David Gray on Tour
David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.
David Gray in Concert
English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

Great concert, unfortunately the seating was poor blocking view of concert. If you had a bar stool chair you had a much better view, than sitting in a chair.
I love the acoustics at the Fox. David Gray was phenomenal. Long set, great setlist, fantastic energy. This concert was amazing.
He was an energetic showman. He played a wide range of new to favoured old album hits. The lighting was great, sound was good. Even in the top balcony the performance view and sound was enjoyable and the lighting had great effect.
This was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. The sound was second to none, David sounded unreal live. Even better than I was expecting. He played almost every single song of his that I love. Everything about this show was top notch.
Loved the show, the venue, the energy of all the performers. The drummer was amazing!!! I love David Gray’s performances.
A great play list, his voice was wonderful and I loved hearing the familiar old harmony back. Love, love, love David Gray; it seems when I am having a difficult period of time, David releases a new album, too sooth me.
Ticketmaster service was excellent, David Grey was exceptional
After all of the years of singing his hits, David Gray still sounds great! He started off with newer songs, but worked into all of his all time favorites that had the crowd participating. The only complaint was the light show. The back drop lighting was cool, but they used a projector for moving bubbles on the side walls out in the audience, so there were often direct lights shining straight into your eyes. Many times I had to shut my eyes as it was so annoying. They should keep the focus on the singer on stage.Otherwise, great show, well worth it!
The lights from behind the stage were shining into the audience’s eyes so much I saw red spots in my vision. It also made seeing the performance and band very difficult. Occasional lights on the audience are fine but this is the first show I’ve attended where it was a constant thing.
David was spectacular at the Beacon 0n 1/28/25. From his solo ballads to his full band compositions the show did not disappoint.
What can I say except bravo to David and the band. His vocals were incredible and the band was cooking. Lots of old songs with some new sprinkles in. Personally is was a great show and fun time.
State Theatre is a perfect venue, small enough to feel like you're up close. The sound is amazing, and David Gray was fantastic, as usual! Can't beat seeing him at Red Rocks but was still a great show!
Fabulous time. Great venue … can’t get his music out of my head.
This was our third David Grey show. They have all been a little different , quite the performances always heartfelt 100% effort - amazing shows . Old school class !!! Can't wait for next tour !
This concert was great. He played a good mix of the classic favorites and music from his new album. If you go be sure you've listened to the new music ahead of time so you can enjoy that more as well! I would 100% see David Gray again.
David is an artist and a fantastic performer. Really enjoyed the attention he paid to each song and how it was played. A bit of conversation before a few songs made it feel all the more intimate. If you are a fan you have to see him in concert - if you're not you will have a great time regardless!
Good energy with great music. His intermittent story telling about where the songs came from was value add.
Chicago Theatre was so beautiful, and SO nice that there are so many concessions/bars - short wait lines! David Gray is one of our all-time favs, and of course he did not disappoint. Ticket prices reasonable too.
This is the fourth time we've seen David Gray. He was energetic, conversational, humorous and genuinely seemed so glad to be back on the road. Great mix of old favorites and the new album. Highly recommend seeing this show, he does not disappoint.
Amazing live performer!! Saw David live 20 years ago and he’s still as good if not better!! 💕
