  • Fran L Carnegie music hall

by Noname on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

She was great. The 30 minute Q&A did not seem to be very well prepared. Did not think the host had prepared good questions. He should have done more research. I loved the idea of an audience Q&A but there should have been 1. 2-3 Prepared questioners so there was not dead time. 2. A staff in audience. Even if not having a microphone, someone ( with large voice) to carry the question both to Fran and the rest of the audience. But, it was funny. And enjoyable.

  • Fran Lebowirz

She's everything that you'd expect. Irreverent, insightful and brutally honest. A great evening

  • Just OK

by Paulie on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

The evening was just OK. I think she should’ve had a prepared presentation for the first half hour. It wasn’t that interesting to hear the “moderator” talk and Fran interject comments occasionally. Her responses to audience questions were more interesting. She got better as the evening went on. Again I say she was ok, but nothing special.

  • Every topic was political

by Pat on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 2 out of 5

We expected some political commentary but also expected some humor and more variety of topic.

  • Fran great! Interviewer not so much.

by Mimi17 on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Pittsburgh interviewer didn’t seem prepared and only had his own agenda in mind with his questions. I’m fact, I felt sorry for Fran that she had to endure his inane questions. Could he not have prepared better to know her strengths and interests? This is the only reason I gave the show 4 stars instead of 5. Once Fran started taking questions from the audience, she started to shine. Another issue was the lighting in the facility. The stage was barely lit and there were spotlights in Fran’s eyes as she tried to look out into the audience. In the balcony, the ushers had blinding flashlights that they used to seat late-comers and that interfered with the program for those already seated.

  • Loved the performance, hated that Ticketmaster moved seats

by DWG on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

I am mildly agoraphobic and need to either sit in the front row or back row and on an aisle. This phobia began after living in NYC (Hell’s Kitchen) for years. A day before the performance I receive an email saying our seats have been changed and no way to change them back! When we get to the theater, we are in the middle of a row, behind a pole, surrounded by people on each side. I am part of the entertainment industry so I don’t attend performances as an audience member often, but I was excited about Fran. She was amazing, but we ended up having to sit in the back row of the balcony because our front row seats in the balcony were changed by Ticketmaster.

  • Disappointing

by P. R. on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 1 out of 5

First 30 minute conversation with the author was dominated by the interviewer. There was zero chemistry between them. The rest of the event was audience Q+A for an hour. That. Was. It. Really shockingly lacking in any new content or insights....I was tempted to request my money back....

  • Provocative

by Libit on 3/6/23Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Thought the format could be tweaked. The first 30 minutes felt stiff with little rapport between the Washington Post reporters questions for discussion and Fran. Reporter seemed to seek approval for guns because of his gentrified lifestyle and family protection…it was an awkward beginning and didn’t recover.

  • Always fascinating Fran

by Mo on 12/17/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Just excellent. Fran is always funny, insightful, and erudite. It was well woth the trip to see her! Also it was my first time at NJPAC which is beautiful and has lovely staff.

  • An incomparable story teller

by KatieAnne on 12/14/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Fran was terrific! Interesting and informative. Audience Q & A was great but really needed a mike for questioners so audience could hear them.

  • A conservation with Fran

by Barbara on 12/14/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

It was slightly an unexpected format. 30 Min talk, then question and answers from the audience. Fran is delightful, witty and so honest. There were some odd questions but Fran replied brilliantly. It was very entertaining

  • Worth it!

by MKW on 12/14/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

She was funny, entertaining, and interesting, but I didn't get to ask her about her Law and Order experience. There were too many questions!

  • Enjoyed Immensely!

by gigi on 12/14/22New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Ms. Lebowitz's humor is not for everyone. I happen to find her insightful and hilarious. Her show did not disappoint. She told very funny stories during the interview. I enjoyed the off the cuff questions and answers session even more. I am so happy that I got to see her in person and hope to see her on the streets of Manhattan one day. If that should ever happen, I will pretend it's a city and respect her privacy.

  • Great Evening

by JP on 5/15/22Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Fran was wonderful and worth the ticket price. The questions they asked her during the Q&A were weak and the format of the show was not properly communicated beforehand. There should have been microphones for the audience to ask questions.

  • Fran Lebowitz was great but the sound awfull

    by Jeannette Garcia on 5/10/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 2 out of 5

Fran Lebowitz was great but the church was full and we moved to the side of the stage because we could not hear them talking. Many people left or tried like us to find better seats.

  • In a church...

    by Stéphan Caron on 5/10/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 1 out of 5

I was very happy to go see Fran Leibowitz, although I had suspicions about the event being in a church because of the usual sound issues in those places. People in the front were laughing, people in the rear weren't. The sound was very bad in the rear and things got worse in the 2nd half of the event as Mrs Leibowitz was taking questions from the audience. We couldn't hear a single question and we left. What a bad idea!

  • Fran

    by Jayzee on 5/10/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 2 out of 5

Acoustics was terrible. I ended up paying in US dollars, more than others. Same as her Netflix Special, I was disappointed.

  • Total Sound Disaster

    by LC on 5/9/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 1 out of 5

Did no one do a sound check? Did no one wonder how the question portion of the show would work? Heard nothing but my inner frustration. Shame on whoever didn’t think Fran Lebowitz should be properly miked. The first few rows probably really enjoyed the show.

  • Terrible venue for Q&A

    by Rosanna on 5/9/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 2 out of 5

Clearly this was not a well thought through event. We went to the upper level and couldn’t hear a thing so we made our way to the main level. During Q&A, they didn’t offer a roaming microphone so audience members had to yell their question and Fran couldn’t hear so we spent most of the hour with Fran yelling “what? I can’t hear you. You can’t all speak at the same time, then I can’t hear anyone” - this was the crux of the one-hour Q&A. To the organizers, a couple of microphones in the hallway so people can walk up to ask questions would have been a really simple and cheap solution. We paid over 100$ per ticket, would never do it again. Love Fran but this was honestly the worst event I’ve ever been to

  • Amazing speaker - Terrible sound

    by K. on 5/9/22Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste - MontréalRating: 4 out of 5

This speaker is amazing and you should invite her more often. However, the sound quality of the whole evening was awful. It was difficult to hear her (too much echo with the microphone) and there was no microphone for the questions, so much of the time was lost in screaming repetitions. Such a shame...
