  • Lots of fun

by Bob on 9/17/24TIFF Lightbox Cinema 3 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I saw 21, mostly foreign (non-english) films since they are not shown at my local movie theaters. None were great but all were fascinating (except for April which was weird). My main complaint is that too often several of these films are shown at the same time so it is difficult to schedule the films I want to see. Although I was not able to get tickets for all the films I wanted on the initial day, tickets did become available later on so I ended up getting tickets for all the films I wanted. The ticketing process was difficult because each ticket had to be charged separately so that visa fraud services locked my card after several purchases and told me they could only unlock one at a time which took a phone call for each movie and made me miss some of the tickets I wanted to purchase. I ended up have to use a different charge card. I thought the organization of the viewings went very smoothly and appreciate all the volunteers who made that work. My favorite films were Mistress Dispeller, Youth (Hard Times) and Ka Whawhai Tonu. I also appreciated the gentle way that the demonstration at the showing of Bliss was handled. All in all it was a fabulous week and I look forward to next year.

  • 2024 Tiff downfalls

by ess on 9/17/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 8 - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I went to the second half of the festival this year and was disappointed by the lack of film choices. A lot of the really great “must see“ movies weren’t shown after the 10th and the festival went through the 15th. Also, and this is a big one, the guests in attendance this year were rude. A lot of people around me were talking, whispering, eating all kinds of food during the movie and even using their phones. This festival is a highlight of my year; I travel from the United States to Canada to see it and I pay good money for a hotel, travel, and the ticket prices. I’m there to see the movie and listen to the director and actors after their films when they presented. But so many people were actually, not even paying attention to the movie and it was extremely distracting.

  • 2 years after the reform of TIFF

    - Need to cut down ticket price - Need to empower Search function to search the lineup list with Languages, Countries, Directors... and so on

  • Extrem

by Kalle on 9/17/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 3 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

"The selection of films at TIFF has been more extreme than in the past 19 years. Various societal organizations have intervened in the film selection process. The films are now more accessible.""The ideological bias in the film selection was very noticeable. I watched 15 films. It was good that there were chairs for the elderly to sit while waiting, and the seat marking system worked well. However, artificially long lines were created, which were not as pleasant to stand in as in previous years. Sometimes, it was possible to enter the cinema without standing in line, as seats were already marked on the ticket. The ticket price was reasonable, but if prices continue to rise, I will stop attending the festival. I didn’t like that some films were only for industry professionals. After all, TIFF is the world’s largest public festival. On the positive side, streetcars ran late at night. I would also appreciate if the streaming option was maintained—I’d be willing to pay extra for that."

I really enjoyed this year TIFF as it seemed very well organized with lots of amazing volunteers which made the event smooth and easy. I can't wait for 2025 TIFF

  • TIFF ticket buying experience

by Anne on 9/16/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 1 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The festival was great with many wonderful films and a fun ‘ buzzy’ atmosphere in the theatre district. Buying tickets online ( for non- members) was a very frustrating experience! The TIFF website would show available seats but by the time you got to the ticket master pay stage the seats were gone … or in other cases the TIFF site would show no availability but the Ticketmaster site would show lots of empty seats… it took hours to coordinate with a few friends to sit together, so I gave up even trying to buy tickets after booking just one set . The remaining movies I saw were as guest of members.

  • Superboys of Malegaon - World Premeir

by NA on 9/16/24Roy Thomson Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Watched the world premeir of Superboys of Malegaon. It was an incredible experience watching start on the red carpet to the movie experience in Roy Thompson and the Q and A afterwards.

  • Great to be a part of TIFF

by Ray on 9/16/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 1 - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed seeing a variety of films 6 in all. Some exceptional, a couple just ok, but that is part of any festival when you are amongst the first to see a new film.'Emilia Perez ' and Riff Raff ' stood out as excellent films. As a TIFF member I was also offered a few free films . two of which I opted on. 'The End ' and "Will and Harper ' . The second film being outstanding with cast and crew in attendance. That was a great feature of being a member. I enjoyed the energy and shared experience of watching these new films !

