BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • Brandi and Band wonderfully unique

    by Nowsk on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

Blending folk, rock, a wonderful powerful voice , and an engaging stage presence, Brandi Carlile seemed fresh and excited to play for her favorite market. Her band was eclectic (cello) and competent.

I've seen Brandi Carlile numerous times and this one was the BEST! O'Shaughnessy is an amazing venu and they used it to it's full potential. I wish I was going tonight again too! Brandi has an amazing voice and she and her band have true musical talent. I can't wait for the album to come out on Oct 6th. My boyfriend had never seen them before and he loved it too! Can't wait till the next show!

  • Brandi Carlile was amazing!

    by JLeeler on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Beginning with a new acoustic song, to getting the entire audience on their feet and singing along, Brandi was truly amazing last night. She sang both old and new songs, fast and slow, country and rock providing a great experience for everyone in the crowd. She also did a few solo (w/o band members) songs as well as a few covers.

  • Brandi rocked it!!

    by khertz on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Who knew?! Well we did, but still were amazed! Great venue, loved the new, the old, the acoustic!! The encore version of 'Folsom Prison Blues' nearly brought the house down as did her song for 'Caroline'. Great show as always, you can tell she loves Minnesota and isn't afraid to try out new stuff on us. Great how she likes to have us sing along and keeps us involved. One downside...30 minutes to reset? okay it turned out to be worth it. Angel Taylor was super too, glad we decided to get there for her!

  • Brandi - a Vintage concert

    by JeromeGV73 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

7 of the Pflugi clan went to O'Shaughnessy last night to see B C. After listening to many of my wife's Brandi music, I was ready to see her in concert. I liked Brandi's recordings, but after last night, she is a must see live. Great vocals, funny stories, just short of 2 hours long. Wow, I was blow away by the power of her band. Great women drummer, the twin playing guitar brothers and a Viola. Brandi's voice and style is a mix between, Johnny Cash and Mick Jagur with a great women's voice. A mix of almost full county with rock overtones. a 10 out of 10. If you have the time, Go and see Brandi Carlile live. $25 for a ticket in this day and age is a bargain. Awesome!!!!!

    by gigimimi on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi was so excited to be in the twin cities, her family flew in for the show. She debuted a lot of music off the upcoming album - great stuff. A lot of audience interaction. Great Johnny Cash covers, Beatles, etc. Her voice sounds exactly like it does on her recorded albums - amazing range. The rest of her band was great too. Highly recommond this show!

  • Brandi is the bomb!

    by Coffeeebuzd on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing performance! Brandi mixed up new songs from her just released albums along with great songs from both her Brandi Carlile and The Story CD's. She also did a song completely unplugged for the audience at the O'Shaunessey. The crowds silence was a testament to how much people appreciate and enjoy her music. Her voice was incredible as always. She also did covers of some great country songs like Folsom Prison Blues and Stand By Your Man.. and a nice version of the Beatles, Let it Be.

    by PJP23 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I thought Brandi put on an amazing show for the sold out auditorium. She played some of her new stuff as well as some older songs and she even did an Elton John song with her on the piano. She had a great vibe with the crowd as well. She's a delightful musician and she really used her personality not only with the crowd but with her band. She's great at talking with the audience and telling story's about her music. I had never seen a show at O'Shannessy; wow what a great place to watch a show and the occoustics were outstanding. She played for about an hour and forty five minutes and left the crowd wanting more after an unforgettable oncore. What a great night at a perfect venue. The people that were there were treated to an amazing night of music. She's a special talent and she had a lot of fun performing.

  • Stunning!

    by Smiley100 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Unbelieveably talented! Show ranged from Solo acts, full band, acoustic, unplugged from speakers, focus on all instruments including Brandi on piano in addition to a variety of guitars, full partiicipation by her band and focus on their talents. She played a wide variety of songs including songs from her new album, old songs, & songs from other artists. Brandi has the ability to give a calm relaxing show, but able to bring the auditorium to it's feet for the more rock style songs! I have to honestly say... she's the one of the best I've seen. Thank you Brandi for coming to the Mpls/St. Paul area. I will no doubt be at your next show in our area. Thank you also for sharing your talent of music with the world... we are blessed because of you!

  • Brandi Carlile was amazing!!!!!

What a magical evening.... Brandi was so "on" last night. Having her family in the audience, and interacting with us as her family too made the evening an awesome experience. She even had us singing too.... Her voice is beautiful.

  • Her energy is amazing

Brandi is amazing. As always, she brought out the rock at the show and even covered some classics. Her voice is amazing and she surrounds herself with great musicians. I wouldn't hesitate to see her in any venue.

by JulieElizabeth on 9/22/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a Brandi Carlile fan for many years now, and this was my first time seeing her in person. Her concert was amazing. She's an incredibly genuine, down to earth, wonderful performer. I'm a fan for life, and will see her every time she returns to St. Louis.

  • Brandi Carlile PHENOMENAL

    by Katie45 on 9/21/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

In one word - PHENOMENAL! The opening number sung a cappella by the entire band gave me the chills. The concert was a great mix of songs off her first two albums, songs off the upcoming album and some covers. Thrown in throughout the evening was some banter giving background on the songs, touring, recording, etc.

  • Brandi a real find!

by FuninSTL on 9/21/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Decided to take in some live entertainment while visiting St. Louis. Was not familiar with Brandi's work but made plans to go to concert with a friend. Wow! Very impressed with overall show and her vocals were amazing. We both enjoyed the event to the max and hooked on the bands sound. Solid performance and exactly what we were looking for in live entertainment. She and the twins were fantastic. Terrific Music, energetic audience and overall great time!!

  • Brandi Carlile was unique in her performance

by LaurieAnn on 9/20/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Brandi and crew were great!! I would have given 5 stars except for the blinding blue light that was projected into the crowd for a good portion of the show. Keep the lighting on the stage! I'm not sure whose responsibility this is, the Madison Theatre or the band.

  • Life Changing

    by greenberet951 on 9/20/09Madison Theater - CovingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert has easily ranked among one of the best I've ever seen. Brandi has more on stage presence and charisma than many professional artists and put on a show that was one continuous and gorgeous artistic expression. The crowd was incredibly supportive and into the music, and Brandi rewarded us with an amazing show that I will remember for the rest of my life.
