About

John Cusack’s breakout role came as a member of the geek squad in John Hughes’ Sixteen Candles (1984). That film propelled the actor, producer and screenwriter into the role of the iconic, boombox-bumping Lloyd Dober in Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything (1989). In the ’90s and ’00s, Cusack's Hollywood star continued to rise with roles like the hitman in 1997’s Grosse Pointe Blank and the list-obsessed record store owner in High Fidelity (2000), which earned Cusack a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Whether starring in action movies or fantasy comedies, Cusack has remained relatable and charmingly eccentric. It’s this same energy that he brings to “An Evening with John Cusack,” which features the actor touring the country and screening the films that have made him one of Gen X’s favorite actors.

A fun evening with fans of 80s classics and guest

    by JRod on 6/30/23

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had never been to a movie showing which included a guest speaker/actor. Being a fan of John Hughes movies and John Cusack’s career how could it be bad? I never had the opportunity to enjoy 16 Candles in the theaters. I still technically haven’t, sadly. This was my only issue with the evening, screen not big enough and audio left something to be desired. Aside from that the experience was immersive being surrounded by people who grew up on this movie and loved it as much as me if not more. All of us late 40’s to 50-something’s were transported back to our youth where we first met Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, and the guest of honor John Cusack. I hadn’t seen this movie in years but amongst the crowds of fans we all reacted. We laughed, we cheered, we spoke the lines before they were spoken. It was truly a joyful experience filled with nostalgia. John Cusack made it even more magical. He was open, warm, endearing, and down to earth. I was impressed with how willing he was to answer all the questions and floored by his patience. I had to leave early, but Cusack carried on answering questions from the literal peanut gallery. It’s true his role in the movie was small but you could see the potential. I love this movie so showing this movie in a theater-like setting was an instant draw. I hope LiveNation creates more of these events in the future.

Great screening maybe less audience Q&A

by Sol on 6/29/23713 Music Hall - Houston

The screening was wonderful. 713 is a great venue and it was lovely to rewatch such a great film on a big screen with a big audience. John was wonderful and very kind and patient with audience questions. I was reminded though that audience Q&A is usually not so great as people are mega fans, which is lovely, but it's mostly fawning and some quite silly questions. The moderator's questions were wonderful and John added some fun bits in there. Was great to learn more about him, his experience with the film and his career. I wish they'd done a pre-show Q&A submission and then asked him to see what he'd like to answer (they did this when I went to a meet and greet for Dermot Kennedy and it made all the difference). I'd have given it 5 stars but for majority of audience Q&A. A great night out overall.

by HemiSam on 6/28/23713 Music Hall - Houston

The venue was good. The movie was great. The Q&A was pretty good but could have been a bit better hence four stars. I'm such a huge fan it was a treat to see the man in person.

Fun night with John Cusak and High Fidelity!

    by S. V. on 6/28/23713 Music Hall - Houston

My husband and I were supposed to go but he had forgotten he had purchased soccer tix for the same night, so I took our 14 yo daughter. I can’t believe I had never seen High Fidelity before!! Wow, what a great movie, lots of laughs and even my daughter said he was hot back then lol When John came out on stage, he was unrecognizable in a ball cap and dark clothing. At first, his answers were short, nervous, awkward but seemed he warmed up quickly to our Houston welcome as many of the people asking questions graciously started off by saying thank you so much for coming to Houston. We all gave a resounding Awwww when after about an hour the MC said that’s all the time he had. Mr. Cusak answered a lot of questions honestly and he seems down to earth and like he could be anyone’s friend. I’d def go see him again. But he did say they didn’t tell him what movie they were showing which I thought was odd. He’d be better prepared for questions?? Say Anything is my favorite movie so I’d love to hear him speak to that though he did talk about filming the boom box scene in one take.

    John cusack is awesome :)

by Bekah on 6/28/23713 Music Hall - Houston

John cusack screening & the q&a was dope. I only have feedback for the venue. Y'all should have more comfortable seating, more snack options, and maybe sell some swag.

    Could have been better

by GenXer on 6/28/23713 Music Hall - Houston

This show was definitely geared to a 70s/80s baby. I am a fan of Cusak and all his films - and this was a great event for those Super Fans. I have mixed feelings about the program and format. You start with a showing of one of the films - apparently he covers different movies in different cities. After the film, a local radio/tv celebrity is the moderator for a fireside chat. No intro, no background on the film - just sitting down with John Cusak to answer mainly audience questions. There were a couple of questions from the moderator, but nothing informative - just chit chat. There are no prepared material which would have been nice with John having some prepared remarks and details about the movie - maybe telling us a little about how they started the project - any fun anecdotes about filming, script, or fellow actors. From the audience questions, answers are hit or miss. Like High Fidelity has a running commentary about "Top 5" - films, songs, moments......he was asked multiple times about his Top 5 - and he really couldn't answer that - and said he was bad at it. I mean - doing this across country, you should be prepared for that question. He was able to answer his favorite Top 5 Cusak films, but that's about it. He is very humble and personable, but did I really learn anything - no. I thought it was lacking in content. Enjoyed it because I like the movie - but I was hoping for more.

High Fidelity Screening with John Cusack

by AMA1977 on 6/28/23713 Music Hall - Houston

We really enjoyed this show!! Seeing the movie again on the big screen was so fun; I had forgotten how much I loved the music and the performances. John Cusack was very gracious and engaged with the audience during the Q&A session. I would definitely, definitely attend other events of this nature in the future. It was a great, nostalgic Gen X experience.

    Unique and Interesting Experience

by Kelly on 6/28/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The good: it was cool that people were so into the movie. I loved seeing John afterwards and hearing him answer some interesting questions. The bad: they didn't have parking close by and it was SUPER hot outside. It was hard to understand the words of the movie at times. The theater just isn't very optimal for movie audio I think. And so many people had questions so, half of the people got turned away. I just wanted a hug. :) But all in all, cool experience. Cool dude. Timeless movie.