  • Love TIFF, hate Surge Pricing!

by Film Aficionado on 9/16/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 1 - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have been attending TIFF for over 30 years. It is the most wonderful film festival. Ticketmaster's app works well BUT, your insistence on surge pricing is revolting. Euphemistically referred to as "dynamic pricing", the only thing dynamic is more money in ticketmaster's pocket and less in audiences. It is completely unnecessary, continues the trend of corporate greed and monopolies oh-so-common in today's world, driving inflation. Ticketmaster is price-gouging and have become their own scalpers (which is illegal). Governments must get some spine and regulate and festivals, no matter how desperate for cash, must resist these orgs and bring them to heel.

  • Membership penalized with assigned worst seats

    by Pre-sale = worst seats on 9/16/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 11 - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Yet another year of navigating the terrible ticketing system, only to end up in the last row for almost all screenings - why would I keep my membership when the pre-sale doesn't allow for any exchanges or seat selection, and for a number of films I did buy, TIFF/ticketmaster were releasing blocks of seats later, and my favourite, giving away seats to the same screenings I had paid for during the pre-sale. If we could go back to the system of years past which had a range of bundles (daytime, back-half, etc) and either seat selection or first come first served screenings. I met a lot of other disgruntled members in the back rows, and TIFF really seems determined to focus on industry screenings to the detriment of members and the broader public - and ultimately not serving the films with the nightmare ticket gauntlet and empty seats they ultimately give away

  • Amazing event!

by Karen on 9/16/24Visa Screening Room at Princess of Wales Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent event. A bounty of carefully curated outstanding films. Wonderful theater venues in the fantastic city of Toronto. In between films, great to explore interesting multi-cultural and artistic neighborhoods and restuarants.

  • Great Experience

Thanks for holding this wonderful annual event. Great to see all the stars attending this year.

  • Don't Like the new Reserved Seat Scheme

by Jamie on 9/15/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 3 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Ended up sitting in the very front row. AA. 2 different people I talked to were surprised, as well as myself.

  • Princess of Wales Theatre - Film Premiere

by Star Gazer on 9/15/24Roy Thomson Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Princess of Wales was the best premiere venue that I had attended for this Film Festival, except at the lobby no section where you can get picture like in Roy Thompson Hall. Royal Alexandra is a good place to again no place to get a picture. Maybe next year you can consider this as a suggestion. Overall staff and volunteers were very helpful and friendly. Thank you.

  • Almost perfect

by Mariposa on 9/15/24Scotiabank Theatre Cinema 1 - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I have been attending TIFF for over 40 years. Without exception every year has been memorable. With only a few exceptions, the selection of films, the venues and Q&As have been excellent. I appreciate the assigned seating, although I missed the 'standing in line' chatter. The concentration of theatres makes travel from one venue to another much easier. The films we saw this year were great. The only issue...and it is a big one was Ticketmaster and the complicated process of purchasing tickets, i.e., unable to buy a bundle. The other issue were the number of films 'off sale'. It was frustrating enough that we considered not attending at all! It was only when we decided to try one more time. So TIFF keep up the excellent work but find another platform for tickets.

  • Excellent educational work

by Albert on 9/15/24TIFF Lightbox Cinema 2 - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a great movie. Very educational for me to see struggles and wins from time to time of Harper. What a brave woman. Will Ferrell is great support and a great friend.

  • An experience you'll love!

by SL1401 on 9/15/24Visa Screening Room at Princess of Wales Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Every year, I look forward to TIFF. It brings so much energy, excitement and glamour to Toronto! Films are great, catching a glimpse of an A-list star is even greater! The Visa Screening Room experience is fabulous if you're a Visa Infinite card holder because there's free popcorn and drinks. But volunteers need better training because at two of three screenings I attended, only one volunteer reminded me that I could enter the Visa pre-screening reception. Another time, a volunteer was not going to let me into the theatre until I showed her my Visa credit card (I was not trying to get into the reception; just into the theatre to see the film). Everything turned out okay and I'd highly recommend attending TIFF if you've never gone before.
