Madison Cunningham is a 26-year-old GRAMMY award-winning artist and songwriter
known for her "wonderfully tangled imagery and cutting self-awareness" (NPR). As a
guitarist, Madison has pushed the boundaries of a conventional singer-songwriter as
her "guitar work is both classic and wildly emotive, and her soaring vocals are pristine
and inspired" (Consequence). Madison first picked up a guitar at age seven, and by age
twelve was singing and performing alongside her five siblings in church. In her teenage
years, she met Tyler Chester who would later go on to be a close collaborator and
producer of several of Madison's projects including Who Are You Now (2019) which
Atwood Magazine described as "a guitar-driven record, full of twisting, meticulously
arranged parts and interlocking melodies. It's almost labyrinthine; you could get lost in
her swirling words."
Cunningham's latest effort, Revealer, won the GRAMMY for 'Best Folk Album.'
Revealer finds her working once again with producer Tyler Chester along with Mike
Elizondo and Tucker Martine. Written and recorded over all states of the pandemic,
Madison says, "To me, 'revealer' is the binding theme of the album. The hand that
slowly chips away at the mirror in which you see yourself and the world and replaces it
with the reflection that is most true." The album is "full of intricate musicianship,
alongside forthright observations" (All Music), intimations and hard truths - a self-portrait
of a young artist who is full of doubt and uncertainty yet bursting with exciting ideas
about music and life.

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing her play on stage at this smaller venue. Her voice, her lyrics, her guitar playing....magnifico!!!
Madison is one of my favorite new artists. I have seen her live in Seattle three times now and all of the performances were fantastic. Her voice is beautiful. Her guitar playing is inventive as well as technically excellent. Madison also is an amazing songwriter. Her 2023 Grammy Award was well deserved. It is obvious why John Mayer has Madison opening for the European leg of his “Solo” tour.
Best live singer I’ve heard! Imaginative, emotional perfection. A little bit too loud at times
What a great night! Relaxing venue that's just the right size to be able to see the performers. The show (opening act with Miya F. was a mix of up and down: rockin' tunes followed by absolutely gorgeous harmonies), and Madison Cunningham let loose with super high energy--more so than what I hear on her CDs--also tempered by her beautiful melodies and lyrics...and that voice!
First time seeing Madison Cunningham - she and the band put on an absolutely excellent show. Madison Cunningham has serious chops on the guitar an awesome voice and when she wants to let it rip she sure does. I would definitely recommend.
Great show from Madison (even without "Song in My Head" :)) and a geat opener in Bendigo Fletcher. Come to RVA next year, Madison!
The music from both bands was too loud for that small venue. One could not hear or understand the lyrics for many songs. We left a little early because our ears were ringing. That was disappointing, to say the least.
Madison is among the most creative skilled and talented musical artist of the last 50 years. History will prove me right. Her performance along with her band mates was world class and unbelievable in regards to it passion and precision. What was also unbelievable was how poor the sound reinforcement was. I don’t know what the deal is with this new fad in sound reinforcement to boost the bass frequencies 5 to 10 times greater than they should be but it was entirely a disservice to this world classed artist. Her incredible vocals were really only audible during her solo set but as soon as the bass and drums returned it was as if we were suddenly placed in the engine room of a large battleship. My placement in the room probably maximized this effect. I was front and center. But I’ve been listening to music, recording, engineering, and going to concerts for over 30 years so I’m not completely ignorant about sound presentation. I hope the rest of the venues on her tour present her sound in a more balanced and artist friendly way.
