About

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

  • Great Experience!

by Dude on 3/5/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing set, special effects (especially in Defying Gravity), actors, costumes, vocals in general. Lead actress voice was a bit thin but convincing. It was a bit difficult staying awake in the beginning because we had just seen the movie. Glinda was funny and loved the variety of expression.

Wicked as a show is just incredible, the music is so emotional and catchy, and the writing is so funny. This cast did an incredible job vocally and acting in general. We had a great time and will definitely go again when it is back on Broadway. Highly recommend!

I saw Wicked in the early 2000s and again in late 2000s, so was going to pass this time but towards the end of the rum decided to go and really glad I did! Every bit as entertaining as it was the two previous times. Bravo to the cast and crew for another enjoyable performance!!!!

This was my first time seeing Wicked Live and I am so glad that I did. I absolutely loved it. The venue was nice and comfortable (even for bigger body humans). The show was fantastic and there was just something about seeing it live after seeing it in the theater. 💯 recommend!

I took my daughter and granddaughter and it was my granddaughter’s first broadway show. The cast and their performance was fantastic and well worth our 2 hour drive! My granddaughter said, “Best night ever!!!”

  • Poor acoustic

by SDMom on 3/4/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

It was difficult to hear the two main characters. I’m not sure if it was the sound system, the space itself or just the tone of their voice.

  • Broadway Quality in San Diego

by Opportunity on 3/3/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Wicked on Broadway in 2005 with most of the original cast and this performance was very comparable and I didn't have to fly to New York. The costumes, sets and cast made for a very enjoyable evening, especially the vocals of Carly Augenstein's Elphaba.

  • Mostly good 👍

by AllyD on 3/1/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I saw Wicked twice at the Pantages in LA over 10 years ago. I was excited to see it come to San Diego so we bought tickets. The theater itself (Civic Theater) is in need of a serious upgrade. The seats were so uncomfortable and the sound was just ok. That affected our experience negatively. Getting to the actual play. We were a tad underwhelmed with our Glinda’s performance to be honest. Our Elphaba was good but seemed a bit reserved. I am glad we went because we were very overdue to see a live musical, but it wasn’t worth the $400+ we spent. Definitely will not go back to the theater again, until it’s been renovated.

by Oceancrawford on 2/28/25San Diego Civic Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

A wonderful show, main singers just going for it, and hearing the strength of their voices was incredible. Appreciate how the staff tried to control the audience in regards to singing along. Need more of that, and reminding people to turn off their stupid phones. Thanks.
