BRANDI CARLILE IN CONCERT:
Alt-country sweetheart Brandi Carlile has crowned Billboard's Top Folk Albums chart twice since her 2005 debut, and it's easy to see why as she performs her heart-rending tunes in concert. Carlile is a world-class belter, and the perfect way her voice cracks when she goes big makes visceral tunes like "The Story" and "The Eye" all the more powerful. Country and folk are squarely in her wheelhouse, but she also dabbles in styles as diverse as rock, R&B, and blues, making for a dynamic concert experience anchored by her elegant songwriting and emotive voice. Whether she's performing songs from 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter or making jaws drop with her soaring cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Carlile never fails to impress ticket buyers with her poise, gorgeous voice, and good-natured stage presence.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Brandi Carlile was born and raised in rural Washington state, where she began performing with her mother and brother at age eight. She taught herself to play guitar, and by her teens she was penning her own songs and singing backup for an Elvis impersonator. By her twenties she was performing in Seattle's music scene with her twin brothers, and in 2004 she signed with Columbia Records. Her self-titled 2005 debut topped Billboard's Folk Albums chart, introducing fans to her powerful voice and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. She teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for her 2007 sophomore album The Story, with stellar results -- the album peaked at No. 10 on the rock charts and scored a breakthrough hit with its title track. Since then Carlile has toured extensively and released four more acclaimed albums including 2011's Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and 2015's The Firewatcher's Daughter.

Kfog has had better concerts, but all the voices were strong, Old Holly Night was great, Brandi was a little to rockabilly for me.
A moving performance. Brandi Carlile must be seen live. A beautiful experience.
What a fabulous show! Am sorry that it wasn't sold out though. Lots of empty seats. Hope that they received enough toys. Looked pretty sparse in the lobby compared to the last 4 years or so we have been going. But the performers were amazing and we'll definitely be back next year. How can we help spread the word? We do bring friends each year!
worst KFOG event ever KFOG is really going downhill = simply out of touch?
I have wanted to see Brandi Carlile in concert for a loooong time now. I am so happy I was able to see her at this event (5th row seats too!). Listening to her amazingly powerful voice in a venue like the Paramount Theater was quite the experience! The entire lineup for this concert was excellent (Brandi, Mat Kearney and opening act Eoin Harrington). This was probably one of the best KFOG Concert for Kids shows that I have seen. Loved the unplugged performances of "Dying Day" and "Cannonball"!! Couldn't believe she could project her voice so well in an auditorium that size. And her energetic performance of Folsom Prison Blues had the audience up and dancing - fun, fun, fun!!! I'd definitely see her again.
I had the pleasure of listening to all three performers and they put on a great show. I really like when Brandi unplugged and used the Paramount's great acoustics to sing a couple of songs with no amplification.
Last night's performance by Brandi Carlile and her band at KFOG's Concert for Kids was one of the most powerful, uplifting musical experiences of my life. This young woman embodies the joy of performing and spontaneous warmth that I think most of us are looking for when we seek out live music - and the quality of what she produces is remarkable. You get the sense you're getting on near the ground floor of a career that's poised on the brink of true stardom. Of course, she may not want that, as she's all about giving her music and of herself, as her many charitable foundations attest. With a voice that can be pure country or blues or alternative or folk or rock (this has become a cliche' about her, but it's amazingly true), and songwriting skills that graft a simple, sincere poetry onto deep roots of musical invention, Brandi Carlile deserves to be heard by a much wider audience. Find her!
I thought the performers were amazing, but the crowd was kind of a dud. At other Brandi shows everyone is on their feet the entire time! I think if it were standing room only then everyone would have gotten into it a little more! Kfog was amazing and hanging with the the fans before and after was great! All in all, it was super fun! thanks kfog for helping to spread the Brandi love! PS thanks to the sweetest chicks who gave me their Brandi guitar pick after the show!!! Brandi fans are the best!
What a great concert. Really love how relaxed she seems!
I have seen Brandi twice now and just recently saw her at the Beacon Theater in NYC. She was fantastic. She keeps the audience entertained not only with her mesmerizing voice, but with a few funny anecdotes as well. They are all wonderful performers. The onlyl disappointment is when the concert is over.
Brandi was amazing! From starting the show with an upbeat song, to doing acoustic songs and making her voice carry through the venue, I was captivated for the entire show. She even stayed and did a few Johnny Cash numbers as an encore! It was a great show and I would see her again.
