About

CATS is the longest running musical in Broadway history, debuting in 1982 and finally closing on Broadway in September, 2000. Written by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Weber (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera) and based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this musical still remains a favorite with audiences nationwide. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn. "Memory," the show's most memorable song (sung by the character Grizabella) quickly became a pop vocal favorite and has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow and Judy Collins. The show's appeal also appears to be universal, as it has been translated into over 20 languages. As time and ticket sales have proven, CATS is undoubtedly one of the most beloved stage musicals of all time.

    Cats was amazing!

by KRISTYK on 7/30/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Highlights included costumes, singing, dancing, and the set! (that pretty much says it all). One thing that was interesting to me was the opportunity to see the "pit singers". The seats that I sat in allowed me to learn about these incredible performers and how they give extra mileage and quality to the performance. The orchestra and the pit singers should always get some sort of recognition! (Be it a bow, or friendly reminder from the stage cast members)

by Grace0221 on 7/28/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The performance was great! Cat walks & the moves were just like cats... and the old lady cat who sing the memory -- her voice was just too beautiful.

by pnpBlueBelle on 7/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I brought my 11 year old and 8 year old daughters to see the musical and they both thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I. I was really looking forward to the song "Memory" and I was not disappointed.

    Just spectacular

by PDForever on 7/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Everything from the dancing, choreography, music, voices, costumes and audience interaction was spectacular. This is the second time I have seen "Cats" (my fiance's first), and this one was much better than the first time around. I would recommend this to everyone that has not seen this record-breaking stage production and to those who want to give it one more look. The Cabrillo Music Theatre is the best. I hope they bring back "Smokey Joe's Cafe" in the near future.

    CATS

by LMNO on 7/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

i THOUGHT THE PLAY STORYLINE WAS BORING AND DISCONNECTED. THE FIRST ACT DRAGGED. A LOT OF THE SONGS WORDS WERE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. DANCING WAS GENERALLY VERY GOOD. COSTUMING WAS GOOD. SOLOISTS WERE VERY GOOD ESPECIALLY THE GIRL WHO SANG MEMORY. HER SECOND TIME AT SINGING IT WAS WONDERFUL. I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE PLAY AND WAS DISSAPOINTED AS WERE THE PEOPLE WHO WERE WITH ME. NONE OF US HAD SEEN THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION SO WE HAD NO COMPARISONS.

    cats put me to sleep!

by Iluvtheater2009 on 7/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I was very excited to see the play, I even invited friends from out of town and purchased their tickets for them. before intermission, we were all fighting to stay awake! The set was boring and didn't change, all the dances had the same flavor and didn't stand out from one another, the songs were difficult to understand when the entire cast sang together, and the play didn't have a strong story line or anything that endeared ourselves to any particular character...it was actually very dark...we wanted it to be uplifting. Overall, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY TO SEE CAT'S!!!!!!!!

    CATS

by KDMACHIN on 7/26/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

My daughter Amy, 3 year old granddaughter Kasey and myself Mema went to this show. It was my granddaughters 1st time to the theater.. She sat mesmerized through the beginning and pointing at the actors saying "They're looking at me!" In the second half she decided to get up and dance to the music. This was an extremely memorable day for us that we will never forget. Pictures were taken so that "Kasey" will always have keepsakes for her first trip to the theater. There will be many more in our future. Thanx so much for this wonderful day. A big thank you from my little red headed granddaughter also! I would also like to give a big thank you to the two wonderful people who took our pictures.

Cats at TO Civic Arts Plaza

by CMRLB on 7/26/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality of the Cats production presented by Cabrillo Music Theatre at the TO Civic Arts Plaza. The quality of singing, dancing and music was outstanding. My children loved the "after show" presentation in which they could meet and greet the performers and production crew, ask questions and learn more about musical theatre. I thought this would be a "community production," but wow! It was FABULOUS! For my 8-year daughter who has been dancing for 5 years, it allowed her to enjoy her art through watching others.
