  • A wonderful evening to remember

by Beth on 5/12/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Having just finished the book, I really enjoyed the subtle hints and references to the book throughout this ballet. It was fun, lively and entertaining. The opportunity to see different cultural influences was also very interesting.

  • Vibrant in colour and dance

by JanK on 5/5/25Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

We absolutely loved Alberta Ballet’s performance of Don Quixote! The costumes were beautiful and vibrant with colour. The technically challenging dancing was exquisitely performed. We felt that the stage was bursting to life with spring energy… just as is the natural world! Thank you so very much!

  • Amazing!

by Amber on 3/25/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Great performance. Could have done without the people behind us. I know etiquette is learned and it was apparent that these folks were never taught. Unfortunate but had a wonder time regardless

  • Wasn;t What I Expected

by Cat on 3/24/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I went to this ballet because of the online advertising. The dancers and characters were so good and I was looking to see them. When I got to the performance, none of those dancers were there, even though they were featured in the brochure. The lion was equally good as the featured performer, but the others were disappointing, especially Dorothy. The online woman was adorable and the dancer I saw had no personality. Things flowed along well in the ballet until we reached the porcelain section, which went on far longer than any other segment. It was confusing to me why that particular section was highlighted as it did not seem to move the story along. So, I'm being kind in giving 4 stars. The Corps de Ballet was excellent.

  • My daughter loved it - that is enough for me.

by Robin on 3/18/25Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Blending classical and contemporary dance with fresh costumes and score, this production, closer to the book, explores friendship and self-discovery with modern flair, captivating audiences of all ages.

  • Spectacular show!

by Maria on 2/25/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

As always, amazing ballet. Dance Theatre Of Harlem was exceptionally professional. There was no general plot between acts, but I enjoyed it a lot. The best for me was Act 2, really beautiful. 🔥

  • Disappointing

by Jaclyn on 2/25/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

I have watched many shows from the Alberta ballet such as Nutcracker and Swan Lake that were outstanding performances, however Harlem was a huge disappointment. There where no props or backdrops, costumes where limited and plain, and the cast was significantly smaller than past productions. This performance felt like a school recital compared to a professional ballet company. The choreography was not engaging and did not highlight the talent of the artist.

  • Wonderful Talent

by Janet on 2/25/25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the Dance of Harlem on Friday evening. It was so delightful to see all of the talent on stage, the wonderful performances, the unique choreography. I highly recommend this ballet group.

  • Best way to get in the holiday spirit

by Julia on 12/25/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

We went as 3 generations; grandmother, mother, daughter - and it was spectacular. The first act was really about telling the story, while act ll was more about featuring soloist performances. It was beautifully executed and we’ll hopefully be coming back for the experience year after year. Thank you Alberta Ballet!

  • A beautiful evening

  • The Nutcracker: Enjoyable and Entertaining

by Akelita on 12/18/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

We watched the Nutcracker last 12/15/2024, (1:00 pm show). We loved our seats this time—no tall persons or heads blocking our view. The backdrop/set and props were lovely and spectacular—including the Snow Tsarina’s sled. The corps de ballet was strong and in sync. Having a live orchestra made a big difference. Acting-wise, the Father (Caleb) stood out. Most of the costumes were great (especially the Snow Tsarina, Rat Tsar, mice and wolves)—Wished the Flowers and Christmas Rose’s costumes were more flower-like and colorful though. Wished they made use of the original/traditional Tea (Chinese Dance), Arabian Dance and Russian Dance themes/roles instead of replacing/depicting them as Sweets. The costumes did not match the sound/theme of the music so those 3 dances were lackluster and ho-hum (to put it mildly), when they are usually the stand-out in past Nutcracker productions I’ve watched as well as performed in and what we usually look forward to watching. As for the venue—I always wonder why food and drinks (especially liquor) are allowed inside Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. The area where I was seated was reeking with the smell of liquor (which was so distracting) and unfortunately, the family that sat beside me (a mother with her kid) made the overall viewing experience unpleasant—the mother was intermittently narrating the story or what was going on onstage to her kid in her loud voice and was munching on her mixed nuts loudly, her kid was placing her legs on my side of the seat and kicking me with her shoes on and was loudly singing in sync with the Sugarplum Fairy music whenever it came on (but she sang it with lyrics that seemed to come from a song learned at her school and her mom was not even shushing her) and WORST, they threw and left their food trash right there on the floor where they sat! I took a photo of their mess but too bad, this review does not allow photo upload. This unfortunate aspect made me rate my experience as 4 stars instead of 4. But overall, it was worth the watch.

  • Nutcracker,

by Cid on 12/17/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

We loved it but miss the traditional dolls in the 2nd act!! Bring them back please 🙏🏽. Beautiful though, looking forward to next year.

  • Outstanding!

by Sherry on 12/17/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was my third attendance at the Nutcracker in 35 years. They have all been memorable, but this one stands out as the best. The set design, costumes, interpretation and performance were spectacular!

  • Excellent

by Shar on 12/17/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

It was a well done production. The dancers were lovely and the sets were beautifully done adding the perfect touch of magic to the performance. We overall enjoyed the whole thing.

  • It was ok

by Scobeyrob on 12/16/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The story changed again this year. Less technical ballet than some years however still a great experience

  • Fantastic Performance

by T He on 12/16/24Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was a beautifully done performance that helped to lift the Spirit of the Christmas Season! We would highly recommend.

  • Ceiling was leaking on us

by Shannon on 12/10/24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

Ballet itself was good. But the auditorium starting where we sat something was leaking from the ceiling and dumped about 2 cups of liquid on me and my guest, and the people behind us. We left to clean up and it was about half way through the second act. No paper towels in the bathroom so I stood under the hand dryer to dry off. Missed that half of the play. Very disappointed.
