About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    No one mourns the Wicked

by OmgAlpaca on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

But I'm going to mourn the end of this! I absolutely loved it, and my SO who isn't into musicals loved it as well! Not only was the venue pretty, but the musical was amazing. I was very impressed despite knowing the original cast. Elphaba was by far my favorite, both as a character and as a singer.

by VRSchmidt on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I love Wicked. This is my second time seeing this show. I loved it the first time and still find it amazing. The vocals were outstanding. I would see it over and over and not get tired of it.

Wicked was phenomenal, drink lines long

by Anonymous on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Awesome show, talent and stage setting. We took our soon to be 13 daughter for early birthday present. Show and singing were mesmerizing, but word of caution...if you want to order a beverage before or during intermission - the lines were ridiculously long (15min wait), so allow time and order in advance of intermission.

Love this show! Great touring company. Sound balance was a bit off but did not detract from my enjoyment.

Gave me chills start to finish

by Anonymous on 9/8/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Sometimes a touring show can seem, well…. tired. That the actors are a little sick of doing the show. But this company seemed to be having a blast and giving it their all. It was a pleasure. I only wish that they did not allow food into the theater. We were really annoyed by folks eating popcorn in crunchy bags that they bought at the venue.

    "Wicked"-ly AMAZING!

by Mocha84 on 9/7/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I've now seen Wicked 3 times! I think this one was amazing!! It is hard to be the SF version but the girl who played Glinda was phenomenal!!! Such a talented cast and crew!!! I think the only part I didn't love was that the theater people rushed us out at the end when we were trying to buy merchandise. They kept asking my sister to move until finally she was practically being escorted out while she was still waiting for us to finish our sale. Other than that, AMAZING show!

    Better than expected

by UthieRay on 9/7/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I had seen Wicked with the original cast and I loved it. Looked forward to the touring Wicked, but didn't expect the voices or overall production to be as good. However, I think I enjoyed this show just as much, if not more. The actors/singers were all excellent, especially Elphaba (Emma Hunton) and Glinda (Chandra Lee Schwartz) -- so powerful, as they should be. Songs were wonderful and moving. Got the cheaper seats but it didn't effect my experience. In fact, I don't like spending so much money on theatre tickets, so maybe I'm appreciating the value. The stage did appear smaller than I remember the first Wicked, but it may be that I was sitting further from the stage. Overall, a really great show and would highly recommend.

    Wicked was a fantastic show.

by Lorelai44 on 9/7/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

I had been waiting for Wicked to come to San Jose for quite some time. I was not disappointed. The actors were superb, set design magnificent, and costumes deserve great praise. The best thing was the performer who portrayed Elphaba. She was the best thing in the show from the moment she stepped on the stage to her parting scene I was hooked. Her vocal range is terrific and acting ability top-notch. I look forward to seeing her name listed as a lead in a Broadway show and hearing her name as a nominee for a Tony. I strongly believe she is that talented. If you haven't seen the show yet, you need to get your ticket and go right now.

I've seen Wicked three times in San Francisco and enjoyed this fourth performance as well. What I loved the most was the enthusiasm of the audience, all ages.

    Excellent!

by csbrn on 9/7/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

What a wonderful production and cast. We enjoyed every minute. I took my daughters to see this for the older one's 16th birthday. What a great birthday. The kids loved it probably more than I did; which is difficult. The subtle humor and not so subtle humor was great. I can't think of anything negative to say about this show.

    Wonderful production of Wicked

by BrenJR on 9/7/14San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

All of the acting was wonderful, I don't remember laughing as much last time I saw this. The production and scenes were very well done. Only having to drive to San Jose was a plus, too.
