BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • You Gotta Go!!

What a great experience! Brandi is an inspiration and brings such joy to her concerts you can’t help but smile. Her talent is undeniable and her love of music and life is infectious. As a huge Joni Mitchell fan I’m forever grateful to Brandi for her bringing Joni back to performing in public. What a great weekend of music at The Gorge - Brandi and Friends was unbelievable only to be surpassed by the Joni Jam the next night. Brandi fan forever!

  • Poor venue management / Incredible shows

by Linda on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 2 out of 5

I had not been to the gorge for an event in over 20 years. I was not about to miss this weekend of shows so I made the trip. The setting and the artists are beyond compare. Anyone that has been to this venue knows how special it is. I was, however, extremely disappointed at how little this venue has improved its management and event flow. The "floor" seating is oversold to the point that chairs can barely fit next to each other. Many people around me stood the entire time because they simply could not sit in their chairs without their bodies overlapping on their neighbors. Additionally, there was a long line to access the floor seating and the bottleneck lasted nearly 30 minutes into the show. This is completely unacceptable. Any attempt to find management was ignored by staff reporting that they "don't work in this section so I don't know what to tell you." Parking before and exiting after the event is also completely disorganized and somewhat dangerous. This is an open field situation. Flaggers did not seem to be working together and would often be directing cars to go to the same place at the same time. Areas patrons were using to walk to the venue had cars coming from both sides at times. At some point getting further into the parking area there was no one directing traffic at all so it was left up to patrons to figure out how to avoid hitting each other. I could go on but you get the idea. It is such a shame that this beautiful place is run so poorly. I would think they could do better than this.

  • Echoes Thru The Canyon

    by S. H. on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Check in for us on Friday afternoon into Standard camping was pretty easy. The venue itself was great! Honey bucket service was excellent. Very clean and well kept up. The teens working could be friendlier with better communication skills. There were some inconsistencies with the rules while walking to the box office: one day we were allowed to take a sealed beverage past the general store and the next day we were not! The requirement of having to show our tickets every time we entered the Pit on the last night (Sun) was a huge pain. Again very inconsistent depending on which side you entered. Why didn’t you have wristbands on the last night?? Better vegetarian food options would be nice. And the price for alcohol is ridiculous!! The music was absolutely wonderful!!

  • Best Concert Ever!

by Pam on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

We had not attended a concert at the Gorge in 20 plus years so we felt like rookies. We received a lot of help from friends who attend regularly so we felt prepared to navigate the Gorge. Entrance was smooth once we found the correct line. Brandi Carlisle’s team put on an excellent concert. It was an incredible experience. After the concert, getting out of the parking lot was a bit sticky. Young teenagers were waving lighted baton’s but were not really directing anyone. I have to admit the crowd was pretty civil and patient so after a hour we were on our way.

First time at The Gorge for a show. Hands down the most incredible concert that I’ve seen in my over 40 years of going to concerts!!! Annie Lennox was the cherry!!

  • Great performance, poorly organized

by Lain on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 3 out of 5

Traffic organization was great, parking organization was great, the crowd management to let people into the venue was awful. The crowd was mixed, due to the nature of the performance there were quite a few elderly and mobility impaired guests. Once you walked through the field to the entrance, you were instructed to walk to the end of the line in the opposite direction down the hill/under the bridge/back up the hill towards camping parking. This could had been significantly more improved if we were directed at parking where the end of the general admission line was. I was with my 70 year old mother, carting blankets and it tracked that we walked 1.5 miles.. from the car, to the entrance, to the end of the line. We were nearly back at the road by the time we got to the end of the line, so we went back to the car so she could rest. Cars were still piling in well into a hour into the start of the show, I have no idea how there wasn’t major incident leaving with the volume of people. The disregard for guests to enter felt like, “eh, you already bought your tickets/spent your money.. good luck”.

  • Once in a lifetime concert

    by Sarah J. on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I go to concerts all the time and try to make sure I see Brandi Carlile at the Gorge every year because the lineup, the live, and the crowd is always so next level. Not to mention that it’s the most beautiful stage I’ve ever been to. I didn’t think it could get much better but this year topped it! It’s going to be hard to come close to how amazing this weekend was for me again. Just incredible.

  • Absolutely stunning

by Zoe on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best event we have been to. The surroundings, the music and the people were all wonderful. Brandi Carlile is a true legend and puts on the best performances.

  • Brandi at the Gorge

by AdaPotato on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Background, I've seen Brandi a couple of times (Benaroya and the Mount Baker theater) and have been to the Gorge probably two dozen times over the past 20 years. Brandy was elated to be there. It's always awesome to see an inspired artist. Her set was safe, as in there was minimal improvisation, The songs were very similar to what you hear on her album. She often spoke between songs and switched between guitar and piano. If that's your thing, to hear an album reproduced live with some commentary then you would have loved it. I like to see a different show than what's on the album with variation in how the songs are played. That being said, Brandi's voice is second to none. The Gorge is more developed now that Live Nation owns it. In a few ways it's more comfortable than the old days, but you can't bring in very much gear and food anymore and food and beverages are extremely expensive ($25 per drink). I miss the picnicking days. My one big complaint about the Gorge is that they will not allow mothers with newborn babies to sit in the bar areas. Give me a break. My 3-week-old baby is not there to drink alcohol I just wanted to rest.

