David Gray on Tour
David Gray can captivate an entire sold-out stadium with just his voice and a guitar, pulling at every listener's heartstrings with each emotional hook. The singer-songwriter grew comfortable on the stage starting out in the early 1990s touring around the UK, Ireland and the US. Within a few years, Gray's audiences grew significantly, especially when he started opening for groups like Radiohead and the Dave Matthews Band. But it wasn't until he went independent and released the album White Ladder in 1998 that Gray began getting the recognition he deserved. He ended up performing at the popular Glastonbury Festival in 1999, and eventually made it to the main stage in 2003. He's since toured the world extensively, selling out dates from the US to Europe to Australia, as he continues to expand his impressive catalog of songs.
David Gray in Concert
English singer-songwriter David Gray has enjoyed a strong, steady career composing some of music's most understated - and underrated - melodies. Gray was born in Sale, Cheshire, in North West England, in 1968, but moved to Wales with his family as a young boy. There, he started dabbling in music, playing in local punk bands as a teenager. He then headed back to England to attend the Liverpool College of Art (whose alumni include John Lennon), and began honing his songwriting skills. After graduation, he relocated to London to pursue a solo career and was quickly signed to Hut Records in 1992. He then released his debut single, "Birds Without Wings," followed by his 1993 debut album, A Century Ends, which captures a young Gray finding and forming his fierce, folk-inspired style. His next two albums, Flesh and Sell, Sell, Sell, brought some extra attention - especially in Ireland - but failed to reach a wider audience across the pond. He decided to go DIY for his fourth album, White Ladder, which he recorded in his London apartment and self-released in 1998. This decision proved to be more than wise: Dave Matthews then released the album on his brand-new ATO Records in 2000, and the single "Babylon" shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. The album has since been certified platinum a jaw-dropping 10 times. Over the following decade, Gray would continue to experiment, weaving in electronic touches while maintaining his signature heartfelt acoustic style. His 2005 album, Slow Motion, debuted at the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK, while his 2009 release, Draw the Line, featured notable appearances from Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. In the next decade, Gray would slow down a bit, releasing his 10th studio album, Mutineers, in 2014, before returning in 2019 with Gold in a Brass Age, both released on his own IHT Records.

Doesn’t get any better! David Gray is one of the best performers alive.
Great venue - show much rich history - Amazing venue with flawless sound and not a bad seat in the house. We were in Balcony 1 row A and the experience didn’t disappoint.
Concert was excellent. They never disappoint!!! Only thing is he spent time singing other people's music (Tainted Love & a couple Bowie songs) that he could have spent singing more of HIS songs. I would have preferred to hear just David Gray music - heaven knows he has enough original music! LOVE him and his band! That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
Great live performance and the Greek Theatre in Berkeley was really nice
The event was held on a beautiful evening. Parking was plentiful and everyone was in a great mood. The setlist was exactly as advertised and played beautifully. Many of David's songs sound even better live, with a very high level of performance. A couple of things were odd, however. First, the concert started an hour later than stated on the tickets with no opening act to fill the gap. For some reason most people seemed to know this already, but we were a bit duped and sat idly drinking for a while..no biggie right? The other thing was the drummer change. After the first set they bring out a completely different drummer. Both drummers were great and again most people didn't seem to mind but for me it created a slight disconnect, especially with the tempo change. Nonetheless, the energy was sustained throughout the evening and I went home with a greater appreciation of Dave's music.
I have seen David Gray in concert 10+ times and he is amazing every time!
David has so much energy and pours great emotion into his music. We went for the 20th Anniversary of White Ladder. He played some of his favorite songs, then did the album in it's entirety. He even covered David Bowie Life on Mars as one of the encores! It was a lovely evening.
I have seen David Gray many times, and this was the best yet! I do not take awary from any past performances, but I was blown away by the talent of David Gray. He gave us a beautiful show!
He gave everything he had and made sure everybody there was having a good time. Well worth it!
David Gray and his band members delivered a superb concert at Berkeley’s Greek Theater on 7/29/2022. Very professionally done, exquisitely choreographed, passionately delivered from the heart. David’s voice was awesome. Such a wonderful experience that should be appreciated by so many more people.
David Gray is an amazing artist, when he performs live, he really livens the stage up! Full of energy, and a fantastic voice, keeps us all captivated! Loved seeing him at the Cal Coast Open Air Amphitheater, which was a perfect venue for him.
David was the best I have ever heard him, which is saying a lot. The sound was clear and every song was nailed. One of the best concert experiences I have ever had. White Ladder is an amazing album and he was on fire this night.
What a wonderful experience. Venue was awesome. David Gray’s showmanship and connection with his fans is very special. Best concert I’ve been to ever. His music and tonality is unique. I’m thinking about flying out to see his concert again in another city!
Beautiful experience first time seeing David grey. Beautiful location, he sounded phenomenal, and it was beyond amazing. Easy process getting tickets and getting into facility. Love it, thank you so much!
Ticketmaster time on the website is when the gate opens not when the show starts.
Loved David Gray’s voice his talented band. His wonderful stories. True entertainer.
Cat-chewed, moldy tickets from 2020 were finally redeemed on Sunday night at SDSU’s Open Air Theatre. Mr. Gray & Company were in fine form for an appreciative audience that could not get enough of what he was deftly delivering. It was as if he missed us as much as we missed him. It began with assorted gems from his body of work, but the star of the show was White Ladder, his spot-on musical account of life, love, loss and redemption. We celebrated the 20th anniversary of this perfect album and sang along, danced in our seats, and laughed and cried until we were drenched in all that splendor and humidity. Finishing off with a shout-out to Soft Cell (Tainted Love) and an homage to David Bowie (Is There Life on Mars?) left us nostalgic and grateful. It was a perfect evening.
The fans in my area (6th row AAA) couldn't experience the brilliant performance without constant chattering and phone activity (including outgoing calls). It was very distracting. Next time I'll see David Gray at a venue with more considerate fans that don't behave like children obsessed with TikTok.
I love this venue. David Gray sounded amazing and his performance was top notch!
Loved the concert. How does this guy age without losing anything from that voice? Loved how he played the whole White Ladder album after the break. The music and his skills to get the audience Involved were outstanding. Glad I went.
