BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

Brandi's entire show was excellent. The venue (St. catherine O'Shaugnessy) was perfect to showcase her and her bands exceptional talent. It was a lot of fun and I will go see her whenever she is in town!

  • One of the best

This was my second Carlile concert (the first being the MN State Fair in '08 so a little different style show). It was AWESOME! Her opening act: Angel Taylor was a total bore though! Good voice, good music, but it all sounds the same and it's really flat. Brandi had a lot of diversity in song choice and lots of rock it was fab! Her family was in the audience too so I think she really shined for them. I wish the seats were closer but the acoustics were good enough.

  • Brandi Carlile continues to amaze

    by drgnrdr on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile, the band, was tight vocally and instrumentally as usual ,but Brandi herself was very excited to have a group of family members at the show. She was warm and light and extremely personable,as well as being a firey performer with an unbelieveable voice. The crowd was into the set from opening to encore with the new single "Dreams" and old standards "the Story" and"Have You Ever" getting the most response, but all the numbers were widely appreciated especially the song from the new LP inspired by and dedicated to her 21/2 year old niece "Caroline". Brandi and the band did the song with energy even though she was searching the crowd and waving repeatedly to a young blond in her mother's arms who was waving back throughout the song. Another great Brandi Carlile show, inspirational, spirited and fun.

  • Brandi and gang ROCK!

    by bear102453 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi and the group were fantastic. She is so down home, and the ranges that she reaches puts Maria Cary to shame. Brandi and gang have fun on stage and they show it. Anytime they come here again I'll be there.

  • Brandi Carlile is amazing live!!!

Brandi Carlilie has been great each time I have seen her (and this is #11 for me)... I never feel like I don't need to go to her shows when she in the Twin Cities... Her music gives goosebumps and makes me smile. She gave a wonderful performance on Wednesday, September 23rd at St. Kate's. She did an acoustic set, and sang a song without a microphone, and rocked out! Her voice and sound are real, along with her lyrics!

  • Amazing as always

This was my 5th time seeing Brandi perform and it was just as awesome as every other time. Brandi and the band are so talented I look forward to seeing her every time she comes to town.

Brandi has a unique, strong, clear voice and her show was simply amazing. Her band was also fantastic. I have already highly recommended the show to several people. I will definitely want to see her the next time she is in the area - AWESOME!

  • Best concert I've been to in years.

    by anemilie on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

A perfect mix of up-beat and peaceful numbers, great energy, a joyful spirit and a humble singer songwriter made this one of the most inspiring performances I've seen in my life. And, in case you didn't know, this woman can SING.

Great show! The setting was great! The stage was set up simple, but reflected her personality. LOVED the cello! All around fantastic show! Her voice is amazing! Crowd seemed really into all of it. Would go again tonight if I had tickets! Looking forward to picking up her new cd's.

  • Brandi is great

    by Geezer2 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent concert with a nice mixture of songs from her new album and the best of her earlier albums, plus some country/western and even the Beetles (Let It Be - I thought I was listening to a young Joan Baez). She even did a couple of Johny Cash songs and invited some very vigorous crowd participation.

A wonderful experience - a mix of the old and some of her new songs. Interaction with the audience and her band was great. Together Brandi and her band mates made in a memorable night.

It was amazing as always. I wish she would have brought her parents and uncle up to jam. Would have been better without Angel Taylor. I go anytime Brandi is in the area wouldn't miss one!!

  • Probably the best concert I've ever seen.

    by druf2000 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The girl who was amazing in concert the first time I was her just keeps getting better and better. Set in the acoustically perfect The O'Shaughnessy, it was the perfect location for such talented musicians. Opener Angel Taylor was also very good, sounding a lot like Adele, though technical problems from a short detracted from the show.

  • What a voice, what a talent!

    by DMB299 on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The most amazing thing is how comfortable Brandi feels with her Twin Cities audience. She was fabulous in how outgoing she was with her comments between songs. She has definitely found a following here. The cover of Let It Be was great, and it was the second time I heard it yesterday (caught it earlier on the Current FM). Still wish she would have done Hallelujah or Creep, but she did have to get new songs and old reliables in. I wish I were going tonight again to hear her. Glad to hear that she will no longer skip us over as she did in April.

  • Brandi was A++mazing!!

    by Danewho on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible!! Our seats were in the balcony, with a great view, great sound! The one and only thing I would say I was not overly happy was the lighting. Several times the yellow lights were aimed right at the center of the upper balcony and it was totally blinding. Luckily it wasn't for extended periods of time! Would without a doubt see her again!

  • Awesome!

Brandi always rocks. Great show, and great energy! Can't wait to see her again tonight!

  • Fabulous!

    by MBunny on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Best Brandi in MN to date. She played 8 songs from her new album and lots of her fan favorites, too. 3 rows behind me was her niece Caroline rocking and waving during "her" song. It was a great night!

  • Brandi is one of a kind!

    by mylosammy on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the concert! The intimate venues are great and the O'Shaughnessy brings that to life. Brandi has an awesome voice and makes you feel part of the experience with her stories. She and the band are great! Angel Taylor was also very good and great mix of musical talent.

  • Great night was had by all at Brandi Carlile show

    by clary on 9/24/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile show was special--she was very happy to be playing and this was a special night for her in that her Father/Mother and extended family were at the show flying in from Seattle. The music was great and she did both old and new songs. She and the band worked to have the crowd involved in the show. Was a fun night.

  • Great Venue, Great Artist
