BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:
Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

Best concert I have seen this year! Brandi Carlile is the most versatile performer i have seen in a long time. HEr voice is crystal clear and very engaging. She is totally in sync with her ensemb;e. Loved the cello, very classy. This performer has a very broad appeal, incredible voice range and a warm level of engagement with the audience. I didn't want it to end.
This is the 3rd time I've seen her and she keeps getting better. She and her band must be seen live to really appreciate Brandi's astounding voice. I took my sister who had only heard a few songs and after the opener I looked over and her mouth was wide open. You can tell they are a very seasoned tour band because once they're up on stage they really have fun and want to get the audience involved. I left that show feeling so good and grateful for this kind of music...music with heart, music that leaves you thinking. Go see her!
Well I'm glad I get to write a review for Brandi's show because I am always up for telling people how amazing she is. She played two nights in a row (like at the MN State Fair). She sold out the first show the day the tickets went on sale and then booked the next night as well. Love her! Her voice is amazing. She does a song completely unplugged and it proves how loud she really can belt a tune. The lyrics written by her and the twins are deep and personal and they pull you right in. She is very personal and likes to tell little stories between songs and get the crowd laughing. She is very appreciative to her audience and you can tell she is really happy to be there playing for you. She always seems very excited to be back in Minnesota and says it feels like a second home to her. I could go on all day.... but if you have not seen Brandi and her band play yet, you need to do that! You will not regret it. The age group is very mixed. All ages seem to take to her music. People post a lot of good videos of her on youtube if you have not heard her music before.
Brandi Carlile is an amazing talent! Her voice is glorious and magnificent. The show at the O'Shaughnessy last night was awesome. Tim and Phil are great musicians and their harmonizing is superb. This was the third time I saw Brandi in concert and I am already looking forward to seeing her again.
First I must tell you that I am a very big fan. Any opportunity you get to see her perform is worth it. Now, having said that; I have seen you several times in concert, but this one fell a little short. After having seen both of her concerts at the Minnesota State Fair in 2008, I thought there were too many similarities in her "between song" breaks. I wish she would just open up a little more freely. The lighting was horrible. Throughout the show, I found myself blinded by the flood lights which repeatedly were focused on the audience. I get that maybe she can then see the croud, but often, I couldn't see her. I also thought the show was little too short. I loved her opening accapella song and imenslely enjoy all the new cuts. All in all, I felt like I was watching a "show". Not to worry, I'm stuill there.
Wow! Wow! Wow! ...did I say Wow? The 'unplugged and unamplified" tune was spectacular. Brandi was in spectacular voice, and a great mood. The music was very grooved, and there was a tremendous energy and affinity between the band and the crowd. I believe we would have done jumping jacks for them. Most important - it wasn't "a show" - it was music. Simple, sometimes elegant, of extremely high quality, and moving. Two Johnny Cash covers had the room stomping - hope you get a chance to hear them. Hallelujah for a closer (by request), even though she isn't playing it on this tour. Brought the house down. Brandi and the band - if you read this... thank you for a most memorable night.
This was a great show! It all started off cool when we pulled into the parking lot and Brandi came out of her tour bus with one of the Twins. She smiled and waived and almost seemed surprised at our excitement to see her. The auditorium was incredible and this girl can sing! The band is also great! One of the best shows I've been to.
Brandi rocked the house last night! She was enthusiastic to be here and it showed. When an artist wants to play several new songs the audience usually puts up with it (no choice involved), but last night we couldn't wait to hear each new song. Her new album "Give Up The Ghost", which also comes in vinyl, is highly anticipated!
I'm still in the process of getting acquainted with Brandi Carlile's music. Despite being somewhat new to Brandi Carlile's music (hits aside), she had me captivated from start to finish. The venue (O'Shaughnessy Auditoreum in St. Paul) made for a very intimate and interactive show. She made it very personal, providing background and stories, relating to her songs. The performance featured the perfect amount of variety, with a vocal performance to start, an unplugged song (really cool), several new and several old, followed by an amazing Johnny Cash cover. She ended the show with Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which was sung beautifully. Leonard would be proud. Brandi Carlile sings with so much emotion. She is fierce. I would see her again in a heartbeat. My hands are sore from clapping.
What can I say. This was my second time seeing Brandi and she doesn't miss a beat. Spectacular show...all around. Her stories are entertaining and she's so humble and grateful for her fame. THAT is wonderful to see. Came out for 2 ovations...she's got the voice of an angel. And speaking of an angel, Angel Taylor wasn't bad herself. For 21, so much musical maturity...unbelievable. I will go to every Brandi Carlile show for the rest of my life! A stunner!
Energetic, charged...Brandi was great in concert. Her voice is amazing! And she has such great rapport with the audience...
Wow...The night was amazing. What a voice and what a great lady she is. I will always see her when she is in town, and I would encourage everyone else to do the same. A very thoughtful and genuine performance.
Her voice is the kind you could listen to all night. she really seems to enjoy herself and that makes it more fun for the crowd.
Brandi Carlile blew me away as usual. From amazing completely unplugged songs (no mic even!) to bringing down the house with a few Johnny Cash covers...it was everything I have come to expect from Brandi.
Brandi's voice sounded rich and beautiful from the start as the group opened with the a capella "Oh Dear," with its old-timey sound. She launched right away into another song from her new album. Later Brandi explained about how excited she was to play in this town to his crowd but also had the added joy to play for her family who drove or flew in to see her. The band played eight songs from their new album throughout the show, but they worked in many older tunes as well. Brandi played to her family and worked in many country or country-flavored songs (Johnny Cash, C & W medley, her "Same Ol' You") since this was the musical diet they fed her as a child. But Brandi and the boys (+ drummer Alison Miller) can still rock it, as they proved on "Dreams", "My Song", "Pride & Joy."
This is the fourth time I've seen Brandi in concert, and she never fails to put on an amazing show. Can't wait 'til she comes back!!!
Brandi was awesome! She does such a great job of involving her audience and establishing a relationship - evening for an evening. I hadn't seen the drummer before and she was a nice addition - lots of energy. The twins, as usual, were superb!
Here's the thing. Brandi Carlile and her band are absolutely phenomenal musicians and put on an amazing show. They are so generous with their time and talent. They could have performed half of what they did and it would have been well worth the money. But about the money...I tried so hard to log on to get good seats for this event and at 10:05 I was already put up in nose bleed seats. I decided to pay the money because I know Brandi herself is worth every penny. But I really do think the O'Shaugnessy balcony tickets should be less money. The seats are uncomfortable and you just don't get the same experience as those on the main floor. I was so disappointed that I didn't even have a chance at a good seat. I am not sure what the system is but it didn't seem fair.
Both my wife and I thought that Brandi put on a great show with good variety, a bunch of new songs, and great overall performance. She kept us all awake and claping, singing with her.
