About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

Great show but sound needs tweaking

    by Eofraleigh on 8/27/23

Loved the show, but had hard time hearing the words during song routines, which is most of the show. Only the 2nd performance so don't think they have worked out sound levels between mike's and orchestra! Speaking was clear and most single singers OK till music swelled, then words became muddy. Group numbers were worse. Have been to other shows there and not had a problem before, so hopefully they will get this worked out.

Great musical but difficult on acoustics

    by Jan S on 8/27/23

We enjoyed this musical very much. The singers were wonderful, and the lead players were great. I loved the set scenery our main problem was the acoustics. It was difficult to understand the words due to clarity, not volume. The volume was find but my friends and even strangers setting next to us had trouble understanding the words especially during the group songs. I was able to follow the play by figuring out what was happening but not through the words.

    Not the best I’ve seen.

    by DPAC Patron on 8/27/23

I’ve seen Wicked at the DPAC four times with three different casts, and this cast was disappointing. The actresses who played Glinda and Elphaba gave wooden and passionless performances. They need to learn when it’s time to “go big” with their tone and movements, and they need to learn when it’s time to pause. They missed out on so many laughs because they rushed through it. On the other hand, the music - the conductor and the orchestra - well, they were brilliant. The music alone made the ticket price worth it. The conductor had more personality in his little finger than anyone on stage. He was awesome.

I was so thrilled that I am finally able to provide my girls with experiences like this that will last them a lifetime. Wicked was absolutely amazing and the fulfillment of a "bucket list"item. Thank you so much to the amazing cast and crew and a special thank you to DPAC for bringing this show to us.

    Wicked!

    by J. L. on 8/14/23

So so good. It tied together the story of the wizard of oz perfectly. Even though the movie came out in 1939 it feels like it wasn’t that long ago with the way the music answers all the questions. Singing was great and cast was full of life! 10/10!

    Great show!

    by AM Casanave on 7/5/23

The production was great! I don't think there is a bad seat. The play was as good as anything I have seen in 50+ years loving theater. I have 1 criticism: You have too little bathroom space (especially ladies) for the length of intermission. A longer intermission would get more people back into their seats, and sell a few more refreshments. Everybody wins!

    Beyond Wonderful

    by mamabear on 7/5/23

I will never see Oz the same way again. It was an engaging alternate view of the characters and an ending with such hope. The overall message is so very relevant to today. The songs were perfect and energetic to move the story along so you did not even notice that Act 1 was over 2 hours long. The actors could have been the Broadway Troop as they were spot on and the voices raised in song were exceptional. Costumes, orchestra, special effects, etc were top notch. It was a total delight for the packed house and the standing ovation was well earned. I wish I could give it 6 stars. We will be going to more productions.
