About

CATS is the longest running musical in Broadway history, debuting in 1982 and finally closing on Broadway in September, 2000. Written by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Weber (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera) and based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this musical still remains a favorite with audiences nationwide. CATS tells the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who assemble for their annual junkyard ball where they announce the cat that will be reborn. "Memory," the show's most memorable song (sung by the character Grizabella) quickly became a pop vocal favorite and has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow and Judy Collins. The show's appeal also appears to be universal, as it has been translated into over 20 languages. As time and ticket sales have proven, CATS is undoubtedly one of the most beloved stage musicals of all time.

    Room for Improvement

by Timely T on 5/10/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

It is hard to not compare this show to the original CATS. The stage was the same throughout with the background looking a bit drab. Lighting was sufficient but often it was difficult to determine who was actually speaking/singing with an almost "where's Waldo" seek and find. I left feeling somewhat short of the experience I was anticipating. A little more initiative with the stage setting and lighting would have made a tremendous difference. I was disappointed overall.

    Best Play Ever!!

by Kiarah on 5/9/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this play - never got around to seeing it in California years ago:-( The cast was fantastic and did not miss a beat - I would have seen this play again had it stayed in town another weekend, that's how much I loved it! Extremely grateful to the Plaza Theater for bringing it to El Paso - can't wait to see more! To the entire cast of CATS - thank you, thank you, thank you - words cannot express what a great job all of you did =)

    Lease favirite cats.

by Jack on 5/9/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

Have seen Cats 6 times now, first was at the Winter Garden on Broadway. This oriduction was the least favorite. Either I am just tired of the show or this cast had some drawbacks. Still go see it if you get a chance, it's Cats!

    An expensive nap...

by CH on 5/9/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

That one star goes to the performers, who are talented, no doubt. The play, however, is boring. I fell asleep! I had read reviews but wanted to see for myself.

I loved it! I took my grandchildren, ages 11 and 8. They were not too impressed with Act 1, but they were WOW'd with Act 2.

    Excited!!

by Nina on 5/9/23The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

When my friend and I entered the plaza for our seat (easy to find plus the ushers were very helpful) just looking at the stage got us more excited. The music the singing of the story was wonderful. We laughed at some of the stories in the cats. Although the first half was put very nicely we thought the second hand went by fast. ☺️When Grizabella sang I heard her singing with heart, I found myself with tears and chills I truly enjoyed CATS. ♥️

    Watch where you sit!!!

by Theresa on 4/27/23Peabody Auditorium - Daytona Beach

We enjoyed the show as much as we could since our seats were in Orchestra row BB, section 1, seats 3 & 4. It would have been an awesome show except for all the people who kept going in and out of the auditorium. It was very distracting and shinned light in our eyes ALOT! We drove over a hour to get there and paid a lot of money for those seats. We would have appreciated a notice warning us so we could have opted to sit elsewhere. Never been to the Peabody before and will not return anytime soon as it ruined the show for us.

Outstanding poetry brought to the stage in dance & music! Creativity is over the top. The whole family loved it! Was able to enjoy it from the last rows of the balcony! I was worried about it no being as wonderful cause of the seats but it was fantastic!

    Cats Touring

by Gary A on 4/27/23Peabody Auditorium - Daytona Beach

Slightly scaled down version, only in the restraints of the touring theatre and size of orchestra, but the enthusiastic orchestra and cast more than make up for it. Great sound system and trust me the performers were heard and emotionally felt anywhere in the theatre. I can’t give enough props to the cast. They thoroughly enjoyed being there as much as the very appreciative audience was. More than enough stand out performances to elicit standing ovations throughout the show. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music and the show have not aged. As fresh as ever. I have seen the show in New York several times as well as the original tours. This was the most enthusiastic audience ever. I took a first timer and she was in love. If you love Cats or have never seen it. Go and enjoy.

    Surprisingly good

by Nina on 4/27/23Peabody Auditorium - Daytona Beach

I did not expect this production to be nearly as good as it was. The cast was very good. It was worth the cost of the ticket to hear Tayler Harris (Grizabella) in Act Ii as she brought me to tears with “Memory.” The dancing was outstanding. On the other hand, the sound system and/or technicians left much to be desired. It was nearly impossible to understand the words in the first act. The second was improved. All in all, however, it was a good play.

    Not what I expected

by Lo on 4/27/23Peabody Auditorium - Daytona Beach

The performers were really good, but I was really disappointed in the songs that were performed, the same songs were repeated over and over. I expected more music I recognized. It was hard to understand the story line also.

    Awesome!!

by Rces3 on 4/27/23Peabody Auditorium - Daytona Beach

The show was awesome! Everyone but their all into the performance. There was a few times the microphones were going out but that was not their fault.
