About

David Gray on Tour

David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.

David Gray in Concert

English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

Getting thru the tobacco stench is the hardest part. Venue is good and David was Great. I think a door close to the venue would be perfect

Oh, David Gray, you continue to warm the hearts and souls of your audience as much as ever! New songs mixed with the old… all so good! And your drummer is amazing and so fun to watch. The entire band had us all standing and wanting more. Can’t wait to see you again.

David Gray was VERY entertaining, as always, and played the whole spectrum of his music. They played for 90 minutes and did 4 encore songs!

Can't say enough good stuff. Great venue, great audience, excellent opening performance ( Sierra Spirit ). David Gray put on a show that was AMAZING ! His style, his songwriting & his connection with the audience were incredible. Don't want to sound like a cliché, but it could possibly be my favorite concert ever. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Amazing!!

I have seen David Gray now 6 times and he never disappoints. His music is timeless and the lyrics are pure poetry. As long as he performs, count me in!

  • Loved David. Didn't love the venue.

by KW on 2/18/25Harrah's Resort SoCal - The Events Center - Valley CenterRating: 5 out of 5

David was amazing, as always. Great mix of new songs, classics & the hits (though I wish he would do "Ain't no Love"). The venue was AWFUL. Better to play one of the smaller San Diego theaters than a casino. Pretty much anywhere would be better than the casino. But still a wonderful concert.

  • Awesome concert

by David on 2/18/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert. We got the meet and greet package and we were impressed on how well organized everything went. We got to take a picture with him. Of course the concert started on time and lasted for very two hours, singing the old hits as well as the new material.

  • Ah-mazing!!!

by Greydoggirl on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Top tier experience at Orpheum in LA on Valentine's Day. David and band in peak form, sounded wonderful and just so pro...David said they had re-commited to really being in the moment with the music and audience, and that really shined through. This man, who is the same age as me, did not even take a sip of water! Even the lighting was special and beautiful. There are shows you feel you paid too much for (looking at you, Indigo Girls) and then a show like this where you cannot believe you got the privilege and had the experience. ❤️

  • Tremendous Talented - Real Artist

    by MCF7 on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

So happy I got tickets! Excellent performances from all on stage. David Gray is a class act and sounded great.

  • It was intoxicating. No one performs like him.

by Goldenbear on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

No one looks or acts are performed the way he does his commitment. It’s almost like I said, intoxicating you watch and you’re there with him. I tried to mimic the way he turns his head amazing the voice of the birds the way he plays the way they all play. It was a gorgeous night. My wife and I were very happy. Happy Valentine’s Day and thank you for telling us the stories. Thank you so much.

  • David was spectacular. Hope he come back soon.

  • Skip the Orpheum

by LynnT on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Although aesthetically pleasing, and great viewing from my balcony seating, there was NO LEGROOM. I'm 5' 10", however, my friend is 5' 5", and even she was unable to cross her legs, and there is no room to stretch you legs out in front of you. My knees are still recuperating 3 days later. Additionally, the stairs in the balcony are very steep, not evenly spaced, and there is no railing to hold onto. The seat backs are to low to use to steady yourself. We witnessed several "almost"falls and many people needed assistance. The aisle number/letter is placed at the back of the chair arm and very difficult to locate. The sound for the first performance was horrible. David Gray, the headliner was Great!!!!

Better than fantastic. Fabulous. Huge energy. Great performance. Wish I could put it in repeat.

  • Outstanding, as usual.

by Kroner on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

3rd time seeing him. Truth be told I know he just came out with a brand new CD, album, whatever the heck you call them these days so I was a little bit fearful that he was going to play too much stuff off his new album that I might not like and not enough of the old hits, but it was an actually perfectly blended concert of new and old. His new stuff was very, very nice and his old was fantastic as always. I’ve been to a million concerts and I can always tell when a band is phoning it in and it was evident that they were all happy to be there and it was just a great show. What else can I say?

  • David Gray! WOW!

by JMAC on 2/17/25Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

One of my favorite concerts of all time. It helps when you sit front row center too. David was on top of his game as usual. Can't say enough about this experience.

  • Fantastic!!

by Kat on 2/13/25Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

David Gray was fantastic as usual. This is my 3rd time seeing him and he did not disappoint. He played for 2 hours and gave it 200%. His music is so good but on top of that he is a great performer and really engages with the audience! I hope he comes back soon!

  • DG at his finest

    by Herbie W on 2/13/25Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

David Gray and his band were absolutely phenomenal! His (and the band's) vocals and performance was simply amazing! Everyone was having a blast on stage...One of the best shows I've ever been to. Will definitely see him again!

  • Excellent as always

by JenShorts on 2/13/25Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

David sounds superb, his band is top notch, he covered tracks from the new album, but also a couple covers, and all the old favorites so people could sing along. I didn’t care for the opener. Sarah Spirit. Formulaic girl singer with girl accompanying on rhythm guitar and a track of the rest of the band behind them. Meh. I go to hear live music to hear live music, not for you to push a button and start your drum track and all the other instruments that aren’t there.
