About

The sandy shores of Asbury Park, New Jersey are hallowed ground in the northeast; the rolling waves have ushered generations of venerated musicians to worldwide acclaim. Dogs in a Pile, an eclectic quintet, has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. Merging funk, jazz, and rock and roll with psychedelia, the quintet presents a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear.

The Dogs employ a unified approach to performance and songwriting, crafting aural mosaics through adept instrumentation and humble precocity. As avid storytellers, they draw inspiration from personal experiences, balancing life’s foibles with ever-present youthful sanguinity.

Dogs began when Philadelphia University of the Arts guitar gun-slinger Jimmy Law began playing with young Joe Babick (drums), a student at the Count Basie Theater program in Red Bank, NJ. Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of fellow Berklee student Brian Murray (guitar) in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle.

A string of successful local shows drove the development of a massive northeast fan base, affectionately known as the Dog Pound. The band’s astronomical growth culminated in an epic, sold-out performance at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park during the summer of 2021. Armed with a fresh batch of new material, Dogs in a Pile is taking its perpetually evolving testament to the Great American Songbook on tour in 2022, visiting plenty of new cities and spreading good music and good energy to good people along the way.

  • Top Dogs

by ER on 9/9/25Stone Pony Summer Stage - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

Fourth time seeing them this year and i am still blown away after each performance. This homecoming was something special and I’m glad i was there for it. Going to miss seeing them in smaller venues when they inevitably blow up.

  • Love the band, not venue

by Rossome on 4/28/25Jannus Live - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

Dogs in a Pile is an amazing band. I got to see them live for the first time and they were everything that I expected. What I don't expect is the club music being blasted from next door to Jannus Live ruining my experience. This is not the first time that the bar/club next door has their music blasting and disturbing our concert experience. It is sad when the artists have to hear it and actually address it. That artist hasn't been back since that night and I don't blame them. I wish Jannus would address this with their neighbors or you can count me and I'm sure a lot of other concert goers out on future shows.

  • The Social in Orlando is the Worst Venue in the State

by Skip on 4/27/25Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 4 out of 5

Went to see a Dogs in a Pile concert at The Social in Orlando. I go to Lots of concerts(went to 12 just in the month of April), and I promise you that The Social in Orlando is the Absolute Worst venue to see live music anywhere in the state of Florida. The layout of the floor and bar area is so chopped up you literally cannot move(forget about dancing) in there when it is full, and it is Very Hot in there because of its small size and the amount of people that they cram in there. If a fire broke out there would be carnage. The venue booked the band on a Saturday AND they also Double Booked the venue for another event later that same night. Which meant that the band was forced by the venue to start at 7pm and was also forced by the venue to stop playing by 9pm! Who in the world has ever heard of a Jam Band/Rock concert Ending before 9pm on a Saturday night? If a band you want to see is playing at The Social in Orlando, do yourself a favor and do not go. I have been to well over 500 concerts(stopped counting) and this was definitely one of the top 5 worst experiences I have ever had at any venue. I am only giving it 4 Stars because the band is my favorite band right now, and I do not want the review to reflect negatively on the band, because Dogs in a Pile was Awesome.

  • Great Time at High Noon

by Junior on 4/16/25High Noon Saloon - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was awesome at this show... the sound, lighting, crowd, venue. The only thing i would change is the entry protocol. My wife had her purse searched 2x, and the wand metal check took 5 minutes per person. Otherwise, we loved it.

  • Most Excellent Jam Band!

by StuBdoo on 2/11/25Scoot Inn - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen this band several times over the last few years. Always at festivals with a festival set. Last night show they were the headliner and their set was fantastic. Very Jammy, with very trippy extended sessions. I look forward to seeing them again!

  • I was duped

by Ben on 2/11/25Scoot Inn - AustinRating: 2 out of 5

The fact that there was an opening band was a total surprise. Nowhere was this disclosed that I could see. Dogs finally showed up and played for just 1:45.

  • Lots of fun!

by WesmanDoggsfan on 2/11/25Scoot Inn - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

Dogs in a pile are always a lot of fun to listen to or go see. I can’t see anybody having anything but a great time at one of their shows! And Ticketmaster easily gave me the best prices

  • These guys get better every time I see them

by Andrew on 2/10/25Tannahill's Tavern and Music Hall - Fort WorthRating: 5 out of 5

I have never been to Tannahills before. What a fun venue. Dogs in a pile were absolutely fantastic. If these guys are coming through your city, I highly recommend you going and checking them out.
