BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • Brandi: Another amazing concert!

    by kthor3325 on 9/19/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Wow. My second time seeing in her concert. If I could, I would follow her on tour. There is something about her voice live on stage that takes your breath away, gives you goosebumps and simply shouldn't be missed! The venue was intimate and allowed the crowd to really be a part of the show. Bottom line: She is amazing.

judicious use of capoes high energy seemed to pronounce Alleluia without the H (religious background?)

  • Brandi Rocks the Madison

by FancyRocks on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile rocked the Madison Theater in Covington, KY Thursday night. She opened by singing old school acappella with her band mates Tim and Phil Hanseroth and the amazing drummer Allison Miller. She performed songs from her two previous albums as well as introducing us to a few songs from her new album, Give up the Ghost, due out in October. Brandi interacted with us, the audience, like we were old friends. Her perfect pitch and mad skills on the guitar made this show one of the best I have ever seen. See her perform. Hear her voice. Breathtaking.

  • Brandi Carlile was one of the best concerts ever!

by rebl on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi played for almost two hours! She's better live than on CD. She and her band obviously loved what they were doing and really enjoyed the crowd. The opening act was also really good.

If you haven't seen Brandi Carlile live, you are truly missing out! My friends and I can not understand why Brandi isn't a bigger star. I had a grin on my face through the whole show.

  • Brandi is one of the best I have ever seen live!!!

by CopperD on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't know to much about Brandi Carlile but I bought her first 2 cd's and thought they were great. I then went to see her in Nashville, TN and it was one of the best concerts I had ever seen live and I have seen a lot of very big names. Last night in Covington, KY was the 2nd time I seen Brandi and she produced another hands down best performance show live!!! Her voice is the most amazing voice I have ever heard from a female singer. If you have never seen a show GO NOW!!!

  • Brandi Carlile = perfection!

    by CaseyM10 on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile is by far the best concert I have ever attended! She was absolutely incredible each moment of the performance!! She is a truly talented musician. One of my favorite moments of the show is when she sang "Dying Day" from her new album completely acoustic. She had the audience be quiet so that everyone could hear her with no microphone and none of the instruments amplified...there was not a sound in the place! Great show! Her encore was practically as long as her show because she loved our audience! Definitely hoping to see Brandi Carlile back in the Convington area soon!

  • Superb performance

This was the best concert I have ever been to. The venue was perfect, not a bad seat in the house. Sound was great, stage was just right, and Brandi Carlile sang like a goddess! I will be talking about this show for years to come!

  • Amazing Experience

by MSPW on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 2nd show that I've seen Brandi perform and I was blown away once more with her raw talent. It's rare to find an artist who sounds twice as good live as they do in recordings. Her voice is so pure yet so complex that you find yourself with goosebumps throughout the show. As an avid concert go-er it means a lot to say this is one of my absolute favorite shows-ever. You won't be disappointed.

  • Brandi Carlile was amazing!!!

by travelinfool on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was spectacular. Brandi could sing the phone book and I would love it. She has such a unique voice and I was equally impressed w/her stage presence. The crowd was very energetic also; she played almost 2 hours. There was such variety in the concert. She even did a "mini Country" set. In addition, the Madison is a perfect venue for such a show. I will see her again...and again...and again!!

  • Brandi Carlile Rocked It!!!

    by Holly123 on 9/18/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This wasn't my first Brandi Carlile concert, but it was amazing. The energy from the crowd was powerful, and the band really seemed to thrive on it. Brandi Carlile is an amazing singer, and the music was incredible. If you haven't seen her, you need to do whatever you need to do to make that happen. One of my fav. concerts ever and I've seen quite a few.

The show was nothing short of phenomenal, and the Beaumont Club was the perfect venue. I was absolutely blown away by the performance. She is even better live than in her recordings, which is a tall order.

  • Totally amazing!

    by brandifan24 on 9/16/09Beaumont Club - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

This woman is totally mesmerizing! To hear her sing is a real treat and driving 3 hours to Kansas City to watch her play was a no brainer. The next time she plays anywhere within driving distance (8 hours or so) you can bet your butt I'll be there!

  • Every show Brandi does is like witnessing miracles

by Celstyle on 9/16/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Brandi this year. I saw her on her last tour in Des Moines, IA, in April. That tour was an accoustic tour. The venue was an old theater and the sound quality was amazing. The Pageant was a fun place, but I think I preferred the Hoyt Sherman Place to this. She did more unplugged songs, and the audience was totally quiet the whole time. She did do one unplugged song at the Pageant though. It was a song from her new album. She said that they starting singing it that way and couldn't stop doing it unplugged, because it sounded the best in that form. Seeing her with a full band was an experience in itself. I loved her drummer - she was so tiny and I loved watching her twisting her head back and forth to the beats LOL... Brandi was not only sounding amazing, but looking it too! She wore her tight jeans, cowboy boots, button-up shirt and bandana for us. Too cute! The twins, of course, had pretty much matching outfits of jeans, button-up shirts and fedora hats... We got to hear some songs from her new album, including "Dreams," which is a new big favorite of mine. She also played ones from her self-titled album and "The Story," which were so awesome. I am so in love with her screams. Every time she does "Turpentine" live, she has the audience divided into three parts, singing the harmonies for awhile... then just breaks loose and does the huge scream of "hhhhhhaaaaahhhhaaaa knoooooow we're rockaaaaay!" I was in heaven. It was better than her "Live at Easy Street" recording, better than Iowa. It was so perfect. I grabbed my friend's jeans beside me and slunk down in my seat, like I was melting from bliss... damn. What a woman. I wish I could do that with my voice. It's so hot and it's so emotionally expressive! When the band first entered the stage, they all formed a half-circle and sang with just (Tim?) playing one instrument as they all harmonized together. It was a song from the new album and they had sang it in Iowa, I believe, but I don't recall the name. I don't think she even said the name, come to think of it... but that's what I mean by miracles. Her voice sounded even fuller than before last night and it was so rich in its tone... a miracle to be sure.