What a remarkable performance! Tim and Phil are always facinating. Josh is amazing! Allison was a wonderful addition and experience. And Brandi, well....what can we say? There are no words worthy enough for the beauty that flows from within her!
what a great show and great opener. I would recommend this concert to all!
I just caught onto Brandi 1 year ago and have been in love with her music ever since. I've missed the opportunity to see her in the NW, but made sure to see her this time around and she didn't disappoint. Her voice is just going to get better and better. Her show is very engaging. Loved every minute of it.
omg! truly the best concert of my life. brandi was on top of her game and i'm sure ALL the girls loved her performance!
I have been listening to Brandi for a couple years but this was my first opportunity to see her and the band live. They exceeded my expectations. I found out about the show a couple weeks before the show date and thusly mid Mezzanine was the best we could get for seats. Upon arriving at our seats I was admittedly disappointed. We were FAR from the stage. Once Brandi and the twins took the stage and started the show however, all feelings of disappointment were instantly forgotten. Brandi and her band gave us an amazing show. The show had many layers and a great pace to it. We were even treated to a totally unplugged performance of one of her songs. I mean NO AMPLIFICATION at all. As anyone knows who has ever been to "The Schnitz" it is a huge beautifully ornate theater with spectacular acoustics. Once the crowd quieted I could hear every word Brandi sang sitting three quarters of the way back and more than half way to the ceiling due to the height of the mezzanine. I was very impressed by this as it is not an easy thing to do, BRAVO! Three songs were then preformed in a raw acoustic mode with the band sitting close together near the front of the stage. It was a very nice and intimate way to experience the songs. It was like being there at the birth of those songs and getting to hear them naked. The show continued with full instrumentation and blew me away. To say they are as good live as the album would be a disservice to the live show. It was so vital and real. Brandi made me feel like she was aware of everyone of us and singing for us all. I felt included by her and important to her. She has many gifts. Her song writing is very strong, the twins are a gift from god and her music would not be the same without them and her voice has a life and a power all its own. Yet with all of this going for her I was struck that her personality is her greatest asset of all. She was bare foot the whole night and I think that serves as a perfect metaphor for what Brandi brought and offered to each one of us. It was real, it was beautiful and it was honest without pretense. Brandi welcomed Katie Herzig onto the stage to play a couple songs. It was a gracious and untimely rewarding for the audience. The many layers of instrumentation and vocal harmonies hearkened back to the era when shows like A Prairie Home Companion were common. It was a wonderful surprise. Brandi ended the show with a beautiful interpretation of Mad World. She played the piano and was accompanied by her cellist. It was a beautiful moment which left my mom in tears. I cannot emphasize enough what a pleasure it was seeing Brandi live. Please do yourself the same favor and see her whenever you can. Her CD's are extraordinary, each great and each better than its predecessor. I am thrilled to see what will come from these amazing musicians next. -again Bravo and Thank You! PS Brandi's Drummer is one crazy BadAss! Girl you rock!
I have been to 6 Brandi Carlile shows. She and the band are amazing live performers and are not to be missed. I really believe we are witnessing the evolution of an iconic musician, the likes of which have not been seen since Freddy Mercury, Elton John or Johhny Cash. That being said, the venue for this show sucked a bit of the warmth from the room that is typical of the Carlile shows I've attended. Soundwise the drum mics needed to be turned waaaay down . . . .it was just too much and sadly drowned out a lot of the piano and cello. Also, lights were blinding much of orchestra section D throughout so, that was a bummer. Still over all, I can't complain, I am a spoiled fan who is used to a beyond perfect show from Brandi and the Band every time and this one was still great.
I had never seen Brandi but my daughter is a big fan. I bought us tickets for her 27th birthday and we had a blast. Her whole show was fantastic.
Brandi Carlile rocked the house. She performed her heart out and the songs kept coming with the longest encore I’ve ever seen. She mixed it up. At one point they performed one of their new songs without microphones and with acoustic guitars. You could have heard a pin drop. She played old favorites and new songs in a flawless performance. Off her new album Give Up the Ghost which was the name of this tour she played a few songs among them Dreams, I will and That Year (about a friend who committed suicide when she and he were sixteen years old.). Once again, her heart- felt lyrics and her passionate vocals connect you with her as a human being. She was more outgoing than I had seen her previously, telling stories about the songs before she sang them, which made the songs that much more personal. Of course Tim and Phil on vocals and guitars were excellent, and Josh Neumann on cello was a great addition. Her drummer Allison Miller was incredible! Brandi Carlile gave her all to Portland and we appreciate it. It was evident by the warm enthusiastic response from the audience. We love you Brandi!
