BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

  • a rockin' good show!

by Elsybee on 10/4/09Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi is a fantastic performer, with great energy, versatility and verve. She and her band went from totally unplugged to hard-core electric, with a mix of old and new tunes. She loved being in the space and engaging with the audience. She just looked happy to be on stage singing and playing, and gave one of the best live performances I've seen in years!

  • Brandi Carlisle is awesome!

by kpmc on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlisle is so powerful. Her voice is awesome. And her band is super too! Her songs are meaningful and the tones and notes she reaches are unbelievable. When she spoke in between songs, she has an adorable personality. I would definitely go to another Brandi show and definitely buying her new CD in 2 days!

  • One of the best

by WIRunner on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We've seen several great shows at House of Blues - Boston, and always enjoy the show. Brandi Carlile was perhaps the best seen yet. She had a lot of great, raw energy, and seemed honestly appreciative of the audience. The band rocked, and the set list was fantastic. Couldn't recommend Brandi Carlile enough.

Oh my god--her shows are the best I've ever seen. Her voice completely kills and everyone in her band has great stage presence. ABSOLUTELY do not miss a chance to see her live!

  • Brandi was amazing

by queenamidala on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 3rd time I've seen Brandi in concert over the last 3 years. She has such a voice. The crowd totally loved the show. She should receive much more airplay on the radio. I hope she continues to come to the Boston area in the future. All the best, Brandi!

The atmosphere was just right and the energy and heart put into the performance was great. I couldn't have asked for a better night.

  • Brandi was on her game

by johnnydonuts on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi combined several genres - rock, folk, country rock, and a kicking version of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" in a fun, personal, show that also demonstated her incredible musical gifts. She has a signature vocal that, once you have heard her, you can immediately recognize her in about 2 notes. The rest of the band was tight and generally a fun bunch.

by Ilovebrandi on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing. I have seen Brandi Carlile many times. Last night she was upbeat happy and full of energy. The new album is awesome. Brandi has come such a long way. She is growing and her music and songwriting just keeps getting better. I do wish however she would have done a meet and greet after the show. I always look forward to telling her how awesome she is.....She almost always does a meet and greet.

  • Power in a small package

    by hunter80 on 10/3/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! Brandi and the band just continue to get better every time they are on stage! The concert was a nice mix of new and old material, as well as some covers and all-out surprises. Really - Brandi can belt out Johnny Cash with the best of them! The best part of the evening was when all band members unplugged and stepped to the front of the stage. She easily filled the O'Shaughnessy - unmiked - with "Dying Day." I was amazed at the musicality, power and passion of this song. I will NEVER forget that! If you are even the slightest fan, or tap your foot when her song comes on the radio, you need to hear her live!

  • An Amazing Event

by rfmitch67 on 10/3/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is my fourth Brandi Carlile show since "discovering" her first cd a few years ago. She gets better every time I see her. What an amazing performance!! Words cannot describe her powerful, warm, pitch-perfect voice and her complete dedication to both the music and the audience. The twins and the rest of the band, including a new drummer were at an absolute peak last night in Boston and the crowd responded in kind. From the "almost" acapella opener, "Oh, Dear," that featured sweet, perfect harmonies (the twins need more credit for their excellent voices) to the surging jam at the end of "Pride And Joy" (both from her upcoming cd "Give Up The Ghost") the show was a night full of highs and absolutely no lows. This was without a doubt one of the best concerts I have ever been a part of. I can hardly wait to see Brandi again!!

  • great concert

Concert was great. I had a pretty good view standing in the 1st floor general admission area, and the sound was excellent. Space and ambiance was pretty cool. Set had a good mix of a cappella, acoustic, rocking and soulful tunes! Brandi is a great singer!! Thank you for a great concert!

  • Outstanding

    by TurnerOle on 10/1/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Brandi Carlile play in St Paul on Thursday the 24th. Her show was outstanding from beginning to end, one of the best concerts I've seen in recent memory. Her voice was in fine form, and she really knew how to work an audience. She connected with both ballads as well as more powerful rock songs. Material was played from all three of her albums. Her encore set was a fantastic set of covers. Two hours just flew by. We'll definitely be attending the next time she's in town,

  • Brandi loosened up for night #2

    by MJmusic on 10/1/09The O'Shaughnessy - Saint PaulRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi was still playing for family and all her Minnesota fans, but it definitely was more relaxed on this night. She changed up the set list from the night before but still mixed in new songs from her "Give Up the Ghost" album and older songs. She played "Caroline" for her curly-haired 2-year old niece, though earlier in the set to accomodate Caroline's return to the hotel, and the a capella "Days Grow Long" as she did the night before. Her voice was stunning in the beautiful acoustics of the O'Shaughnessy! In the encore, the band again tore it up in "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Pride and Joy," but instead of the C & W medley from the night before, she ended with her always-powerful cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." You can't get a better live show than hearing the Brandi Carlile Band in person.

  • it was amazingly good

by potoba on 10/1/09Michigan Theater - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't like the opening artist (angel taylor) that much. But Brandi's performances were awesome, as usual.

  • Brandi delivers yet again

by michigangirl on 10/1/09Michigan Theater - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

The girl can sing.. that's not news to any Brandi fan. She and the twins were nothing short of amazing. Love how she makes the concert personal, sharing stories and getting the crowd involved too. Would see her on a weekly basis if I could!

  • Brandi Carlile is a must see!

by OliveOyle on 9/30/09Michigan Theater - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

As a first-time Brandi Carlile concert goer, I was truly impressed. The stage setup was impressive with lots of guitars, keyboard and cello. Brandi's introduction to the audience was A cappella with her bandmates which was amazing. The Michigan Theatre is a smaller venue which is perfect for her performance; she was able to interact with the audience and show off her vocals with and without her band. I would highly recommend seeing her Brandi live and look forward to another tour stop in Ann Arbor.

  • Brandi was phenominal

This was one of the best concerts I have seen....I hope she comes back to MIchigan very soon!
