David Gray on Tour

David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.

David Gray in Concert

English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

  • An amazing concert!

by Cuckoo on 2/5/25The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

David Gray’s performance here in Chicago was nothing short of magical! He performed for two solid hours, playing his new music as well as all our favorites. My fourth time seeing him and definitely my favorite of his concerts. The Chicago Theatre was the perfect venue.

  • David was Great!

by Micky C on 2/5/25The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Again, David was great! A quality well tuned sound system. The tour needs a new scenic and lighting designer. The limitations on a one truck tour does not limit what can be done creatively. The American public has forgotten that buying a concert ticket does not entitle you to talk through and over an artist's performance. Go to f'n Starbucks if you want to hold a sewing circle Again David was great with a dynamic crowd engaging performance

  • 100% authentic

by Sg on 2/4/25Rating: 5 out of 5

I loved David Gray’s White Ladder back in the day. Ever since I reconnected with his music for his 2025 show at the Anthem…blown away! His new music speaks to me. And his old songs while just as relevant take me back to a wonderful time in my youth. His voice, story, and authenticity are even better in person. Thanks for making it across the pond. Please come back again!

David has an amazing and powerful voice. Truly an incredible voice! David writes songs that live inside our minds and hearts. The band is perfect and spot on all the time. My fifth time to observe his talented group of musicians!! More than ever David spoke to us about his emotional journey with his father and his passing. He is such a warm and relaxed person who can dance like rock star, Thank the universe for David Gray and his band. I love him.

  • Brilliant show spoiled by a few selfish people

by AlfieNourkes on 2/3/25Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

When you go see an artist as brilliant as David Gray and his fantastic band, you're there to hear the music and the stories he tells between songs. Unfortunately, some yahoos sitting near us found it necessary to talk loudly throughout the show. They even yakked through David's touching story about his dying dad. No class, no respect, and no consideration for other people's experience. Other than that, the music, the sound, the songs were exceptional! A true artist! Five stars!

  • Awesome, as usual

Fifth time seeing David Gray, and as usual he was awesome. Great track selection combining new songs with songs from White Ladder and Life in Slow Motion.

  • ENGAGING

by SCOTTY on 2/1/25Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 5 out of 5

I thought he was very good. I really enjoyed him and he was very engaging and quite funny. I had seen him at Count Basie before and he wasn't near as engaging as he was this time. I didn't like his opening act. I felt that her voice was ok but at times it seemed like she was drowned out by the sounds and she also seemed like she was lip synching . I don't feel that it's necessary for him to have an opening act. I have one issue. I went out to buy refreshments and when I returned to go sit down. I was forced to wait. I felt like I was at a Broadway show where you have to wait in between acts. I didn't like it because that normally isn't a practice there and I have nowhere to put the stuff down. I mean I don't mind waiting for a song but I pay good money to sit down and enjoy the show. I don't really know the difference since there are always alot of people that constantly get up and to me that is more of a distraction. I also don't like when people are constantly texting on their phones while there is a show going on. I do mind if they periodically take pictures or footage of some songs but I can't stand when they spend the whole show texting because it gives off a certain amount of light and it is rude and distracting. That's it Thanks

  • David Gray-once again!

A true entertainer who loves his audience and receives the love back from the crowd! You could feel the energy and excitement in the room David shows he is human with tech issue but laughs and carries on His music is timeless, loved every moment!!!

  • Been loving him since "Babylon"

by Moproryan on 2/1/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I attend all of his NYC concerts. They are so good and this one on February 28, 2025, was no exception. We had GREAT seats in the orchestra which enhanced our experience. David was warm, personal, energetic, reflective, and achingly honest. He told us a story about his father's passing that had my husband in tears. You feel like you're one of his friends. The music from his newest album and the favorites from the past were delightful. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you, David (and his drummer, the amazing Clune!)!

  • Great gig and top theatre

  • Great mix of old and new

by Karen on 2/1/25Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 4 out of 5

David Gray has been at it for many years… that is good for us! He has a large catalog to choose from at a concert. With a new album out it is a delicate mix. You want to showcase your new work but the audience wants to connect through the classics. David did a good job.

  • A mesmerizing evening, David Gray at the Beacon Theatre!

by Muffy NYC on 2/1/25Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

A powerful, moving, and downright brilliant show! David Gray performing at this historic venue with its Roman and Greek architecture was pure magic. His beautiful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and epic song medleys transported me back to decades ago when I first saw him. He stole my heart then and again at Beacon Theatre! It was my birthday and I couldn’t have had a better gift!

  • A fantastic performer, songwriter.
