!
