BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

Absolutely without a doubt one of THE best concerts I have attended. If I would have had the money I would have gone both nights. Brandi interacts with the audience making all comfortable.

This was my third time seeing her in the cities, and I am always amazed at how she consistantly out does herself every time. She deserves every bit of positive coming her way and I am looking forward to the new album. One of the best female voices out there right now- unique and strong. Love her lyrics. Her band deserves kudos too. Love that she has kept the cello in her act. Unforgettable performance at O'Shaughnessy- she should move to MN and call it her new home.

it was an amazing show, as usual. a great variety of new and old, rock and acoustic, originals and covers... she seems so comfortable on stage and is a pleasure to watch. each member of her band is a valuable addition to the show, as well.

  • a very moving experience!

while the purpose of a concert tour is usually to promote the new album/cd, i liked how brandi did perform the fan favorites from 'the story', such as the title song and 'turpentine'. and it was nice to see her get the crowd into it, by having us sing the 'ohs' along with her during 'turpentine'. though i will admit that i liked the encores just as much, even if they were covers they were all good. this included johnny cash's 'folsom prison', the beatles song 'let it be', and a wonderful show-closer, brandi doing a spotlight song- leonard cohen's 'alleuia'. it was my first time hearing the songs from the new cd, but they sounded good. it was well worth it to pay to see her this time, i had seen one of her free shows at the state fair last year and liked it well enough to see her again. i had never heard of this venue- or college- before but the o'shaugnessy is a nice little venue, and so is the free parking. the main complaint was how the traffic moved slowly after the show. but brandi was as good as advertised, so any hangups i have pale in comparison to the very moving show that brandi did for us.

  • Brandi Carlile - Killed Us With Kindness

    by jenfler on 9/26/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile...her amazing voice was what I was looking forward to...especially having front row tickets! But I was absolutely blown away by the performance. The Twins and Brandi, and the rest of the band...WOW! They are amazingly talented, and all work (and sound) so well together. Brandi's voice is unforgettable...and I will never forget this show. The kindness she showed not only during, but after the show, was something I will also never forget. Her family flew into Minneapolis from Seattle for this show, and she STILL took the time afterward to talk with her fans, and sign autographs and take pictures. Brandi - thank you so much! You are amazingly kind and generous...and not just with your voice and music.

Wonderful voice. Charming and engaging performer - personality really comes through. Great acoustics in O'Shaughnessy even in top balcony seats. Good musicians. Loved the variety of numbers including her rocking and jamming with her musicians on old Johnny Cash tunes. Would see her again without question.

  • Impeccable

Amazing. Pure. Sincere. I had high expectations for this one after wearing The Story out on my iTunes. I was impressed and all expectations were surpassed. Brandi clearly is passionate about her performances and music. The fact that she is so comfortable in her own skin is appealing and when you add the talent of her voice, loving her is simply irresistible. What a treat to hear "Shadows on the Wall" live. I can't wait for the new CD to come out.

Brandi Carlile has a voice like no one else and brought the crowd to their feet several times during the night! She was very entertaining, great stories and really connects with her audience. I would see her again and again!!

Was a wonderful concert at a good venue. Brandi did a nice job interacting with the audience. Her powerful vocals were a treat as they sang one song completely unplugged. I only wish she could have played longer...

  • Simply Amazing

    by DAVMO10 on 9/25/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

I recently attended Brandi Carlile's show at the O'Shaughnessy Theatre at St. Catherine University. I can easily say that this show was in my top three shows of all time. The energy in the theatre was electric and the applause got to levels that rivaled big arena events. That just goes to show how much of an impact Brandi's performances make with fans. I brought my wife to the show and when it was over she commented on how entertaining the night was. She has only heard "The Story" and "Turpentine", so that comment was a big compliment. Brandi pulled in the crowd and made the evening as intimate as it could have been. We felt like we were on stage even though we were in row Q. I will definitely keep track of Brandi's tour and will attend her next performance most definitely. What a night!

  • Brandi Carlile is a STAR!

    by TopsyRicky on 9/25/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi and her band put on a terrific show. I had not seen her in concert before and what a treat it was. She played a very good mix of songs from her new yet to be unreleased album and her older songs. She also covered some Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and Beatles with her own Brandi-spin. The band was wonderful, especially the girl drummer Ally. Brandi was enthusiastic and bantered easily with the full house crowd. She has tremendous stage presence. Her voice couldn't have been better--every song soared. I went with a nonBrandi fan whose first comment after the show was "I want to see her show again"! It's a mystery to me why she isn't playing in even bigger venues. I plan to see her every time she comes anywhere close to my town.

  • Brandi Carlile - Voice was Robust and Sensational

    by pixiestardust on 9/25/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Her voice is incredible . . . Very talented artist. She started off the show in Harmony with the band - simply amazing. From there she jammed out like we were at rock concert . . .all the way down to a yodel (for her grandpa Vernon) with twist of Johnny Cash surprise and sweet succotash. The night was filled with some of her favorites on the album of "The Story" and few from her thrid NEW album "Give up the Ghost". Very personal artist sharing stories about her visits to Minneapolis/St. Paul in the winter time all the way to her much love for her hero Elton John and their recording time together which is featured on her lastest album. Brandi Carlile voice is very different from other musicians it's got this scratchy catchy intertwined melody to it, that she can move in an array of seconds. You don't want to miss this one. . .

  • Brandi Carlile sings her heart out!

I've always loved her music, but seeing Brandi Carlile in person is a MUST! She'll bring goosebumps to your skin with her powerful voice, while making you want to dance and clap with her infectious stage presence.

  • Brandi Carlile - swoon!

    by mtndreamn on 9/25/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Brandi was amazing! I'm pretty sure she tells every audience that they're "the best", but I'm hoping she comes to Minneapolis/St. Paul more often. O'Shaughnessy is a great theater - small and intimate. Go she her live - she's so powerful.
