BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

The best concert I have ever been to. Not even close.

  • Missed a Band

by Dickster on 10/12/22Ting Pavilion - CharlottesvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Loved Brandi. Not that big on her opener mentee, though she may well be great one day. It was awesome that she gave us all of the music without making us plead for an encore. I wouldn’t be criticizing anything, but you asked.

  • A very memorable experience!

by Jason on 10/12/22Ting Pavilion - CharlottesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This was a very intimate show with Brandi performing solo for the most part on guitar or piano. Her wife and the opening act joined her for a song or two, but I especially enjoyed the stories behind the songs and the range of her career that was covered. This was my first time seeing Brandi live and it will certainly not be the last if I can help it!

  • Excellent show

by jwroton on 10/11/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I've waited a long time to see Brandi Carlile live and in-person and this show lived up to my expectations and more. As always, the sound at DPAC was excellent and contributed to an overall engaging performance. Brandi continually charmed the crowd and showed off her musical chops and tremendous voice. An intimate solo show with one the top musical talents performing today in a beautiful venue with great acoustics, what more could one ask for?

  • Magical!!

Brandi is a true gift to us and I cannot even begin to put into words how incredible her solo show was. Just her, her lyrics, her guitar and piano, sharing her humility and passion with us making for an intimate and unforgettable evening.

This was one of my all-time favorite concerts. The venue was the perfect size for an intimate, solo performance by such a talented, expressive artist. Perfect evening.

  • Fabulous

by Jenset on 10/10/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

From venue to Brandi’s stripped down solo performance - do AC’s seating and acoustics are second to none and Brandi’s voice was really showcased here. She even commented on the sound.

  • Brandi is one of the greatest vocalists of our time

by EB on 10/10/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This special show was a true experience. Brandi was solo - a guitar, a piano and that VOICE. It filled the room like nothing I’ve ever heard. Chills, new takes on her songs. Stories.

  • Extraordinary performance

by Martmanbaseball on 10/10/22DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

The talent of this amazing artist was on full display. There were songs that brought me to tears. Brandi was not a performer but an artist with every note a beautiful brush stroke. Truly one of the best concerts in my life.

  • Do Not Miss Her Tour!

    by J. K. on 10/8/22Rating: 5 out of 5

I saw Brandi Carlisle last night October 7, 2022 at Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) in Durham North Carolina. It was a solo & acoustic show. Her wife joined her on stage for a few songs. It was an EPIC show. Her stories, song writing, musicianship & voice are just so good! Grateful I got to see this performance. Looking forward to seeing her with her full band as well. The DPAC is always a great venue - as someone who works at another local venue in the area - I can say they are a class act! Thanks Brandi & DPAC

  • Great performance by Artist!/Venue not so much

by Donna Chick on 9/6/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Brandi Carlile was fantastic in every way possible. She’s a brilliant performer who genuinely enjoys performing which makes it that much better for her audience. I look forward to seeing her again. Being outside, the venue was blessed with a beautiful evening. However, I wish the chairs could have been placed closest to the stage with the people who choose to stand behind them. Because I’m not tall, it really was impossible to see Brandi.

  • Another Great Performance

by Bill on 9/5/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

She is developing into an exciting performer. She connects with her audience so naturally that she and the audience become one throbbing, singing entity. It was wonderful.

  • Show was fantastic, venue not so much

by Brandi IG Fan on 9/5/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi and the Indigo Girls rocked and put on one of the best shows I’ve seen! Show of a lifetime. While nice location at Thompsons Point, parking was a disaster since there wasn’t enough for a sold out show and had to walk a mile from a church parking lot. And a venue that big should provide seating! Food trucks were a nice touch.

  • One of the BEST concerts ever attended

by Nejclark on 9/5/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile at Thompsons Point in Maine was as close to a perfect concert as possible! The outside venu is great (except they need to 'terrace' the field a bit so that people standing in the back can see better) - loved the outside air, food trucks, beer/drink garden! And then there was no topping Brandi and the Indigo Girls rocking it out to an amazing high energy concert. I don't think I'm the only one who felt that way.. the whole crowd was joining in singing all the songs. BEST NIGHT EVER.

  • Love the music but not the venue

by BrownBull on 9/4/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the music But I was disappointed with the venue. They had a relatively small area for people with chairs and blanket which was behind the people standing so it made it difficult to see. Those in chairs were backed up into the food trucks. It was general admission and everyone paid the Sam price so we should have been able to sit where we wanted to.

  • Brandi ahow

by Jen on 9/3/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Parking was a nightmare We missed the opening act It would have been helpful to know the parking was filled before we drove down then we had to sit in traffic to get out There was no direction on where to parks Thank

  • Great Music. Awful venue.

by GREENWINGSNH on 9/3/22Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

All staff were nice and lines moves efficiently at the venue. There were some nice places to sit along the water but those are about the only good things about this venue. The area where people could bring chairs filled up fast and we (and everyone around us in line) we surprised to learn there was a limited number a BYO chairs allowed in the venue. The rest was standing room only. The demographic for this concert was not one inclined to stand for the next 5 hours but the layout was designed for only that if you wanted to see the performers. The standing area was dirt and some areas muddy. The food trucks were overwhelmed and the lines ridiculously long. The food was good and those vendors did their best but a couple additional food providers would have been good. The pavilion was barely used and could have been made for addition seating. There were trailers blocking the stage from potential waterside picnic areas and addition blanket or chair seating. The venue could be so much better rearranged and the Brandi Carlile crowd, even with the number of tickets sold being a known quantity, was overwhelming for this venue. Suggestions, 1. Sell less tickets or improve the layout (or better yet both). 2. Tell the ticket purchaser that BYO chair seating is limited ao people can plan on arriving as early as possible. The Indigo Girls and Brandi Carlile were brilliant ans the sound at the venue was decent.
