Great time. It's such a fun event and kudos to all the volunteers!
Being part of the Toronto International Film Festival audience feels like being part of a community from the get-go. I love the inside jokes that happen before and during the screenings, plus the volunteer appreciation is front and center (as it should be - the volunteers were extremely helpful and patient with all the people who had tickets and who stood in the rush lines). I was also wowed by TIFF's customer service. I missed an event due to a confusion over which line to stand in at the event, and TIFF refunded the cost of my ticket immediately when I requested it. This year, things were a little different due to the strike (meaning fewer celebrities and smaller crowds). But if this festival was THIS FUN during a quieter, smaller scale year, I want to come back when it's pulling out all the stops! Thanks TIFF! P.S. Support the workers and pay them what they're worth, streamers and Hollywood powers that be!!!
The Toronto Film Festival is always wonderful. Toronto is a wonderful city-clean, safe, friendly and great restaurants. This year was strange with the SAG strike and few actors able to attend. However, directors were there and engaged with the audience in Q&A after the film. We saw a number of wonderful films that we have recommended to friends and family when the hit theatres.
After dreaming of the remote possibility of attending the Toronto Film Festival for literally years, FINALLY 2023 was going to be it! We plotted and planned for almost a year ahead of time ... we'd thought of e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g: optimal driving routes and times; best hotel location for being close enough to walk, but far enough away from the general fray; a sprinkling of restaurant reservations, so not every meal need be on the fly; Museum Tickets for the one day we had a huge hole in the day's agenda between a very early and a very late movie; and, a wide range of outfits to accommodate both the changing weather and the varied venues, so what could possibly go wrong? Well - I'll tell you what. A few little things called the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes, that's what. Would all our machinations be for naught? Nay, I say - the festival still took place and being newbies we didn't really have any preconceived notions or expectations anyway. The first day of Ticketmaster Pre-Sales was a rollercoaster of frustration, as I think the guidance could have been much clearer about limited ticket releases, blackouts, second chances and ultimately the resale market, etc., but unbelievably it all came together. Two movies on each of the first four days and one on our last - a mixture of mainstream and independent releases, almost all offerings had pre and/or post screening presentations with the Director and even a select few had some of the performers. It was so much more than we could have imagined - The Volunteers were ample and absolutely topnotch. The ticket lines were organized, reliable and efficient. The theatres were all beautiful, amazing facilities with appropriate food and beverage choices and comfortable seating. And the films ... what it is all about ... there is nothing in this world to match that excited feeling when the lights go down and the screen lights up. True Magic. Highly recommend TIFF - can't wait to go back again next year and the next and the next. LOVED IT!
The film was amazing, I really enjoyed it. We got to meet the director of the film at the end which was unexpected.
TIFF nurtures the soul and spirit of community and gives hope for the future of film. Nothing better than being surrounded by 1200 film lovers sharing new experiences and honouring the creators who honour the stories of peoples’ lives. Thank you TIFF and everyone involved.
TIFF is an amazing experience for anyone who has a passion for film. Even with this year's SAG-AFTRA strike, the festival still offered incredible world premieres and attracted celebrities who either directed or produced projects on the screen. I have attended TIFF twice and, for a film lover, it is a destination you have to experience.
Great flick, great theatre and great atmosphere. Would go again next year!
The crowds were overwhelmingly! The way the traffic coming out of the theaters was controlled left me very anxious. Happily there were guest for talk backs for each movie, despite the strikes. Good job there. I won’t attend this n a weekend again.
A prodigious achievement! A triumph accomplished by a cast of non-professionals. Perhaps all films should be cast with ordinary folk.
ENJOYED TIFF AND ALL OF IT'S EXCITEMENT THAT GOES WITH IT. I WAS IN THE LAST GROUP FOR BUYING TICKETS. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO BE IN. ALMOST EVERYTHING SOLD OUT. HAD TO TAKE ALTERNATIVE CHOICES. VERY DISAPPOINTING TO ME. COSTS ARE GETTING OUT OF HAND. DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE FROM OUT OF TOWN WHO NEED LODGINGS AND MEALS. I WILL STILL TRY TO ATTEND IN THE FUTURE, BUT I WISH THERE WAS A FAIRER WAY FOR BUYING TICKETS.
Accommodating, convenience, and easy access. I really like the notifications sent to my phone before the movies. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The opening weekend was fabulous. Very well organized and easy to navigate. Every volunteer was helpful, courteous and patient. Truly loved seeing Nickelback after the movie chatting and loved that they played a free concert. Having Virgo Mortenson and the cast and directors on stage before The Dead Don’t Hurt was another wonderful bonus. We really loved Finestkind and were happy with how the general admission seating was handled. Very smooth.
The film was good, sears were very right and uncomfortable.
Impressive how almost every detail is taken care of - I’ve been going for almost 20 years - but know that first time bowers can easily see and do everything on your list. TIFF & Ticketmaster make it simple!
Very well organized and exciting to attend. Great event in a great city.
This is the first year since the pandemic where TIFF feels like it's back to its old self - even without the actors, who are on still on strike. The film selection was phenomenal, as evidenced by how many were completely sold out even in presale days, compared to the last two years. Personal favorites were the two films His Three Daughters and Gonzo Girl. Can't wait to see if next year tops it!
I enjoyed the screenings, Q&A, and networking was absolutely the best. Creative people together celebrate the joy of making movies and cheering each other. The organization was fantastic and welcoming. Princes of whales theater is a wonderful venue as well as TIFF Bell Lightbox. Can't wait for next year 2023.
The process for buying tickets was needlessly cumbersome and frustrating. After all these years, it really can't be that difficult
This year at TIFF was a low point in terms of using the ticketing system. It was nearly impossible to redeem and make exchanges through the system. I always had to call the TIFF box almost every time. In previous years l can recall how easy it was to navigate and use the ticketing system. The system definitely needs improvement especially for online ticket exchanges as this was a big headache and problem for me this year.
