About

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

  • Fantastic

by Matt on 2/10/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

The play was fantastic and actors superb! The acoustics were just okay with the music often over overpowering the singing (and we were close Orch Row H). The Philanthropic "ask"at the end was a bit much and took too long ( recommend not sitting back down as directed --- just leave before it starts). Worst of all was exiting the theater. The Civic theater ushers and guards refused to allow any exit to First St. side doors or the west side doors. The excuse given was there was something going on outside (which we found out was a lie). Therefore, the only way out for the entire theater (3000 people) was out the front doors !!! It was a real cluster -____ and people ( including us) were very pissed off. Extraordinarily bad exiting plan (;-(

  • Phenomenal

We loved this performance. We had seen Wicked many years ago but this production was far superior. The 2 leads were indeed popular and defied gravity. Their relationship/chemistry, was palpable and believable. The entire cast was in sync, played off each other, crisp dancing with glorious costuming and set. A wonderful afternoon at the theatre.

  • Good experience

by Lo on 2/9/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

We had a good experience at this theatre. Get there early for parking though!!!!! I wish we had allowed more than 30 minutes for this. The sound system when the singers would sing could’ve been a little better. We were sitting in the 4th row. Maybe the speakers projected better for people further back? Overall, great show. We had a lot of fun.

The whole family loved it! Civic Theater is a landmark for San Diego, so it was cool to share that with the kids, but the sounds isn’t awesome in there. Even so, AMAZING show.

  • Excellent but Missing Faces

by Theater Fan on 2/8/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I have waited years to see this show and it didn't disappoint. The costumes, the sets, the voices, all were amazing along with a fantastic story line. One area I would improve was placing the actors faces somewhere. Our seats weren't superb but they also weren't terrible. I wanted to see the actors faces up close and there was no way to find them. Screens would have been idea, but that may be asking for too much. Maybe in the Playbill? If nothing else, they could have been in the lobby/guest areas as I looked (but maybe I missed them). They did a phenomenal job and have impressive backgrounds. I just would have loved to have got a look at their faces. Besides that, the venue nailed the experience and Wicked will never be forgotten!

  • Amazing!

by Jenn on 2/5/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Having experienced Wicked for the second time, the musical's magic remains undiminished. This reimagining of The Wizard of Oz story through the lens of the witches of Oz continues to enchant with its technical brilliance and emotional depth. The production values are outstanding. The sets transform Oz into a steampunk fantasy world, with the mechanical dragon looming over the proscenium arch setting the tone for the show's darker elements. The costumes, particularly in the Emerald City sequences, create a cohesive visual feast that enhances the storytelling. The sound design deserves particular praise, perfectly balancing the orchestra with vocals and ensuring Stephen Schwartz's complex score reaches every corner of the theater. The lighting design works in harmony with the effects to create memorable moments, especially during Elphaba's transformation in "Defying Gravity." What makes Wicked particularly remarkable is its ability to maintain its impact across multiple viewings. The layered storytelling reveals new nuances each time, from political undertones to the complex exploration of friendship and morality.

  • FABULOUS MUSICAL

I’ve watched this musical several times, and it has never failed to impress. Regardless of who is performing, the cast consistently delivers outstanding performances. It was an absolute joy to witness this musical on their closing night in Los Angeles. If you haven’t seen Wicked yet, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great music and a captivating storyline!

  • Good enough

by Glinda with a Ga on 2/2/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Wicked is a fantastic show I’ve seen many times through the years. It’s so well constructed that it’s almost fail proof. That said, it seems like every tour, there is less direction and attention to detail as there once was. Both leads are good enough, though pale in comparison to the Elphaba and Glindas of yesterday. It’s still a lot of fun and absolutely worth seeing but the show is beginning to feel like a copy of a copy of a copy. You wish they’d get a director back in instead of probably a musical director or stage manager putting in the new cast members. Acting was just okay, singing was the same. But, it’s Wicked and it’s always going to be an entertaining experience.

My bff & I loved every minute of it! Such a great performance. We were so excited to finally see it after the performance we originally had tickets to had been canceled only 2 hours prior to showtime. So glad we didn't miss it altogether!

  • Really good

by Catster on 1/30/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the play and all the actors were great especially Elphaba however we went to see Wicked the first time it was at the Pantages and we thought it was moore scary and better than this version as Elphaba was the "wicked witch"and if I remember correctly Glenda & Elphaba were sister's but overall we did enjoy it
