LETTUCE is (a) the prime ingredient in a salad, (b) a slang for cash, (c) a green herb that can be smoked, (d) a genre-busting six-member musical collective formed in 1992 by four alumni of the prestigious Berklee College Of Music, or (e) all of the above. If you answered "e," then you're in on the sheer magic of a band that both feeds the rich history of funk and combines it with strains of hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, jam, go-go, and the avant-garde.
The GRAMMY Award-nominated six-piece is comprised of Adam Deitch [drums, percussion, arrangement], Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff [guitar], Erick "Jesus" Coomes [bass], Ryan Zoidis [alto, baritone, tenor sax, Korg X-911], Eric "Benny" Bloom [trumpet, horns], and Nigel Hall [vocals, Hammond B-3, Rhodes, clavinet, keyboards]. To date, their discography includes Outta Here [2002], Rage! [2008], Fly [2012], Crush [2015], the EP Mt. Crushmore [2016], the live album Witches Stew [2017], Elevate [2019], Resonate [2020], Unify [2022], and now VIBE - a single 48 minute continuous session of pure, free-flowing improvisation, available digitally for the first time.
With VIBE, Lettuce cement their status as boundary-pushing innovators three decades into their lauded career, blurring lines and smashing up jazz chords, psychedelic passages, big horns, strains of soul and go-go, hip-hop elements for an uplifting, improvisational sound all their own. Ryan Zoidis explains, "we got into a vibe and hit record. 48 minutes went by like a blink of an eye. This is our first purely improvised recording. Nothing planned, nothing edited or overdubbed. This is a true spontaneous musical expression captured in its entirety."
All together now... Lett us VIBE.

Lettuce, was great funky jazz rock, as usual. The Space was a nice enough venue. Good sound system. I was in front of the band. Rocking out. There was plenty of room on the flat part of the floor to stand and watch or dance w the band and listen. there really wasn’t a bad place to be in The Space. I suppose my criticisms would be they closed off the lounge so there was really no lounge place to hang except just standing waiting for the band. there was no food except pretzels with no salt, And although I’m glad to see lettuce and this was the night that I had free to see them,It’s more fun to see them in Brooklyn or CT in a space that’s a little more fun, a little more action around it and the crowd here was kind of subdued..I did look at the load section which was flat I would never sit there and the balcony I would never pay money to sit there either because you’re going to club to rock out; not fall asleep in a chair. But that’s just me
Great Space. Great fans. Awful bar service. Absolutely impossible to get a drink from clearly untrained people behind both bars. I can’t even call them bartenders. Don’t they want our cash?!
Indeed, another stellar event! So wonderful to have all of this taking place at the beach… The presence of Surfrider and their incentive to get people to pick up recyclables makes such a huge difference in keeping the area free of trash and subsequently out of the ocean… This year there was a bit of trash around, pretty minimal considering but last year there wasn’t a speck, I’d love to see that again next year. Seems like there was less ground crew emptying cans so some where overflowing. Another sweet mix of bands, music styles, and fantastic art! I’d love to see more vegan food options, there is one but not anything appealing to me as a vegan for 34 years.
Lettuce is by far the best band i've ever seen live. The energy they bring on stage is unreal.
Cabot Theatre is an intimate 100 year old theatre with a new Meyersound PA that sounds fantastic. and of course, Lettuce ALWAYS brings the funk.
These guys shred, never disappoint and played for a long, long time. Great time and wonderful venue (Cabot Theater in Beverly)!
They rock, horn and saxophone really bring it together. Blew my mind. Will see again.
This was only my second Lettuce show so I can’t say I am a Superfan or really know their music like many others. But compared to January show at House of Blues, this one seemed very reserved and mellow. I was with someone who was attending their 16th Lettuce show who a little more than half way through turned to us and said “I’m sorry, this is the most pulled back and boring set I’ve ever seen of them.” They are all incredible musicians and they sound was great, but this show just wasn’t very energetic or exciting. In fact we left a little early and were told later they played three more songs after we left. Not sure if the venue had anything to do with it, but the sound and we’ve been to several rockin show at the Cabot. So while this one was a little disappointing, we’ll definitely be back to the Cabot and go see Lettuce again at some point.
Terrific show...lighting, sound and, of course, the band itself. These guys crushed it for close to 3 hours.
Great show....right up front with the VIP deal...good vibes jammin with Lettuce
OMG! This band keeps getting better and better and better! Looking forward to the next time they are in town. I loved the venue too. All of the seats at Center Stage Theater are 'good seats'.
I’m a lover of live music! I’ve traveled to New York and Europe to check out various performances and I must admit hands down this is one of the best performances I’ve seen in YEARS!! I’m not a fan of general admission concerts because I want to have a seat with a number deemed as mine! Well low and behold, we found great seats next to the stage but the funny thing is I never sat! I was on my feet shaking my money maker the entire time!!! I’m fully aware of Lettuce’s catalog but this was my first time seeing them live! What a treat! They were energetic and FUNKY!!!
What a great concert in a small venue! Nice groove throughout the night. A little repetitious at times, but easily overlooked. FYI: That horn section made the night! OMG!!
Really enjoyed the the show and the venue. Entry was quick, security and ticket staff was friendly and efficient. Bars seemed to move quick and were reasonably priced. On to the music... Lettuce was funky as always and really crushed it. They were very engaged with the audience and brought it from start to finish. I would say that the sound was slightly off as it was hard to hear some of the bass guitar and punch of the kick drum. They seemed to adjust it after a few songs and it was better for the second set. Don’t miss a Lettuce show! Can’t wait to see them back in Atlanta again soon.
Amazing awesome fun night!! We all had a blast! Thanks for another great show Lettuce!!
Amazing. Simply Amazing. Turkuaz was just as good as lettuce. My only complaint is that i only got one set of each. But the soul rebels were good too.
The show and venue were amazing and I cant wait to see Lettuce and Galactic again!
Sick show sweet venue dope food trucks! Would go again :)
Great to see Lettuce back in Maine! Awesome show. Good crowd, good music, nice venue.
