David Gray on Tour

David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.

David Gray in Concert

English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

It was a beautiful summer night, right by the lake, we enjoyed a great performance by David Gray, he’s wonderful and the crowd was into it. The staff was awesome too, very friendly and helpful. Food and drink selection was decent. Extra credit to the bbq guys. Prices all around were high but what’s cheap these days?

  • Worth the 2 year wait

Its a pity the show was not full but this experience made it unique - we basically had our own row to stand and dance and sing. David performed all of White Ladder as well as a smattering of older and newer songs, a few hits and covers. David sounded great. Looks like he had a great time. And the audience did too. Perhaps I sang to every lyric. And Live Nation did a fine job of helping folks move up rows to get an optimal viewing of this very, very good show.

David Gray gave a enthusiastic performance and played all of his best songs plus the entire White Ladder Album. The waterfront venue was great which only added to the experience.

David's performance did not disappoint! He and his band were on point, great visuals and an (mostly) awesome venue. The restriction on bag sizes and being turned away at the gate is ridiculous! I was coming from my office and had my small shoulder bag containing my laptop. Being turned away and forced to check it in a locker was not a good start to the evening. We now know that covid is not anthrax and the electronic only tickets, cash only vendors is getting old in addition to the bags policies.

  • Phenomenal performance and venue!

  • My mom and I absolutely loved the show!!

by Megan on 7/20/22Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to nearly 1000 concerts and this was on my top 10. The venue was great, the crowd was wonderful, and David Gray put on one hell of a show. I think he did six encores!! The place was full of positive energy. It was the first concert my mom has been to besides Tina Turner 25 years ago and when I took her to see David Gray in Detroit years ago. She got her first concert T-shirt that she could wear (lost weight), which she were two days in a row. It was such a wonderful experience. Oh, and the prices for the memorabilia was very reasonable. Thank you, David Gray, for the effort you put into making this a great experience. We love you and can’t wait to see you again.

Show was fantastic! The lighting...the music...his interaction with the crowd. Just all around awesome. I am definitely a fan of David Gray. Another thing I am a fan of is Nautica Center for summer concerts. Nice small venue right on the water. Love the outdoor concerts there every year. Nice evening in THE LAND!

  • Amazing Concert & Venue

by Stacey L on 7/20/22Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

The entire concert experience was so much fun! David Gray's music is beautiful, and he sounded incredible! Jacob's Pavilion is such a great venue - intimate with the city of Cleveland as its backdrop and surrounded by historic buildings and bridges. The Gen X crowd was refreshing - as expected, people were calm and cool minding their own business and having fun. No one was griping at others to sit down or be quiet when others were dancing and singing. It really was so much fun, and we will plan to see David Gray again!

  • Excellent show. Fun evening. Great crowd. Great evening.

Down in the Flats,on the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, the band and crowd hit a good stride early and the place got electric coming off of the intermission. Highly recommend David Gray and his band. We waited a long time for the show due to Covid reschedules but it made it all the more enjoyable….Cleveland Rocks!

  • Awesome. Start to finish!

  • David is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy!

The venue was great. Not a bad seat. If you go early make a reservation and or go across the river where there are more options. We got kinda stuck eating bar food which was awesome nonetheless but for sit down I needed to plan better.
