BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • Brandi puts on the best show ever

by Jmatml on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Love love love Brandi Carlisle. Not only is she a wonderful singer but she’s a great performer. And the surprise guests! OMG. Wish we could have been to all three days.

  • Excellent Entertainer

    by Lori C on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Brandi live. She was an amazing entertainer along with writing really good songs. She had a string section that were amazing and added depth to the music. Great artists came out to see with her which was a bonus.

  • No clear direction

    by C. M. on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 1 out of 5

There are an unbelievable amount of staff guiding in vehicles for both parking and camping, but after that you’re on your own sadly. There is no clear direction as to how to get to the venue ( from camping) or what line is for what (lines are very long). Once inside, there’s no information as to where things are located ( lawn chair pick up, etc). And trying to find anyone who works for live nation, or who knows anything, once inside is impossible!! So frustrating and sours the experience. It’s as though Live Nation relies on old ancient secrets to be passed down from the elders who came before us. This was not my first time there by far, but may be my last. The acts were amazing!!! This revue has nothing to do with any of them.

  • More signs, please

by TET on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

The show was top notch, as always, but the venue REALLY needs signs. On the gate with entry times, in the parking area with arrows. In the venue leading to the seating area. It is so confusing.

  • Amazing!!

by Lisagene on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

The show was simply amazing. The sound was terrific! Just tons of great music from wonderful musicians along with a few surprise guests. The venue was super and smoothly operated and easy to get into, parking was free for the concert, and all of the venue employees were helpful and kind. And the music!!! Just wow!!

  • How could it get any better?

by BethB on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I love Brandi now and have loved her since long before she became famous--I kept waiting and hoping for her to be discovered, and she was! I know that she has been mentored by some very amazing musicians over the years, but I believe that they have all come to respect her as their equal. Now I see that she is mentoring others who also have the potential to be amazing. The musicians who show up on stage unannounced are always a great treat! My ONLY complaint is that she starts her part of the show too late. I get that she is hoping to introduce other musicians and I really appreciate that and enjoy listening to them all....maybe if the whole show started earlier? Many of us have to drive for a very long time afterwards to get home or to our hotels...not everybody is camping. I hope that she has a place at the gorge every year like Dave Matthews!

  • Magical

by Heidi on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I loved everything right down to the people around me. Brandi’s music is so good and she sounded better live than I could’ve ever imagined. I simply must see her again.

  • Heaven with no signs

    by H A on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the venue, the views cannot be beat! Unless you get a front row ticket, stick to the lawn for the views and a little room to breathe. Drop a pin on your map when you park cause it all looks the same in the dark. They could use better signage for different exits. Still worth it though!

  • Concerts were amazing/ actual chairs horrible

by AL on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

I don’t think I will ever pay for your seated sections again. The chairs are flimsy and uncomfortable, easily movable to rows become unrecognisable and people just shove them around if they want more leg room. If you are going to charge that much, something needs to be done. The actual peri was sublime all three nights but the one night on the lawn was much more comfortable and 1/4 of the price.

  • O.M.G.

by SMarcelin on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Whether or not you're a Brandi Carlile fan, this show was MAGICAL!! The supporting acts on Friday night (Marcus Mumford and Allison Russell) were dreamy. And the Saturday night Joni Jam with my all-time favorite singer/songwriter, Joni Mitchell, was beyond my expectations. She played for 3 hours!!! And while the logistics at the Gorge are pretty miserable, the setting more than makes up for it. I do have to say, though, that for $900 tickets, I was HUGELY disappointed that we couldn't see Joni AT ALL from our floor seats in the house left section. Anyone with a brain could have made the choice to move her down in front of the other performers so that we could see her. My next still hurts from having to look up at the jumbotron in front of me. So while there were definitely things that could have improved our experience, I wouldn't have missed it for the world, and will definitely go back to the Gorge, if the opportunity arises. I just won't pay extra for floor seats and will find a cheap spot on the lawn, close to the exit.

  • Fantastic!!

by BJ on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome venue and absolutely fantastic concert. Brandi was at the top of her game and provided a show that left you smiling and dancing when you left.

  • Unforgettable In All The Best Ways!

by Jonnie on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Words can’t describe how amazing Brandi Carlile is, both as a performer and human. Her passion for her family, other artists and her audience made this show one I will always remember. The energy at the venue mirrored her passion making it all the more special.

  • Performers - great! Venue - good.

by KR on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Not my first time coming to the Gorge but this weekend seemed to be the least managed for the largest crowd I’ve seen there yet. The honey buckets for camping and the venue was well managed, which was the best I’ve ever seen! With how they have stage set up the most disappointing thing was a giant crane for a camera pointed at the stage impedes majority of the view from the left side. The camera angles shown on the main screens could have done a better job following who was performing rather than just who was on stage. Overall, a great weekend.

  • Poor organization

    by L. O. on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 2 out of 5

Ticketmaster was fabulous. My phone wasn’t working at the venue so I could not access my tickets. And I waited till 4 o’clock went to the ticket window and was able to have a very nice lady print them out for me. So that was fabulous. The miss management of life nation was atrocious. Unless that was the venues responsibility. But there was nobody to tell people where to line up. Nobody to ask questions to and the line that we stood in was an hour and a half long up a hill and then an hour and a half long down the same hill to then wait in line after we got through the entrance gates to just enter the area where we had reserved seats. Then, when we got into that line was still nobody from live nation to talk to you, we made it another half hour plus to just get into where our seats were. My other big complaint is that the seats were so tight and close together that nobody could really sit in their seats. When we did see a live nation employee, they were talking on their phones and not paying attention to anyone. And seemed very clueless when you were asking them questions. The concert was fabulous, the merchandise stores and the food vendors were good. But the organization was ridiculous.

  • Love Brandi!

    by Linda B on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Great show with openers Allison Russell and Marcus Mumford. Brandi and the twins brought their amazing harmonies and special surprise guests Brandy Clark, Sarah MacLauchlan and Annie Lennox were highlights. Quality of the music was superb! Venue was awesome. A show to remember!

  • Enjoyed it very much!

by Lorlha on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Only trouble we had was when we exited the freeway there was no sign telling us to turn left. The GPS was taking us to exit 149 and the signage said to exit at 143 but then no directions after that exit. Confusing but we managed to find it.

  • Awesome

by Mamadonna on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi was a class act! Love her enthusiasm and energy. Her stories about her life were inspiring. I saw her in her 20’s at the Woodland Park zoo in Seattle and I remember her being inspirational too. She’s a giver!!!

  • Brandi c at thompsons point

by Rick on 4/27/23Thompson's Point - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Audio was way too loud. We could not pick out the 3 piece harmony or other vocals or instruments, audio was one loud mass/mess.

  • Mind BLOWN

by Rosie H on 3/7/23Vivint Arena - Salt Lake CityRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi and the twins are crazy amazing! I saw her last tour and was dead and she upped her game! Her voice is unreal and it’s just a crazy thing to hear it in person. It’s overwhelmingly great. It’s hard to even explain. I have been to a million concerts this year and this one has to be the favorite or at least top 2! She upped her staging game and made it a crazy fun show and so it was even better than the last time I saw her. The voices are so good and the songs and the stories, and everything. I mean she is so fun to watch because she really interacts didn’t the crowd and she’s so funny. I just loved every minute. I found myself crying cause it was just overwhelming and amazing and I loved it so much. Such a great night. I already have tickets to see her again! Anytime she comes anywhere close I am there!!!!
