BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

hearing brandi carlile's voice in this venue was incredible. so powerful and moving. and the place was packed -- seeing the smiles on everyones faces and hearing them sing along made it even more enjoyable. the brandi carlile band should definitely try to play here again!

Mic on Brandi was perfect....she sounded fantastsic. there was too much of a booming sound with the bass. distortion etc. The lights on stage blinded the audience several times, they were pointing right in our eyes at the orchestra level, it was really stuffy and hot in the theater BUT, her voice and personality by far made all the negatives of the venue worth it.

  • Brandi Carlile was great

She has an amazing voice, good energy. She varied songs from her newest release with songs that are familiar. Her backup singers/musicians are talented as well.

  • Brandi Carlile is a rockstar!

Brandi's music speaks to my soul!! Her voice is unlike anyone else I have heard - the clarity, control, and ease in which she sings is mesmerizing! She and her band put on a fantastic concert. I can't get enough of her!!

Brandi and her opening act were both amazing. The singing is out of this world amazing! The only thing we struggled with was the lighting. There were lights flashing from behind the artists out to the audience for most of Brandi's act and they were blinding. You couldn't even see her for a good part of the show because of the glare.

  • Brandi Carlile, Portland 10/22/09

by Arbar on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Seeing Brandi Carlile live was one of the most amazing concert experiences I've ever had. She and the band were great performers - very friendly and involved with the audience. The music was phenomenal, of course - most of the songs were from their new album, Give Up the Ghost, but they also played a few old favorites, including "Shadow On the Wall," "What Can I Say," and "The Story."

  • Brandi Carlile... Absolutly Incredible

by uag1mms on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I've never been so blown away. Brandi is the real deal. A voice as strong as that of an opra singer, skill on her gutiar and on the piano (and probably many more i do not know of). A personality that is able to captivate an audience between songs, and a heart that willingly pours out its secrets in lyrics. Her CD "Give up the Ghost" is wonderful and in person, the words like Amazing just loose their meaning. She played, 'unplugged, aucapella, just gutars, just piano, and with the whole band. It was a new experience of emotion with every song. The was the single best evening i've had in many many years. Thank you so much for coming to Portland!

This is the best show I've seen Brandi do in my most favorite venue. Drove all the way from Bend and would do it again in a heartbeat. She's a heartthrob too!!! Keep me on her concert list please.

  • Brandi Carlile A Very gifted performer

by pabroth on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

She was incredible. An amazing voice and range, excellent tonal qualities and this is after almost constant touring for the past three years. I still have lots of "happy, happy" hormones floating around my brain after this show. She is the total package, singer, songwriter arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist as well as congenial. She is the musicians musician. Love her!

  • Brandi and Gang are the bomb

by pearhippie on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Although I have been struggling with a sinus infection for a week, I came anyways because Brandi and her band are so awesome live. It was amazing to hear her voice, and all the band sound so full in the concert hall. Her unplugged version of "Dying Day" almost brought down the house, we were so captivated by hearing all the voices with no amplification so well in such a huge place. You can tell Brandi loves to play live, because after the band faked an exit and came back they played almost another hour long set. Anyone who has a pure love for music and wants to see a kick-ass band see Brandi Carlile, whose soulful lyrics and full voice are unmatched.

  • Brandi ROCKED Portland!!

by Foxford on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi Carlile has an amazing voice and she just keeps getting better. We saw the "Give up the Ghost" tour last night and are still in awe. Set was cool, sound was great. Brandi was impressed with the venue and actually sang one song without a mic, just to show how great the accoustics are in the Schnitz. Totally Awesome!!

  • Brandi Carlile was simply amazing...

by SBMT on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I have been to in a long time. Brandi's voice is amazing (so crystal clear) and I love how she shares the stories behind her songs. Makes the experience listening to her albums later even more special remembering what the songs are actually about....She was full of energy and danced around with no shoes. Just an amazing musical experience to be a part of...will see her again when I get a chance. Venue was big but Brandi made it feel like an intimate jam session. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

  • Brandi was amazing

by mcbertocchi on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

What a show, Brandi and her trio gave Portland one rockin show. She played for over two hours and took a lot of time to speak to the audience. It has been a joy to watch her grow over the past few years, she is quite the performer. Cannot wait to see her again in P-town!

  • Brandi Carlile Fantastic!!!!

by kgpapa on 10/23/09Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Brandi was sensational, along with her band did a variety of songs, new, old and even some Johnny Cash and Beatles "Let It Be". What was amazing to me in the a full house at the Schitzer she did a song with no mike or amplification. Brandi showed a wide range of vocal ability and instrumental talent that got the house rocking! Just one negative the spot lights into the crowd were so bright we all had to hold our hands up in front of our eyes or hide behind someone in front of us. This went on all through the concert. It was very!!!! anoying.

  • entertaining show! great music!!
