About

CATS is the longest running musical in Broadway history, debuting in 1982 and finally closing on Broadway in September, 2000. Written by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Weber (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera) and based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this musical still remains a favorite with audiences nationwide. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn. "Memory," the show's most memorable song (sung by the character Grizabella) quickly became a pop vocal favorite and has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow and Judy Collins. The show's appeal also appears to be universal, as it has been translated into over 20 languages. As time and ticket sales have proven, CATS is undoubtedly one of the most beloved stage musicals of all time.

The actors were absolute amazing athletes and the venue was okay. The musical itself was just simply weird.

    Bravo

Except for falling down the stairs of the event center, it was excellent. I have watched the live performance twice and watched it on. T.V. when I got home.

This is ( I think ) my 5th time I've seen CATS. The first time was in London in early 80's. There were definitely some highlights with this production. Great dancing. Beautiful vocals by Taylor Harris ( Grizabella) Her tone, clarity and especially the expressiveness she brought to the solo, Memories was a standout. Kade Wright as Munkustrap was in command: strong voice, great articulation singing and speaking. Michelle Carter as Jennyanydots had a great tap dancing solo number, the drawback was she had a particular facial expression she used over and over, it was effective at first, after awhile heavy handed. ( Same for Rum tum Tigger, Hank Santos who was great by the way, used his tongue as part of his facial expression/ character, funny at first, after awhile he needed to change it up. A few of the cast members were stronger dancers than they were singers. The last time I saw CATS was at the Pantages a few years ago -- the costumes with that production were more sophisticated, the 'fur', the detail on the costumes gave them an elegance. With this company, the costumes were not as developed. At times it appeared that the dancers were concentrating on their routines and blocking to the extent that they didn't add the cat-like behaviors I've seen in other productions, licking, grooming, playing with their "paws", tail -- all of that adds to the fun of the show - the hisses seem more like a jazz hands hiss than actually trying to imitate a cat. All in all the level of dancing and Taylor Harris, who had the audience crying because of her emotional delivery, made it a worthwhile evening.

Great dancing and costumes. Set was nice. Main voices were great! My only comment is that I didn't understand any of the words when everyone sang.

Different experience from seeing it in 90’s when I just enjoyed the music and dancing. Now there were questions about the plot even from my 5 year old granddaughter. Thought the cast was great and love Andrew Lloyd Weber score.

    In tune!

by LAjazz on 5/16/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

I missed certain parts of the show this production did not do with the production teams i've seen before. I wish cast members came out to lobby at end to say hi. I wanted to compliment them! Everyone was in tune! Great singers. The 2 males hosts of the show - they were fantastic and so much energy - perfect singing. Orchestra was too fast in the intro music, needed to slow down a tad. also, the climbing notes up to Memory's "Touch me, it's so easy to leave me" drags out way too long and upsets the climax. needs to be quicker.

The show itself was amazing. The theater is a good size with a decent amount of space to walk through the aisles. Would definitely see cats again and go to this theater.

    Awesome!

by Andria on 5/15/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

I had never seen Cats before and this production did not disappoint. The singing and dancing were phenomenal and the sets and lighting were spectacular. This was just as good as anything I've seen at the Pantages but without all the hassle of driving to Hollywood and parking. My husband who hates musicals loved it too!

CATS was perfect. The best show ever.

by Roy on 5/10/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

The best show ever. Artistry in excellence. The music, the scenery, the athleticism, the costumes, the dances, etc. Perfection! It was so funny because I'm a huge CATS fan/geek that I knew everything about the show and scenery on stage and I was nosy looking at the stage floor, too. The slant and images on it and even the license plate. 😹

by Kally on 5/10/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

Loved using the Ticketmaster mobile app. It was super easy to use and gave the option of sending your party the tickets. I saw Cats in the early 80's and enjoyed it just as much in the 2020's. The singing and dancing were out of this world and the Plaza Theatre in El Paso has the best acoustics.
