About

In Flames in Concert

Among the forefathers of Swedish death metal, In Flames have been in the game for almost 30 years. Formed by guitarist Jesper Strömblad in 1990 as a side project from his other death metal band, Ceremonial Oath, In Flames would quickly become his main focus.

In 1993, Strömblad quit Ceremonial Oath to devote himself fully to his new enterprise. The same year, he recorded the band's first demo with its first official lineup, which featured Glenn Ljungström on guitar and Johan Larsson on bass (although the lineup has changed often since).

Their demo got them signed to Wrong Again records, who released the band's first album in 1994. Lunar Strain was a solid start for the band, giving them a place to start exploring melodic death metal in a real way. A year later, they released Subterranean EP, which gave them some notoriety with its aggressive speeds and soaring melodies — it caught the attention of esteemed metal label Nuclear Blast, who signed them.

On Nuclear Blast, In Flames was off to the races, continuing to release increasingly acclaimed music throughout the ‘90s and ‘00s. With 2002's Reroute to Remain, the band took a left turn and underwent a few substantial stylistic changes, including starting to use clean vocals and employing catchier hooks and choruses.

Their new music had a generally lighter feel, which helped them break through to the mainstream and gain a bigger fan base, They quickly blew up in the U.S. and were booked at Ozzfest. The album peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart. Going forward, they continued their new sound and their new music led them to the promised land. They went on to win four Grammis, the Swedish version of the Grammys.

    Iconic amazing musicians

    by Basboosa911 on 5/11/24Piedmont Hall - Greensboro

What a great group of musicians. No question how much they love what they do and it shows. You can see them each grooving to the music and the sound was amazing. I was fortunate to meet them at a meet and greet and they were great down to earth people. It was one of the best live shows I’ve been too. I love they came to a smaller venue. Last time I was in a coliseum and you don’t get the passion you can see when up close. Vocals and performance was on point. It was a great concert. Only down side is they didn’t have any of the tour shirts. They ran out before coming here and no chance to get any. Also wish they had their new gin brand and hot sauce available.

    Drums, Bass, Lights and Action

by First time Metal on 5/10/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

Openers were great energy, unique talent and style. Creeping Death impressed, Gate Creepers had great bass, and the venue was a great size to accommodate. In Flames gave an inspired show with old and new sounds showcasing the experience of showmanship. I think they maybe wanted more energy from the crowd, Charleston should definitely show up for their next tour and not be so shy!

    Great Birthday Experience!

by JP on 5/10/24The Charleston Music Hall - Charleston

In Flames has been my favorite band for many years now. Living in Charleston, SC, the Metal scene isn't as big in other markets. So whenever a band of note comes to town, I make sure I get tickets right away. It was my first time at this venue, but I loved it.

Great Show at a Great Venue

by Eric on 5/6/24Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

This is my 7th time seeing In Flames and every time I can expect an amazing show, I'm never let down. The Casino Ballroom in Hampton, NH is an awesome venue with great staff. The sound was terrific, the beers were cold and the night was overall a perfect experience. There's ample parking if you're willing to pay, but I can't beat a 60 second walk to the venue. I did get the VIP Meet & Greet package and that was worth it as well. In Flames are very polite and fun guys. I've been to the Ballroom before and I will be returning at some point in the future. 10/10 recommend.

    In Flames We Trust

    by psc69nyc on 5/6/24Warsaw - Brooklyn

In Flames put on an amazing show at The Warsaw in Brooklyn on Friday May 3, 2024. Perfect blend of new and old songs some of which I had not heard live before. This was my fourth time seeing In Flames and maybe it was their best set yet. The venue was excellent. I had never been to The Warsaw before and was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely attend a show there again. I would love to see In Flames at a larger venue. Maybe next time The Kings Theater of the new Brooklyn Paramount. People forget how big this band is in Europe and yet they play much smaller venues in the states. Anyway, I was glad the show was sold out and hope they return to Brooklyn again soon. IFWT