  • Excellent concerts

    by Brandifan72 on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Music performances so great! Shuttles for ADA off and on. Sat night was a mess with ADA and non ADA line mixed up and we weren’t moving. There might need to be more shuttles ready for those in wheelchairs and otherwise needing a ramp. More busses other than golf carts that can take 4 or 6 at a time. There are so many of us with physical issues. My knees and back and age make the walk up to the exit really tough and that’s what I ended up doing and paying a price for. Also, getting to the shuttle, meant standing for 15 to 30 minutes, and on a slant. There was a chair Friday night, and a much shorter line, thank God.The food…when I walked up on Saturday night, I saw loads of food options I didn’t see down in reserved seating. The burgers I got down below were awful. The meat was crumbly. Servers weren’t allowed to give ice and it was so hot. I kept having to buy $5 water to get ice. Then, the fountain drink machines were not working all 3 nights. Sunday night, I was told that there were some soft drinks next to them, in the bar. I got a Sprite, but I can’t guzzle down drinks. In fact, I have a swallowing disorder, so it would take me hours to drink it all. But I wasn’t allowed to leave! So I asked for a chair. The guy said chairs aren’t allowed in the bar! I would have never been in the bar if the machines were working. There could have been soft drink stands with cans and cups and ice outside the bar and made things a lot easier. There were stands with beer and cans of water. They could have been there. I don’t drink much soda, but I don’t really like Liquid Death and Truly. People were helpful when they could be. The Life Nation people were really good. But there were some issues that could have been planned for/taken care of beforehand.

  • Magical

by Gumbysz on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

Traveled from Ohio, camped out for the weekend. I have never been to a venue that was so well organized, well staffed and extremely clean! This is a well oiled machine! Staff are so helpful and kind. Ok, now the music! OMG! I am still absorbing everything that happened! The surprises were astonishing! Seeing Joni was a dream come true! She was perfect! Brandi! AMAZING, she was a none stop rock queen!

  • Best ever

BCB never ceases to amaze. They bring it - and more - every time. It’s a spiritual experience, one that everyone should have. The venue is amazing and they’ve tried to think of everything. Parking planning was a bit sketchy by y’all, considering the enormity of the event. Not BCB’s fault - you knew what was coming! Do better.

  • Amazing shows

by TB on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

2 amazing nights of Brandi Carlile and friends and the Joni Jam. Didn’t make it to 3rd night. The Joni Jam is a show people will talk about for a long time. The Gorge is a beautiful venue. I do thing the Gorge needs to train employees a bit more on how to process people through security, how to answer questions, how to keep lines moving etc and especially how to get cars out of the parking lot logically.

  • Stunning venue and stellar performance

by Molly on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

I don’t have enough positive adjectives to express how much I love this venue. The staff is so helpful and friendly. There’s tons of food options. The bathroom situation is the best you could ask for an outdoor venue. Hydration stations everywhere. And then of course it’s the most gorgeous view you’ll ever find at a concert. There’s never an issue with sound, visuals, or any of the technical components. Then Brandi herself was so beyond stellar. Her commanding stage presence and star power blew me away. Her openers were fantastic, she brought out so many guests, and they all sounded phenomenal. Wish I could relive this night over and over again :)

  • Wish I could give it 5 stars

by Mel on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

Brandi is always amazing and didn't disappoint this time. She is a once-in-a-lifetime entertainer up there with the greats, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks and others. The Gorge Ampitheater is a first rate venue with incredible sound. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is that the ordeal of leaving the venue almost, but not quite, negates the experience of the concert. Because of its rural location the access and egress are on 2 lane roads so when you have 20,000+ fans leaving at the same time it becomes a traffic jam like no other; 1 hour plus just to get out of the parking lot. Seeing Brandi however keeps us coming back for this ordeal.

  • Amazing Night!

by Denise on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Brandi live in concert. What an AMAZING night! The girl can rock, yet there were moments that were quiet and emotional. Then they performed Beatles and Queen on top of all that! Her band was outstanding…and those “string sisters”, WOW!!! The icing on the proverbial cake were her surprise guests.I only wish that I’d stayed for the entire weekend! Thank you Brandi for an evening that this 71 year old woman will never forget. ❤️

  • Brandi never disappoints!

by LaraD on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 5 out of 5

The Gorge is beautiful, Brandi and her band were amazing and I wished I would have booked tickets for all 3 nights!! Also, the people working concessions are volunteers and their tips were going to local schools so that was really cool.

  • Fabulous concert but parking craziness

by BrandiFanLin on 6/12/23Gorge Amphitheatre - GeorgeRating: 4 out of 5

The gorge amphitheater is a stunningly beautiful concert location. But they pack in 26,000 people! And they all have to get in and out on a 2/3 lane road. The lay of the land in the parking lot is vast and confusing. There are a lot of people wandering around, trying to find their cars. They need much, much, much better signage and staffing to make this an easier process!!
