About

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

  • ‘Wickedly’ Wonderful

by CarryllSC on 4/1/25ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 7th time seeing Wicked and this production was outstanding. The actors who played Elphaba and Glinda were top notch, with amazing chemistry and acting….and their voices!!! Just wow! I was privileged to have seen the original Broadway production with Idina and Kristin and this was as good! Thanks Gammage for continuing to bring back this show. Now if you’d only have Phantom back!

  • Great Experience

My experience from start to finish was great. It was easy to purchase tickets and parking. Getting there: Entering the parking garage was easy and streamlined (get there an hour early as recommended). The walk from the Apache Garage to Gammage was short and sweet. I appreciate that they had staff directly outside the garage checking to see if you had anything that might get you turned away at the door. Getting in: Getting through security was easy. The staff was great with helping you navigate to your appropriate door. We had wine and a brownie while we waiting. it was about $45 for 2 wines, 2 brownies, and 2 bottled drinks. Getting to our seats was pretty easy as well, having all of the seats as odd or even kind of through us off but wasn't a big deal. The show: Phenomenal, we saw Wicked. I will say there was a bit of an imbalance between the orchestra and the cast. The orchestra was louder than the cast at times which made it hard to hear the lyrics, especially if you are not already familiar with the show/songs.

  • It was Wicked indeed

Went to see “Wicked” with my girlfriend on March 23 at ASU Gammage. The whole experience was amazing. Got right into parking and got a great spot, took no time to get inside to our seats. We were on Tier 1 and there was no line to get drinks, service was great. The play was incredible. The sets and the way they were brought in and out throughout the play was amazing. We could see everything from where we were seated. Loved the performance and the band was wonderful. Definitely going to attend another event there.

  • There’s a lot that could be changed to make it better

by Anonymous on 3/30/25ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 2 out of 5

Hey! I was so excited to see Wicked for the first time. This show, however, was lacking in a lot of areas. (1) The sound engineer needs to adjust the levels. I was in the second row and could barely make out what the cast was saying or singing. The sound guy made the orchestra levels really loud so that it was difficult to hear the singers over the orchestra. They had the speakers blasting and orchestra and the singers turned down. (2) The dancers need to practice pointing their toes. There were many cast members who danced without pointing their toes. I’m a former dancer and this looked sloppy and like this was a junior high version of the Broadway musical. The dancers who have less experience need to be diligent about getting more training so that their dancing looks cleaner on the stage. It was distracting their bad technique. (3) Many of the lead cast members could have been staged better to make their impact in the show better. For example, when the goat was taken away in the first act, if he were staged up close to the front, it would have made a bigger impact. Also the lead characters could have had more stage presence and taken up the stage more. I would say the only cast members that truly seemed to know what she was doing was the Wicked Witch of the West/Elphaba. (4) The best part of the show was the audience. Everyone was dressed up and the crowd went wild when it started. You could hear the roar of enthusiasm and excitement. That part was awesome. (5) I’ve been to a lot of NYC Broadway musicals and I wish I had seen it there. This particular show was poorly executed. I think if the sound person adjusted the sound levels, it would immediately make the show a lot better. This show seemed quite amateur. And I’m bummed I paid top dollar for a show that was mediocre. I would say, save your money for a different cast and stage crew.

This show is fantastic, as always. There is nothing better. The performers are spectacularly talented, the music is perfect, and the energy of the crowd is amazing. Every time I’ve seen it, it is 100% perfect.

  • A true Broadway caliber show

by Robert on 3/26/25ASU Gammage - TempeRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the 1PM show on 3/23/2025 with the stand in for Elpheba and one of the three Glinda’s. Having seen the show when it first came out with Idina Menzel and Christine Chenowith, I thought that the performances of both actors would have made the originals proud. Oftentimes these touring Broadway shows are not at the same acting/setting as the New York shows, but imho, this was.
