About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    Great Addition to Our Trip!

by TJ on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

My wife and I were doing a road-trip through much of Tennessee including Memphis. We noticed that Wicked was playing there in the Orpheum and decided it would really add to our experience there. And we were correct. A lovely old theater environment, wonderful people there to assist you and a great show! We were so impressed with the caliber of acting and overall performances by these talented folks. So glad we decided to do this!

    The show was amazing

by Fayette fan on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The show was amazing but the sound quality was lacking. We were in the balcony and missed some of the dialogue. For a first time seeing the show, I got the jist of what was going on but couldn’t hear everything.

    It was fabulous!

by Jeff A on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

This was a birthday present for my 23 year old daughter who really likes Wicked. I was not familiar with it. The songs are catchy, but the staging, lighting and choreography were just great. It was a great night. I have bad hearing, but the sound was clear - I could hear all the principals well.

    Not For Me

by JP on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The production was really good, but this play was just not one of my favorites. I would recommend the play to others as others really enjoyed it.

by Holly on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

We had another wonderful experience at The Orpheum in Memphis! I have seen Wicked numerous times and it never fails to amaze me. I always catch something different than I had seen the time before. This was my husband's first time to see the production and he was blown away. Thank you for providing such an awesome time for the both of us!

    Great show!

by Wicked fan on 4/10/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The show was fantastic!! There were too few bathrooms making intermission too short for everyone(especially ladies) to use the restroom and get back before the second act began.

From the costumes, the set, the singing, dancing and great story. Wicked is one of the best and this cast continues the wonderful wicked legacy. I saw it twice this weekend and can’t wait to go back.

    Wicked Review

by AJ on 4/9/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

This is a great play. Absolutely amazing. They set , the costumes, singing, dancing. Everything was fabulous. If it weren't so expensive I would go see it again. And clean, not one bad/cuss word or taking God/Jesus' name in vain. Thank you for that. It shows we don't have to have bad/cuss words or taking God/Jesus' name in vain for the story to be good. It was great. Those voices of the two main characters are out of this world. I am so glad I went.

    Wicked Smart!

by Dianna on 4/9/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

The theater (Orpheum in Memphis) was opulent and charming! Grand staircase in lobby. Beautiful draperies and wall coverings! It was like stepping back in time! We were on the back row of the mezzanine and had fantastic view of the stage. From the time the curtain was raised I was enraptured with the play. This was my second time seeing it and while apparently the old theater did not have the capacity for Elphaba to "fly"- the raised platform was a reasonable facsimile. The actors and actresses were well-prepared and quite proficient in their performance. All in all, an excellent afternoon at the theatre!

    Wicked is amazing

by Jay on 4/9/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Overall the performance was amazing and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. My only issue had to do with the sound, and it may have been due to the seats, or possibly the music was a little too loud because it was difficult to understand the words at times. I was near a back wall, so it may have been due to the sound bouncing off of the wall. If I ever get the opportunity to do this again, a different seat choice will be something I will look at.

    Great show!

by Deborah on 4/9/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

My 12 year old saw this for the first time and loved it but neither one of us could understand the singing. I’m not sure if it was where we sat. We were on the balcony in a box seat and the view was great but it was very hard to understand the ensemble and sometimes even the solo performances. The volume wasn’t very high and it was quite mumbled. The performers sounded great and the costumes and stage were very cool.

    So much fun!

by DeltaMom79 on 4/9/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

This is my 3rd time to see Wicked and it did not disappoint! The staff at the Orpheum did a great job running concessions and bathrooms efficiently and directing people to their seats. Someone thought it was a great idea to bring an infant to the show, but they left after a minute of the kid crying.
